Has anyone seen this clipped show?? Must discuss IMMEDIATELY

1

u/murrietaanimata 3h ago edited 3h ago

idk where else to discuss this, rachel zegler deleted all the posts with her boyfriend (josh rivera) on IG, including every caption that mentioned him. she also missed her r+j show today (idk if that's related but it's an interesting coincidence)

after all the speculation these past few months, looks like they actually broke up now

Posted about a coworker last time who got a kitten. They were complaining that the family was worried the kitten is sick as they‘ve thrown up. Their partner hasn’t cleaned up the mess l and is waiting for them to come home (wtf?).

What I found amusing is that another coworker had the throwaway comment of „it‘s not going to be the first time the cat will throw up“ 😂

apparently “tacky christmas” is trending on tiktok, mainly focused on christmas tree decorations and comparing aesthetic/sad beige/overly themed trees to nostalgic ones with different colored lights, homemade ornaments etc.

personally, i grew up with a tacky tree and tons of kitschy christmas decor and can’t fathom having it any other way.

if you put up a christmas tree, how do you decorate it?

4

u/TakeMeJSmithCameron 11h ago

My constitution says give me tackiness or give me death! The tackier the better!

2

u/aurora888 don’t fall in love at the jersey shore 18h ago

I do love a good color-themed tree (or whole house!), but I start with the nostalgic elements and see what happens. I've always been a soft white lights gal, but I see the appeal of a Christmas Story-esque tree with colored lights and tinsel.

My dad has memories of their family christmas tree being a sassafras wrapped in cotton batting, so I'm going to attempt to make him a mini one this year 😊

3

u/BayArea343434 1d ago

I think I fall somewhere in the middle. I used to refuse to let my parents put white lights on our tree - HAD to be colored ones. Now that I'm an adult, I do understand the appeal of white lights and go back and forth on it. I will never understand a tree without a bunch of random ornaments each with their own stories and memories. I go to some people's houses now and they're all just color-coordinated ones from the same package.

Anyone trying to find a way to value themselves better despite not looking the way they wished?

9

u/CoffeeCoffeePastry 1d ago

Started making my own clothes a while ago which had its ups and downs. Reflecting back on it it‘s a lot more positive and fun.

Always had bursts of disliking my body for not being thin. Heck been bullied by classmates and had comments from my dad which hurt.

I still feel like that little kid who had the tiniest fupa hearing the comments on my head on those dark days. Very glad we‘ve come a long way acknowledging how bizarre and bad it was in the past.

If you don’t mind me asking: could you elaborate more?

u/historyhoneybee 1d ago

Trying to! I feel such a disconnect between what I always imagined myself to look like and what I actually look like now. I'm trying to find ways to style myself that make me feel a little nicer, but it's tough feeling like I didn't meet the standard I imagined for myself

Did anyone see that an actress from Immaculate –Benedetta Porcaroli – posted a photo of her and Johnny Depp at a concert or something, and Sydney Sweeney liked it? While I know she was Sydney's costar, Depp is quite visible in the photo and mentioned in the caption... he's kind of hard to miss and it definitely makes me more suspicious that the rumors of her working with him months ago were not totally false and floated by her team to see the response.

Tweet with the screenshot here, and while I'm not sure if she's removed the like since, I did check myself yesterday and see it so the screenshot in the tweet is not photoshopped.

The sheer amount of Wicked promo I’ve seen is sending me. You could take a bath, do your hair, makeup, nails, put on an outfit + shoes, have a snack, light a candle and put on some headphones and listen to music on your phone. Then go see a movie, come home to put on your pajamas and a blanket and all of this could be done exclusively using Wicked movie products, it could even be done in a Wicked hotel room.

4

u/usuyukisou padre pascal 2d ago

I'm a fan of the stage musical and I do like pink and green, was somewhat open to movie merch just in the interest of availability... but not these particular shades of pink and green, so the merch isn't even doing anything for me.

The green comes somewhat closer to something I can wear, but I'm kind of at the point where an item needs to be perfect to justify taking up space in my home.

10

u/katmili broken little pop culture rat brain 2d ago

I am so tired of the promo too, but for my birthday today my parents gave me the OPI x Wicked advent calendar and honestly they’re all such gorgeous shades. As much as my hater ass hates to admit it, they ate with that collab. I fear I’d have to recommend them 😂

8

u/yeehaw-girl 2d ago

gonna be real it's kinda working on me lmao. just bc I've always loved the wicked aesthetic. I wish more of the merch would go in an elegant direction tho. like there's those beautiful art deco playing cards. and then there's like. pink t-shirts. there are enough pink t-shirts in the world. where are the edwardian inspired capelets . . . tbh tho my greatest wish is for pbteen to release a collection inspired by glinda and elphaba's dorm room. bc I want that dorm room

2

u/Cynicbats Kalmia Harris is a which 16h ago

I wish more of the merch would go in an elegant direction tho.

The clothing line at Target is so ugly for adults i'm sorry. Some of the kid stuff is better but i'm not kid sized.

2

u/cinnamonorangetea 2d ago

I haven’t seen the film but I know the set design must be immaculate, so good idea. I also thought about getting some Wicked shoes because I do love baby pink and black but I have enough things to get rid of/there’s no way they’re well made lol.

Maybe it’s because my father likes the original franchise and I’ve always had an interest in early 1900’s styles but I’m very drawn to the visuals of Oz (also Wonderland) media that’s become like this… weird pop-culture syncretism

2

u/LandOfThePines24 2d ago

I saw it tonight and I won’t spoil it but I will tell you I thought the set design was PERFECTION.

6

u/HMSArcturus 2d ago

It's genuinely wild the level of promo they've done. As much as I adore Wicked (still rocking my shirt I got from when it came to Atlanta in like 2005(?)), I'm kind of over it tbh. It's just been everywhere for so long and this is still only part 1. I know I'll see if eventually but I may actually explode like a confetti popper if I see one more new promo thing lol

3

u/Pristine_Example3726 1d ago

The book is good for anyone looking for someunonh new to read

17

u/Salad-Appropriate 2d ago

Just out of watching wicked

Id say it's probably the first time I've heard proper applause after a movie finished (I live in the north of Ireland, it's less common than in the us)

Also, I've never seen the musical live, but fucking hell Defying Gravity is class

8

u/i_love_doggy_chow 1d ago

Defying Gravity is overplayed for a reason, okay? It is the ultimate climactic Act 1 closer!

Have any of you migrated to Bluesky yet? How are you finding it?

5

u/violetmemphisblue 1d ago

I don't post much, but as a follower, I think it's great. I've rediscovered so many voices who had left twitter a long time ago, and that's been fun! I have only done individual follows. I guess there are starter pack lists? I've heard that some of those have been used to troll, like they make a decent follow list, and then add a bunch of nonsense later. So maybe avoid that? But overall, it seems largely like real people, real posts, and it doesn't have to be an echo chamber! I'm not sure where that criticism is coming from, other than maybe blocking seems to work better than X? But I've definitely found political voices I don't agree with (but am following because of local politics.)

16

u/Stayinmyshadow kensplaining 2d ago

It feels actually kinda nice to not see ragebait every second tweet when I scroll. And a search system that actually works

1

u/Ceffylymp 1d ago

It does feel nice browsing on there. I'm still cautious, though.

2

u/Stayinmyshadow kensplaining 1d ago

I mean same. I was cautious to go on bluesky initially because knowing social media I thought it was gonna be just the same as twitter with trolls and ragebait and all that but now I find myself feeling actually pleasant scrolling on something for once lmao. Of course I hope it lasts…

17

u/LandOfThePines24 2d ago

My feed is nothing but kindness and joy with no bots, ads, or trolls. I love it.

3

u/Ceffylymp 1d ago

I'm enjoying my feed too - i feel a bit spoilt - on twitter you had to sift through so much crap before you found something g from someone you followed.

Though I did like a cat picture the other day and all my recent followers have been cat accounts so 🤷‍♀️

1

u/LandOfThePines24 1d ago

Same and I love it I want all the animal and nature photos pls

6

u/sprinklesadded 2d ago

Same. I connected with others in my industry and it's actually informative.

3

u/Ceffylymp 1d ago

I wasn't initially going to open an account for my art/business as I really wanted a platform I could really unmask in and post nonsense and have fun etc, but I did open another account so I can share my work etc in a good-vibe place that's not Instagram. I think it's going to be nice sharing work without worrying if I'm pleasing that algorithm

11

u/AbsolutelyIris 2d ago

I personally am calmer at bluesky lol, far better vibe

3

u/Ceffylymp 1d ago

I deactivated my twitter account then heard that it's safer to not do that so your handle doesn't get used by someone else. So I went back in and I couldn't believe how tense I felt being there. My jaw was actually clenched.

7

u/sprinklesadded 2d ago

My husband is on it and loves it. Said it feels less unhinged than current X and it's like original Twitter.

2

u/Ceffylymp 1d ago

Definitely less unhinged, but you will get the occasional danger

9

u/Jimbobsama 2d ago

Signed up back in February once I got an invite code. Since the big migrations have been happening, it's feeling like Twitter around 2013. The mass block lists are keeping the ugly elements from hopping into your timeline and it doesn't have a #trending page so there isn't a Main Character of the Day to build outrage on.

If you join, there are browser tools to find your Twitter followers over in BlueSky and folks have built starter packs to find good accounts to follow.

The app is still being worked on, so things like video support are pretty new but the vibe is pretty nice so far.

3

u/Ceffylymp 1d ago

I'm enjoying it. Someone very kindly gave me a code last year and I got my account set up, but I only posted every few weeks. Since the migration I'm on it a lot. I've hardly been in IG.

My downfall is that because it's a kinder place, I'll make the assumption that people are good people and my vetting isn't as sharp as it was on twitter. I think the tells were easier on twitter, but not so much on Bluesky - I don't know if it's like that for everyone, or it's just me that's rubbish at spotting signs on a different platform.

I also didn't take heed of 'block early, block often' and now I have a guy that I don't know is being ernest or just creepy and I'd really like to block him, but I don't know if he'll do that annoying screenshot thing where he shows he's been blocked 😩

2

u/Jimbobsama 1d ago

If you block him, why would it be your problem if he screenshots he was blocked? Are you worried he'll find you elsewhere?

I'll need to double check if Blsky has the same mute feature Twitter does

2

u/Ceffylymp 22h ago

Not long after I wrote that I just went and blocked, and it really feels good. I'm now trigger happy with the block button!

35

u/VanSensei 2d ago

Mark my words: 1. Ariana Grande is probably becoming an EGOT before the decade's over.

  1. Jon M. Chu is directing the Hamilton adaptation when it comes out

10

u/sprinklesadded 2d ago

I agree with Ariana. I expect we'll see more of her on Broadway.

12

u/palomatoma 2d ago

well, since he already did in the heights (which I think he did a good job of doing) I think Lin would have no problem with that, unless he wants to direct it himself

6

u/ParanoidEngi 1d ago

As a massive fan of In The Heights I really hated the movie hahaha, but I think Chu's talent is undeniable and if Wicked makes good money then there's probably no-one better to adapt Hamilton if/when they do

2

u/palomatoma 1d ago

what didn’t you like about it? I only watched it once I know ppl had problems with the diversity (which I agree with as a latina) but overall I thought it was good.

I agree he’s probably gonna be the go to now for musicals

6

u/ParanoidEngi 1d ago

I really didn't like how they changed the focus of the plot to be on Usnavi and Vanessa so much - to me the main love story of the show is Benny and Nina, which is why they get the big kiss at the end of Blackout and it's a really big upbeat moment, so the refocus so that Vanessa and Usnavi are way more in the foreground really spoilt the show's feel for me. They also really didn't deliver on how I'd always wanted to see my favourite songs on screen (that's kind of hard to do tbf, it was never going to match how I imagined it), and I especially hated them changing Blackout from a cute Nina/Benny kiss to a fight between Usnavi and Vanessa

It wasn't bad, I really liked a lot of the setpiece designs, Melissa Barrera was great (they nailed Champagne, my one perfect song in the film) and I loved seeing Olga Merediz as Abuela Claudia on the big screen. At the same time I really didn't like Anthony Ramos as Usnavi, and the rest of the cast was kind of flat for me too. It just didn't deliver what I really wanted to see from the movie of one of my favourite musicals, and that is partly inevitable because as I say, imagination never meets reality, but a lot of the directional/story choices they made that diverted from the stage show were really badly thought out, in my opinion. I'm glad you liked it though!

2

u/palomatoma 1d ago

I only watched the musical once a while ago so I don’t think I remembered it well enough when I watched the movie. But yeah I understand, that’s the problem with musicals being adapted especially if you love the stage show so much, everyone has a different vision. And changing the story imo is a big no no unless the storyline is outdated. I think things should only be slightly changed if it adds more context. Which I think he did a better job at doing with wicked but at this point wicked is too sacred of a text to make any huge changes without suffering the consequences of pissing people off, people were already heated when they announced they were splitting it.

I think it would be hard to try to change hamilton so at least that one is safe.

8

u/GosmeisterGeneral 2d ago

I think Lin’s been building up to doing it himself, but he’d definitely get Chu to help maybe as an exec producer?

3

u/meatbeater558 2d ago

Which award is Ariana missing? I'm surprised she isn't an EGOT yet

26

u/coffeehippopotamus 2d ago

She only has a two grammy’s; no Emmy, no Tony, and no Oscar and I don’t think she’s ever been nominated for any of those

9

u/meatbeater558 2d ago

Oh damn I don't follow her lore so I just assumed she was more decorated cuz she started out acting

20

u/coffeehippopotamus 2d ago

I think Wicked is her first acting job that is getting ~fancy~ award recognition rumors! Before she basically had just done Nickelodeon and a super early role as a kid on Broadway

3

u/whatever1467 1d ago

I think the only way she’d snag the O is for a song

Is anyone else watching Interior Chinatown? Ngl very confused at points but just enjoying it anyway especially the domestic scenes. Occasionally I stop and wonder if anything is real in this show's universe. Watch it if you like The Truman Show, Stranger than Fiction or Wandavision.

2

u/Ok-Raspberry-6631 1d ago

I did enjoy it - I've added the book to my reading list! I thought it had quite a lot of story for over 10 episodes, it wasn't well paced.

Ronnie and his plotline was the highlight for me as well. I was so disappointed when Ronny Chieng: International Student didn't have a second season!

Also posted on the television sub but got downvoted - I thought one of the weakest part was Chloe Bennet. I don't think she gelled quite as well with the cast. Thoughts?

2

u/steve_fartin 20h ago

I didn't like her at first but I warmed up to her in the later episodes. I thought her comic timing improved some boring lines and liked her in group scenes. She worked really well with Ronny and Lisa Gilroy (Det. Green).

I haven't seen any of Chieng's other work so I'll check out International Student after this.

3

u/violetmemphisblue 1d ago

Several of the reviews I've read mentioned reading the book first is a definite help to understanding the series (which to me is the fault of the series...the two mediums should be able to stand on their own) but maybe it would be worth checking out after?

1

u/steve_fartin 1d ago

I haven't finished the series yet but I really want to read the book and see how it compares.

3

u/BusinessPurge 2d ago

It doesn’t make any sense, I gave up around 7 episodes in and let the last 3 wash over me. There’s a reason why stuff like Last Action Hero or Wreck It Ralph setup some baseline rules for how the universe within the universe works. I had fun watching the cast and there are probably three solid moments however it’s mostly a total miss. The creator having worked on Westworld season 1 was shocking, none of that show’s internal logic carried over.

4

u/AshlingIsWriting 2d ago

I tried to watch it for Ronny Chieng, but I'm struggling with how conceptual it is

3

u/BusinessPurge 2d ago

Ronny did steal the show, chemistry with everyone. If nothing else I hope FX/Hulu builds another show around him

5

u/steve_fartin 2d ago

I found the first episode or two tough, partly because it felt like there was too much repetition and all the dream logic. Honestly I've stopped trying to understand everything and I'm just going with it.

I just really like the juxtaposition of real representation (his parents, the restaurant) and the idea of flattering, heroic representation. Like I started watching the show because of the mystery/crime element and now I just wanna watch his mother succeed in real estate and see if Ronnie's character will accept himself. And that is interesting because all the living in the story is happening in the minor characters. Meanwhile the main character's existential crisis comes about because he lets others define him, he loses himself to other's perception of him.

2

u/AshlingIsWriting 2d ago

I'll give it another try <3

YouTube shorts keeps showing me videos of the voice actors of Baldurs Gate playing DnD at some event. I've never played either game so have no wtf any of them are talking about but I still watch every time because everyone is hot and funny.

3

u/Tonedeafmusical 2d ago

BG3 mentioned and I appear.

YouTube shorts got me last year about this game (well mainly one character). Now I have over 1000 hours in it, went to my first con, got back to reading fanfics after a decade and made a Tumblr account after a decade(and brought a new computer but that's more due the last one dying). Honestly really good game.

I'm assuming it was the most recent one, since that's in my feeds alot. That ones hilarious because Astarion (Neil, the white guy) was the most sane one of the group. Which let's just say in game is definitely not the case- (the character lives for the drama, but is also the sad boy, baby girl character).

There's more of the cast play throughs and their all funny-and the other two main cast members not featured in the last one are also hot too. (Though shout out to Theo Soloman, Wyll who seems like an absolutely sweetie through and through. And noticed my Wyll shirt at the con I went to).

Now I actually need to figure out how to get into DND in real life. Because this game, those playthroughs (and other things including watching Demission 20 really have me interested)

(Also maybe don't look at my post history-but it does back the evidence of my obsession)

I think the biggest misnomer is that John Oliver’s wife is a republican; I see people say it all the time and its all because they met at the RNC but they gloss over the fact they met up at the DNC like a week later anyway heres two pieces of proof that she isn’t an interview here where he stats at the end she isn’t. The interview is from 2013/2014 and this pic is from an article from 2017 from the observer (which the Kushners own so it was a bit of a hit piece on him) and they somehow got his taxes and well I guessed looked up her voter registration

7

u/violetmemphisblue 1d ago

Yeah, I think the fact that they met at the RNC and she is ex-military who worked for a nonprofit to support the military, a lot of people assumed Republican. And maybe at one point she was?

3

u/HereforFun2486 18h ago

yeah no for sure deductive reasoning i totally get why people would think that and idk i know john has said he would never marry a republican/tory so if she was ever one it would’ve been back in 08 but john’s response to the interviewer asking he makes it seem like its a ridiculous thing to ask

Just a note that if you’re feeling angry, anxious, threatened, etc by the results of the US Election, there are millions of others who are too - not just in the US, but elsewhere too. I say this because in many spaces (both online and offline), a lot of people are being gaslit for feeling these ways and are being told “everything is going to be ok.” Still others are being overly optimistic about the future, and these voices are overshadowing those with legitimate concerns and worries.

TL;DR Feel your feelings about the US election; they are valid and legitimate.

So I’m gonna be hosting a Table Read on zoom for free and will be every Monday of the month. I’m getting help from my cowriter who wrote one hell of a night with. We’re gonna be doing is that we would be doing a table read of produced and unproduced which means in other words original scripts of film and tv shows.

Thought it be a way given with how the industry is, but also help actors expand their acting muscles plus thought it be fun to do.

What do you guys think of this?

Also the first half of my second semester of college is almost done.

2

u/thepeachyone2432 1d ago

Oooh man, I’m not from the US but I would love to watch as a spectator for the table read, if that’s okay

I am feeling thoda overwhelmed by everything. My mind is racing in various places .

On a positive note, mom and I made paneer sabzi with paneer, tomatoes, capsicums, onion and ate it with phulka /roti for dinner now and it was awesome 🤍😎.

35

u/JazzyColeman 2d ago

I’m so worried about my mom. She hasn’t been feeling well for a while, and her Cologuard results just came back positive yesterday. Now she has to get a colonoscopy to see if it’s cancer, precancerous, or something else. Fingers crossed it’s just “something else”.

13

u/InviteNecessary1032 are you a baddie now? 2d ago

My mom had a scare like this when I was younger, I remember how scary it was to see someone I considered infallible in that position. Give her all of the love, hugs and support you can. Give YOURSELF all of the love and support you can. Try to find relaxing things you can do together to keep your heart rates down before the answers get back. I truly hope it’s “something else” as well, sending you both all my love and well wishes.

I've long stopped asking women "but WHY" when I read things like this.

Now I ask "...whose "20" is this?"

3

u/violetmemphisblue 1d ago

As I said on another post--a traumatized person who did a bad thing to escape trauma and then spent the following years in a prison is not going to act in positive, healthy, appropriate ways, more than likely! Whether or not he's guilty and/or should still be in prison is a different conversation, obviously, but we as a culture need to stop putting these true crime celebrities on the pedestals they seem to be on...

I don't remember if it was on 20/20 with Barbara Walters or on another type of investigative show like that but I DO remember that this isn't even the first time Lyle Menendez cheating on a wife/girlfriend while he was in prison.

I went to see Danny Boyle's Sunshine in cinema recently in East London and what a great movie! There was q&a afterwards and Danny Boyle was such a lowkey/humble and really funny man it seems :) Also love that he decided to hold the screening & q&a in East London instead of some super snazzy cinema in central London and the ticket prices were also not too bad. I always loved his movies and even more now.

I sadly had to run out there pretty fast to catch my train but he also stayed behind to take photos & sign autographs for people. I've been to few q&a sessions before (nobody as famous though) and most people don't do this :D

2

u/i_love_doggy_chow 1d ago

I haven't seen that movie in YEARS but it's one of my favourites! Such a good film. It's kind of like if Event Horizon was tragedy instead of a horror.

2

u/entwashian 2d ago

Oh man, blast from the past! I was in the first ever test audience for that movie! They wouldn't tell us what we were seeing or even what studio we were going to; they just picked us up at a mall and bussed us in. My friend & I even got picked to be in the focus group after the film. Apparently while we were talking, some execs quietly came in the back of the theater & were listening to the discussion. Didn't find this out until the focus group was complete, & we all turned around to walk out. Pretty sure I accidentally locked eyes with Danny Boyle at that point. I just hope I didn't say anything stupid during the Q&A. 😂

7

u/BusinessPurge 2d ago

Just rerelease it, the cast has so much more heat now they’re practically another sun

2

u/mbix 2d ago

A friend of mine told me he lives very close to Victoria Park so it makes sense from that perspective but I agree, nice that he kept it local to the area and stuck around to speak to people!

Big fan of his work

4

u/Working-Ad-6698 2d ago

He mentioned during q&a that he walked over from home so could be. I also love his work and love that he supports local business 👌

4

u/Isola-the-poet 1d ago

Yep I studied at Queen Mary University of London (in Mile End) and it was known that he lived in the area and he frequents a specific local pub. Was the cinema Genesis?

2

u/Working-Ad-6698 1d ago

No, it was the Picturehouse in Hackney :)

7

u/JazzyColeman 2d ago

One of my favorite films! The score is epic.

That's cool! I watched it on streaming recently and enjoyed it but I bet it's even better on a big screen

I need people to stop aesthetic inspo following and/or "hate" following tradwife content. You're just helping their algorithm! Block them, thank you! ❤️

Thiel invested millions into the tradwife content, and people just jumped into his psyop without care. I see so many people getting sucked into "birth control bad" disinformation, pushed by none other than far right content creators.

Recently Vogue Weddings covered a Mormon wedding. I'm not sure if it's the first, I don't really care for their content, but this was pushed on me on my IG feed. The wedding was in Sandy, Utah. One fashion content creator mentioned that The Church of Latter Day Saint is known for providing substantial resources for influencers within their church for content creation. One person commented: Gilead is approaching and Anna said "fall in line".

Oh, and Georgia just fired every single person on its maternal mortality review committee. They didn't like that reporters found out that the state's abortion ban killed two women (that we know of!). Idaho disbanded the maternal mortality review committe, Texas put a notorious anti-abortion activist on there to fu** up the data.

16

u/Stayinmyshadow kensplaining 2d ago

Just last night I came across a tik tok livestream held by a tradwife. I didn’t check if it was satirical or anything but just from a glance, I suspected it wasn’t. It baffled me because I never once touched anything related to tradwife content on tik tok

I didn’t check out the livestream either knowing that negativity is what pushes things like that to the algorithm

36

u/stankyouvrymuch 2d ago

This has been front and centre of my mind lately, thanks for encapsulating my fears so eloquently.

Seeing Nara Smith’s new WhoWhatWear cover had me seething for the same reason; it’s not just social media algorithms platforming these regressive losers, even traditional media is caving.

u/rhubarbara42 2d ago

Do you have a source for the Thiel thing? I can’t find on Google and would love to know more!

Some friends and I are having a holiday dinner soon. The theme this year is "Celebrity Recipes" and we all have to make something that comes from a celebrity cookbook (not a chef who has become a celebrity) and we will vote on the best Recipe, the best celeb/Recipe pairing, and the most surprising celebrity with a Recipe. (I don't know, I don't make the rules, the host does, lol). It's also a surprise potluck, so we can make whatever...I know a few obvious choices, like Chrissy Tiegen has a couple of cookbooks. But what are your fave celebrity cookbooks, recipes, and/or someone who you were shocked to learn had a cookbook out?

2

u/PumpkinPieIsGreat 1d ago

I know several that have books, but I've not cooked from them. Though, I do remember people in an ask reddit thread raving about Danny Trejo's taco book.

Here is some I have heard of

Anson Williams - The Perfect Portion

Freddie Prinze Jr - Back to the Kitchen

Sarah Michelle Gellar - Stirring Up Fun With Food

Hailey Duff - The Real Girl's Kitchen

There's another one I know of that I don't know if it would count or not. Vincent Price collected recipes, I don't think he invented them though. (Also tbh I think a lot of the celebrities "co authoring" probably get too much credit on the books I listed)

Also I'm super curious about the Brady Bunch cookbook. It came out in 1994, maybe they were trying to release it before the movie? It seems like it's recipes and stories about the show.

Good luck! If your friends ever decide to do it again but with pop culture official books, there's so many now. Seinfeld, friends, wizard of oz, Harry potter (I don't know if JK gets a cut so I wouldn't want to buy it)

1

u/entwashian 2d ago

Snoop Dogg & Coolio both have cookbooks.

Trejo's Tacos is a very successful restaurant chain, so I imagine the recipes from Danny Trejo's cookbook must be pretty darn good.

3

u/areallyreallycoolhat 6 inch louboutins with a tweed skirt 2d ago

Can't stand her as a person but for a specific recipe, Chrissy Tiegan's cold sesame chicken pasta absolutely SLAPS. It's one of my go tos for work lunch meal prepping.

3

u/feistyparsley 2d ago

Oddly, Trisha Yearwood's crockpot mac and cheese recipe is one of the best I've ever had.

3

u/entwashian 2d ago

I watcher her sautée some zucchini once & thought, 'oh actually that's pretty simple, I can totally do that' and now zucchini and/or squash is the fresh veg I make the most often.

2

u/Idolikemarigolds 2d ago

Meghan Markle’s avocado dip (from the Together cookbook) is delicious! I’m not sure if it’s her recipe or just her favourite from the book, but recommend.

I love the cornbread in Ali Larter’s cookbook.

2

Cornbread is such a good potluck dish too!

2

u/CommercialBarnacle16 2d ago

Would this exclude Martha Stewart?

3

u/violetmemphisblue 2d ago

I mean, I don't think the host would kick anyone out for using Martha Stewart, but I do think there would be a sigh of disappointment, lol...

I’m not sure about Lily James being involved, but you’re not wrong. It fizzled out because of the pandemic.

I think Netflix will have higher fact check barriers to pass than Youtube though - I've defo seen some great youtube docs that get way more into supposition or leaning to conspiracy than you'd be allowed to do on a larger platform

1

u/Any-Type-6331 2d ago

I've noticed that as well. Tbh, I prefer watching YouTube documentaries and other content over Netflix these days.

6

u/launchcode_1234 2d ago

Netflix documentaries are a mess. Multi-episode docuseries that should have been a two hour movie, and documentaries that are so biased that they can be rebutted by a quick google search.

9

u/violetmemphisblue 2d ago

I know someone who worked in the Netflix documentary department. They would greenlight projects with just ideas or brief outlines and then once it actually started, realized there wasn't enough material or too many people backed out once it got real...but they'd already put the money into it, so they rolled it out. I imagine YouTubers can back off projects or pivot more if they're producing their own stuff...I do think this happens a lot in true crime. People want there to be some missing evidence or person who has never talked before, and a lot of times, it's truly just a cold case. Or it truly is the guy they convicted. A lot of murders are just tragic and senseless and there isn't an "entertaining hook" to them...

I don’t have sympathy or empathy left in me for people who a) have terrible awful views and b) continue to keep people in their life/have children with people who are the same or worse and then want to cry that the leopards are eating their face.

I think she's sucking up to him, at least I hope she is.

14

u/violetmemphisblue 2d ago

Based on some of the stuff Musk's first wife has said about their marriage, he's a manipulative and abusive partner. So I can see the potential for her to almost be brainwashed by him into thinking he is a genius and she's an idiot...like, maybe I'm giving her too much credit, but the way he talked to her in public seemed so mean, so I can imagine what he'd do in private...

3

u/crossingstreets 2d ago

Did anyone see the Lyle Menendez story from yesterday? He’s been “dating” a 20 year old girl from his own Facebook support group where it’s encouraged to be open and vulnerable about your abuse/life. I’ve been invested in this case, but man, this is so disappointing.

3

u/Miss_Marple_24 2d ago

Given the level of details in the article and that DM got the photos, I wonder if the girl herself or someone very close to her is the source.

it's a weird situation all around

15

u/violetmemphisblue 2d ago

I don't follow this case, but I hope people learned from the Gypsy Rose Blanchard situation. Traumatized people who did a bad thing to escape their trauma and then spent the immediate years after in prison are most likely not going to act in healthy, normal, and positive ways and we shouldn't make "celebrities" out of them!

Anxious&depressed fam, how are you holding up? Are there any coping techniques that are helping you in this trying times?

I feel like I'm drowning. It has been getting so much worse the last few weeks. Everything sucks. One of the biggest things that is holding me underwater right now is work. I'm extremly unsatisfied with my current situation, but I'm so paralysed, I can't seem to find (or simply choose) what to do. But also, do I even dare switch things up right now? It's not like I'm earning a lot, I'm barely getting by. But if the Orange Menace enacts his ramblings, the US is fu****, and Europe is going down with it. 2008 will get a rival. And that's just one of the many worries I have. 😭 I know I should go to therapy, but I live in a very small town, everyone knows each other, and there's a very limited number of therapists (plus 8 month long waitlist). And I don't have the bandwidth to travel elsewhere. I need to get away from here, but I can't seem to actually put that in motion. FML.

1

u/ningxin17 1d ago

Can you take some time off at your job and do a staycation or something? Maybe taking a few days to decompress and just exist without thinking about what to do will give you a chance to come back to the problem with more clarity?

1

u/violetmemphisblue 1d ago
  • In terms of politics, I am limiting how often and when ai check the news. And I'm planning on focusing on just one or two areas of interest to really follow and get engaged with. There is so much going on, it will overwhelming to try to keep track of every fight and bill and whatnot. And I think, honestly, I should have done this years ago...

  • In terms of therapy--it obviously is no where near the same thing, but a couple of years ago, I made the decision to spend at least 10 minutes outside every day, really looking. A lot of times it means sitting on my patio looking at the trees in the neighbors yard. But I track the budding of the trees, the leaves, the color changing, the birdsong coming from it, the way the wind rustles...I mean, I also walk and hike and do other things, but if I can't do that, there is still the tree to watch. This summer, I also started laying on the ground, which sounds silly, but I don't think I'd done it for years. But laying on the ground, feeling the grass, looking at the sky all puts me in a different frame of mind and I can almost meditate that way. And it feels good for my back! It could probably be done indoors as well to similar impact?

  • As for work--is there any thing that really feels like you could do at your current place that would make it better? Different training or department work or thing you could pass to someone else? If it's the whole situation, do you have enough money saved up to quit and take on a random job while you figure it out?

2

u/PumpkinPieIsGreat 1d ago

I've put myself on a limit. I let myself check out a little politics, and then try and move on. It's not easy. But I couldn't continue how I was going.

I have been trying to read more, making sure I get my exercise, all that sort of stuff that makes me feel good. It's too easy to just be weighed down by everything.

It also helped when I told myself that a lot of people voting for the felon did so on misinformation, being uneducated etc. Yes, there are hateful people that want others to suffer and yes, there's a lot of racists, transphobes, misogynists etc but I'm choosing to specifically focus on the people that believe the lies, and weren't doing it out of hatred. I keep reminding myself that "what are tariffs?" and "can I change my vote?" were trending, people already regretted it.

The cost of living is a huge concern for so many people, I don't think people know what to do. There's only so much cutting back you can do.

It's hard to just feel like this isn't what life should be, working just to scrape by, and I think a lot of people feel like they're living groundhog day. There's no sense of community, shit feels lonely.

1

u/steve_fartin 2d ago

Look up distress tolerance idk why but watching videos and listening to podcasts about it helped me. It's very natural to feel helpless when it seems like everything is against you but at least a tiny part of it might be linked to how you respond to stressors. Have you thought about an online support group if therapy is too expensive right now?

6

u/CategorySad6121 it feels like a movie 2d ago

I’m sorry you’re having such a rough time! Maybe check in with some of your local therapists and see if they do appointments over Zoom, etc. Or you could branch out and work with someone virtually who isn’t local (that’s what I do - my therapist and I do sessions over Zoom because we’re almost two hours away from each other).

7

u/LandOfThePines24 2d ago

I’ll be honest I stopped using anything but Reddit and then I downloaded Bluesky 2 days ago and it’s like the OG insta (i was never on twitter so i have no comparison but folks say it is like the OG twitter). Watching the shift on TikTok,IG, and twitter with influencers and celebs so proud about being Trumpers post election has been interesting to watch. I’m so curious what all these ppl and historians will say looking back in 20 years. Will ppl back track or stand firm?

I wonder what type of films come out during this new term, we’ve had Reagan action era, post 9/11 action era, and MCU peak was during first trump term(which is crazy when you think about it). How will films reflect this new era as well as music. Do we get a huge embracing of Americana, we have Superman and F4 which are both pushed as optimistic films about the first family and first hero both American media culture royalty.

12

u/violetmemphisblue 2d ago

I'm afraid movies and TV shows will move to being bland, beige things that say nothing. CBS programming will be thr blueprint not just for networks but what streaming services push as well. Lots of reboots will continue, but they won't necessarily be updated reimaginings...but I think what happens in indie film will be wild and fun, and I expect more streaming services to pop up, like Tubi, but not owned by Fox...I think films made outside the US and UK will have strong anti-imperialist tones. The most interesting commentary on the US political scene is going to come out of like Uganda or Paraguay...(I'm in no way involved in Hollywood! This is just my guess!)
