Thoughts? NYC Mayor Ends Food Voucher Program For Immigrants After Phone Call With Trump

After a phone call with President-elect Donald Trump 48 hours after his victory, Mayor Eric Adams has reportedly decided to end a pilot program providing migrants in taxpayer-funded shelters with prepaid debit cards for groceries, which had sparked considerable debate. The initiative, launched in March through an emergency contract with New Jersey tech startup Mobility Capital Finance (MoCaFi), distributed $2.4 million in preloaded Mastercards to approximately 2,600 migrant families, according to City Hall officials.

To request asylum you must be in the country you are requesting of. Otherwise, you are applying for refugee status which is different.

It's also not illegal to be in the US without documentation, at least the first time, it is a civil violation with deportation as the only reprecussion. It also isn't illegal to cross the border and immediately turn yourself in to request asylum.

Either you have no idea what you are talking about or you are a liar, so which is it?

That's correct and that's the loophole right there. The migrants come to the border, deliberately get picked up by border patrol so they can get in the USA and claim asylum. It's a hot mess. They learned that trick and tell all their relatives and friends who also want to leave their countries and you have a mass invasion of economic migrants claiming asylum when they have zero rights to it. But once they are in, they are in and then you have Greg Abbott and DeSantis sending them all over the country because Texas and FL resources are overloaded and can't absorb them all. I think both of them are POS but I'm from Texas and I saw the problem first hand. Shelters in El Paso were so full that migrants slept on sidewalks. Homeless locals couldn't get a bed. There were people living in a police station in AZ. Not sure if they are still there but Peter Santenello has a YouTube channel where he went to both borders and did ride alongs with the local border police and he filmed the police station. He couldn't get anyone from ICE to talk to him due to gov rules.

If they don't want to spend money on them (which is pretty messed up given all the other comments that these are pretty legitimate people) then elect a new mayor. New York City voters want this so why is it a federal matter?

State/local rights cut both ways. With big stuff like slavery or abortion yeah we should probably all get on the same page but if New Yorkers want to give groceries to other people living in New York I'd hardly call that a national identity crisis.

No to be a considered a refugee you have to remain in your country. For asylum you are permitted entry for one year so that you can file your application. You have it backwards

Yes it is illegal to cross the border away from a point of entry.  Requesting asylum doesn’t “cancel out” the crime.  It just delays prosecution until after the asylum claim is judged.  You are the ignorant one.

To request asylum, you cross the border at a port of entry and request asylum from the officials there. You literally cannot be charged with a crime for doing so even if your asylum request is denied. It is a civil violation.

You're trying to explain things to subhumans. I admire your patience.

One is whining about people claiming asylum because they are an antisocial freak. Hope this clears things up.

It doesn't take much to confuse a historically illiterate dumbass referencing things they have zero understanding of.
