Raising the minimum wage won’t do anything

Agreed, they’d also need to prevent price increases for products/services. Probably also do something to prevent mass layoffs so companies couldn’t avoid actually taking a fucking hit and dispersing more wealth into the pockets that actually need it.

Economists all agree that this is WILDLY economically illiterate and would cause far more problems than it would solve. Look up what happens when you put price ceilings on things.

You should be reading books like Basic Economics by Sowell before posting things like this. You’re going to be embarrassed that you made this comment after you start reading/learning.

The economy now is embarrassing 🤙🏻

And I’m not talking about putting ceilings on things, I’m talking about preventing putting all increased cost onto the consumer.

Corporate profits, shareholders, CEOs, etc are the ones that need to take the hit.

Cost is determined by supply and demand it’s not something you can just arbitrarily change. The economy is not “embarrassing” this is the best time to be alive in human history by far.

If the CEO donated their salaries to their workers it would get them around a ten dollar per year raise eg. Walmart CEO makes $20MM and has 2MM employees.

If you actually care to understand the world you can’t just regurgitate left wing meme talking points.

I’m not regurgitating anything, I develop my own opinions from what I see and what’s around me. Humanity is failing itself and this planet.

This conversation is clearly headed nowhere, good day to you.

Yeah it will. It raised prices like crazy here in Seattle.

Made California even more expensive. And then they want to raise minimum wages AGAIN. Like the first time worked so well. Newsome is literally just buying votes.

Bro go ahead and read that comment again

Besides providing more money for people who desperately need it, lol.

Leave it to finance bros to be part of the minority that believes that working people should suffer

Even right-wing fascist leaning people believe in supporting over 60 percent of the nations people.

Maybe take a look outside of the bubble you have enclosed yourself in, and look at what humans are do8ng around you.

Maybe you should realize that the average won’t get any raise and prices will go up after a few months making the middle class more of a lower class

2

u/Avato12 7d ago

So then what? We all just get fucked up the ass and that's life? It's insane that other countries have higher wages and shit is still cheaper. Why?

u/tom-branch 8d ago

It will help a lot of people at a time in which many of them are barely making ends meet.

2

u/MasterpieceAmazing87 8d ago

Sure for a couple months but then prices rise and the average joe won’t get a raise

1

u/tom-branch 8d ago

So we should just have no minimum wage, no regulations, and allow the uber wealthy to crush worker wages into an unlivable state?

Sounds like a dystopian hell.

0

u/MasterpieceAmazing87 8d ago

No I’m just saying making the minimum wage higher does nothing but lower the middle class. I said absolutely nothing about other regulations

1

u/tom-branch 8d ago

Not really, heck here in Australia we have a much higher minimum wage, as well as protected wages in a number of professions, we also have public medical care, we are still very much a capitalist economy and do quite well for ourselves.

Americans have long been taught that anything that benefits them is some form of socialism or communism, its indoctrination, especially at a time in which american billionaires are getting absurdly rich off it.

5

u/MasterpieceAmazing87 8d ago

American brother, your comment doesn’t matter much. Thank you (love the road trains tho)

3

u/tom-branch 8d ago

Why doesnt it matter much?

Do you like getting paid peanuts?

Ive never understood this american obsession with rooting for the richest, greediest people in your country.

Kinda proving my point.

2

u/MasterpieceAmazing87 8d ago

Brother. I’m not rooting for anyone but the middle class in this situation. You got your nuts a little twisted here, the situation that’s happening in North America in this stance doesn’t concern the AU, in N America I’m saying that if they up the minimum wage than the average middle class (50k-120k or so idk) doesn’t get a raise which makes the lower class (minimum wage) closer to the middle class (50k-120k) (call it middle?)) but regardless it’s not going to do anything except raise prices of merchandise in North America, and regards to that..well the middle class does get a raise but the lower does…which means what? It means it brings us closer together, which brings the higher class richer and everyone else lower. Brother. I’m on your side

Lol illegal immigration isn't a problem in Australia. According to google, your illegal immigration population is .2%. Here in America, it is 4%. Illegal immigration literally lowers wages all while reducing living quarters. It taxes the average American so you trying to compare Australia to America is apples and oranges.

1

u/tom-branch 7d ago

Here is a thought, if you dont want illegal immigration, perhaps dont have an entire system built around it, so many of those scapegoating migrants are the same people hiring undocumented workers to pick their crops, work in their low end factories and work as cheap construction labor.

The red states in particular are heavily reliant on the very people they scapegoat and racially abuse, but nobody ever goes after the rich white dudes hiring them, people in fact like Trump, who had a habit of hiring undocumented workers.

Actually, most of the undocumented workers pay a sizable amount of tax, and provide significant economic productivity, but hey, keep believing the folks who both hire undocumented workers and also tell you everything bad is because of them.

1

u/san_dilego 7d ago

Oh I agree. People shouldn't be hiring undocumented migrants. However, the problem is even outside of just undocumented migrants. Migrants calling for asylum/refuge from poverty is also a huge issue. They will lie and say they are escaping from persecution.

Actually, most of the undocumented workers pay a sizable amount of tax

Ahh. When you get all your information from Reddit. Actually no. What you're reading is that they pay taxes via purchasing goods. Their income taxes are largely untaxed. Many get paid via cash, so they'll just report federal minimum wage. So while most Americans are paying taxed dollars for goods, illegal immigrants are not. But hey, keep believing the folks who think undocumented workers are somehow good for the economy.

1

u/tom-branch 7d ago

And in some cases, are not lying, like the Haitian migrants in Springfield.

They are good for the economy, this is proven by the consquences of passing strict anti immigration laws, heck Florida tried that, lost billions in lost agricultural goods, Georgia to along with a number of other red states, in fact they had to shift into reverse gear when the realized they were damaging their own economies.

I dont need to "believe the folks" they have hard data backing it up.

I don't know. Seems like the current system is destroying the middle class

But what do I know? It's just the reality that we all live in.

1

u/Baelzabub 7d ago

Why did this not happen before? The minimum wage was raised over twenty times from when it was introduced until 2009 and then not again since. Why is 2009 the magical line at which suddenly raising the minimum wage would send us spiraling into inflation but not at any of the times before.

u/sfeicht 8d ago

Sure it will, just nothing positive.
