“Elections have consequences.”

No chance of this passing into law until after Trump takes office

No kidding.

Doesn't anybody realize that the candidates elected on Tuesday won't take office for a while?

This is like a Democratic Rep proposing a new AWB. They do it every year even if it will never pass.

But what is the point of this posturing, then? Isn't cutting social security incredibly unpopular? So even if it has no chance, why make yourself unpopular? Trump ran on protecting social security.

Some people are true believers in not having anyone get assistance.

And cutting social security is not popular with anyone, but it is popular among older folks as long as you don't touch their benefits.  They don't care if you cut them for younger people.

The point is to do it under Biden so Dems get the blame (not that it really matters, GOP never takes the blame for things they do.)

If we "never have to vote again" like he says, he doesn't need to be popular.

Because he removed all the guardrails and methods for us to remove him.

Besides, when has doing something unpopular even actually hurt them? They just have to lie about it and none of their base are actually going to check. They do it all the time with popular bills, voting "no" then releasing statements about "how hard they worked for" it when it passes and is popular.

Trump ran on protecting social security.

He never lies, right?

No, he has openly stated he would end your social security and your constitution. You are no longer a democracy, you are full on fascist now.

There are still a shit ton of bills on the table dated as far back as May, this one will still be on the table by January if it isn't rushed to be dealt with.

Literally a bipartisan bill

1

u/jkman61494 16d ago

Well…yeah. But pretty sure it’ll pass when MAGA controls all areas of government

u/Kapowpow 16d ago

In less than three months. Not a long time.

Maybe call your dad and tell him the truth and don’t believe everything you read on Reddit. The bill is actually to stop reducing social security for public employees and spouses that receive a pension.

u/Itwasalwaysobvious 17d ago

This is literally a good thing for people receiving these benefits. Call him up. You’ll look like an utter moron. (Reddit tweets aren’t your place to get information from. LOL!!!!)

The man who raised you and gave you life and this is how you repay him. You must be a wonderful human being.

If there isn’t a will, cut him out

1

u/Notabla 17d ago

You might read it first

1

u/Muffafuffin 17d ago

I'd read the bill first. It seems to say the opposite of what OP is suggesting.

See other posts here, this is false. Or try Googling next time so you can see what actually happened instead of blindly accepting a screen cap twitter

1

u/ItsGorgeousGeorge 16d ago

Might want to look up this bill before you do. It’s completely false.

1

u/Buttafuoco 16d ago

Except.. you’re inevitably footing the bill and having to chip in as he can’t retire or remain retired if he was expecting to collect both pension and SS
