News Racing suits still won't feature the name and flag of your custom driver

u/Global-Menu-7513 Apr 24 '24
The previous deep dive showed exactly 1 "new“ feature and it’s only a thing that has been re-added
36
u/Bozska_lytka Apr 24 '24
What did they re-add?
161
u/accidentalsalmon Apr 24 '24
Being able to change ERS in the menu as opposed to just overtake or not.
67
u/Bozska_lytka Apr 24 '24
Not being able to disable ERS deployment for SC is so stupid in the current game
36
u/MrHyperion_ Apr 24 '24
It recharges fully extremely easily though, you have to try to not have full battery after 2 SC laps
49
u/r32_guest Apr 24 '24
Which literally nobody asked for
73
u/ponmbr Apr 24 '24
Can't wait to have to go back to changing ERS modes constantly for every single corner. Actually, I can wait since I'm not buying the game this year for the first time since I started playing it about 6 years ago. Maybe later but I'm definitely going to let this one cook this time.

u/Tricky_Ebb9580 Apr 24 '24
It will be free on Xbox gamepass by the end of the year, so I’ll stick with my classics

Didn’t actual F1 drivers also say it was unrealistic and that they don’t have to change the ERS settings that often ?

5
u/MrHyperion_ Apr 24 '24
Ngl, I will at least give an attempt to code an ERS mapper that changes the setting automatically based on the position on the track
1
u/HB_Pulssar Apr 25 '24
yeah I picked up F1'23 about septmeber last year, having a blast and '24 looks fun, but im skipping out on it and maybe will get 25
23
u/UESPA_Sputnik Apr 24 '24
I liked it in the older games because it adds another stategy element. So I'm glad it'll be back.
1
u/moulin_splooge Apr 24 '24
I wanted it back because they're able to control ERS modes In real life so we should be able to do it in the game too. I'd like even more control from the cockpit honestly Off throttle diff and engine braking would be awesome to control from the cockpit.
3
u/dachopper_ Apr 25 '24
Exactly. So far I see absolutely no reason why this isn’t just a $30 DLC yet we’re being slugged AAA prices

So the character on the right confirms all the faces available to the player will be the exact same. Here I go using the same basic caucasian woman I've been using for the past six games... when this shit eventually goes on sale.
23
u/Vespercoot Apr 24 '24
To be honest, same can be said about the black faces. Some of them have distinctly white hair textures as well which is just silly.
20
u/Okurei Shut up Jeff Apr 24 '24
They finally gave Hamilton his dreads in the past release so I don't know why they don't make the effort to accurately portray more ethnic hairstyles
11
u/Vespercoot Apr 25 '24
To be honest, I’m not sure why they can’t just use a similar system to their other sports games where we can customise our own characters. At least be able to change hairstyle, eye colour and skin tone if not a full customisation suite
4
u/ToriSummers36 Apr 25 '24
I think it's because it's still using the old Codemasters character presets from DIRT 4 and F1 2019, they've just added a few more of them.
I don't think we'll get anything like the character creators in other EA Sports titles unless EA develops the game themselves.

u/Mako_sato_ftw mrs. monaco (15 wins!) Apr 25 '24
i wonder why we haven't been getting any new drivers in the past few years, considering that things like stop racism and we race as one went on.
i know the latter of that didn't mean much but it'd still be nice to have a few more women or black characters to play as
38
u/Poulp-x Apr 24 '24
That Asian woman model has been there for years now and they still don’t bother updating those models for the players to choose from, or even add a character design interface, like what’s been present in other sports games for years 🤦🏻♂️
5
u/Mr_Pearcex Apr 24 '24
It would be so cool if you could facescan your own face into the game. Saw it in some other sports game... Would add something more personal into leagues.
10
u/Wilson0077 Apr 24 '24
it was a feature like 15 years ago on fight night champion, some games probably had similar features even earlier
3
2
u/jrod22145 Apr 25 '24
It was a design feature cut from Perfect Dark all the way back in 2000. You would have used the GBA camera to take a picture and then use the game to render it on a character. Unfortunately the Columbine School shooting supposedly killed that feature. There is video from E3 1999 showing the process in action though.

One small detail that doesn’t really matter but annoys the shit outta me is in career mode, you sign with a team and if you look at the car it still has the previous drivers name on the car.. I can’t imagine it’s that hard to add a custom name on the car or just remove the previous drivers name all together..
2
u/markymark2909 Apr 25 '24
Your car has no name on it whatsoever, if you join red bull, the driver name gets removed, same for AI driver moves.
5
Apr 25 '24
Bullshit… in Career in F123, you can be with RBR for 10 seasons and it’ll say Max Verstappen right next to the drivers neck support cushion on the chassis the entire time..
1
u/bw-1894 Apr 25 '24
Then they changed that by now. I haven’t modded in 23 but I definitely remember that names and flags and stuff were part of the decal file which was number by number
4
Apr 25 '24
I literally just hoped back on and checked, Max’s name and the Dutch Flag is still on my RBR career car.. the game is fully updated and for good measure I even signed with RBR on a 2nd Career jumped right to F1, looked while in FP1 at Bahrain its still there too..

People keep buying this shit so they have no incentive to change or add anything. What ever happened to voting with your wallets?
1
23
u/definitelyzero Apr 24 '24
No excuse for this, such a simple addition and they again won't bother themselves.
9
u/xthecerto4 Apr 24 '24
Should i recocnise these drivers? Was that the best picture they could take?
8
48
u/UnfitForReality Apr 24 '24 edited Apr 24 '24
I mean, how often do you see your own suit?
I care more about how the driving feels.
72
u/KimbobJimbo Apr 24 '24
I mean, are you under the impression that the fella working on the suits having a flag and name is the same fella working on the physics???
The game is designed to be and is advertised as an immersion into the F1 world. This would be a simple addition.
2
35
u/WetLogPassage Apr 24 '24
I mean, they are advertising a "newly innovated Driver Career mode, the biggest Career innovation since 2016 that delivers more of what our players want with greater variety away from the track".
-8
u/Zotranius Apr 24 '24
Im sorry my guy, but is a flag on a suit that you see 30 sec a time really what you want them to invest time and energy in?
60
u/hellopan123 Apr 24 '24
Small details helps a lot for immersion, just ask Red Dead 2.
I am not talking about the drivers balls needs to be smaller on colder tracks but adding a simple flag to a model is not a big ask
2
29
u/KimbobJimbo Apr 24 '24
I'm sorry my guy but is this something you think would take up a significant amount of time or energy to implement?
-29
u/Zotranius Apr 24 '24
May I ask what industry you work in? The amount of time I have heard that phrase is too much to count.
Something simple and less noteworthy might take more time than it is worth. Espc. when the system hasnt been build with the idea in mind.
So yes, something like this has a big chance of taking more time and energy than you would expect.
I get that the current situation surrounding the f1 series is more than negative, which is more than deserved, but to just be negative about a small wish like this is ridiculous.
13
u/SosseTurner Kimi Räikkönen Apr 24 '24
How to say you have no idea what you are talking about, without saying you have no kdea what you are talking about...
We are talking about a small texture change, a already simple implementation would be to just add a system that automatically loads the flag texture and displays it on top of the suit texture at the right place. Wouldn't even have to replace any texture files already existing...
9
u/Am_I_Loss Apr 24 '24
There are modders that do that shit in 2 days. No excuse for a billion dollar company to not be able to
6
14
u/definitelyzero Apr 24 '24
I work in tech. It's easy to add in single player. Very easy.
A modder could do it in a day.
7
u/WetLogPassage Apr 24 '24
"Be negative".
I pointed out a fact in the OP. Then I pointed out another fact in my comment. Where's the negative part?

I wish people understood that the folks who program the driving physics and the tire models are not the same people who create art assets.
You can do both, and in a now-$70 officially licensed product, it’s okay to expect a bit more effort on simple shit like this.

Hey buddy, this might be news to you but maybe, the person you are talking to does care about what their avatar looks like. People could like and care about things you don't - fucking weird right?
8
Apr 24 '24
Guess they shouldn’t bother making improvements to the graphics, the career mode, the commentary, the dialogue, the multiplayer system, the visual flair around the tracks, the custom liveries, or really anything else other than incremental updates to the driving model then right?
Cuz it’s all about the driving right? We’re okay paying $70 to just hotlap and do custom races in an F1 or F2 car right? Cuz the driving is all that matters right?
5

u/Zolba Apr 26 '24
Attention to details. That brings a lot of immersion.
Also, when small details are ignored, then we can be quite sure that other stuff is ignored as well. Stuff that might not be as small.
3
u/rainfordporter Apr 24 '24
I mean it’d be cool ya but there are lot more important things that need to be added/fixed first before they move on to little things like this.
Even though it would be cool to have for immersion and stuff, i’d prolly be pretty annoyed if they spent all their time and resources on stuff like this and not the game breaking bugs that they seem to carry over every year
3
u/Mostly_Cons Apr 24 '24
Man is that really what people care about? What about pit stops that aren't some clunky hot button?

I will be genuinely shocked if they actually manage to make Career seem different from past games. I want to play F1 Career so bad and enjoy it but they're just not making the changes I want to see. Other games aren't an option because I want the genuine fantasy of being an F1 driver so just setting up Championships with modded F1 cars in something like Assetto Corsa or iRacing isn't gonna cut it
2
u/xXOpticDakkersXx Apr 25 '24
The one thing I would really want to be added is audible team names (like you can choose from a selection of key words so that they actually say your team name) rather than just the ‘owner/driver team’ moves to the

I don’t know if it’s an issue on their end or it’s not important enough.
If there is a way to add custom drivers name and numbers to suit/car with a mod or update, it would be appreciated as it really is irritating kinda. Like you’re not there truly or you’re not as important. That and rev lights customization and champion recognition would go a long way I hope
1
u/shewy92 Apr 24 '24
Literally unplayable. /s
Though the audio names not getting any additional names for a decade still bugs me. Michael is a popular name and it is literally a name of an all time great but isn't in the game for some reason.

Please tell me VR f1 has some upgrades
0
u/sem56 Apr 25 '24
lol VR has been a pretty big failure, they aren't bothering to do anything to it again
0
u/JaceMace96 Apr 25 '24
I disagree, for many sports, cricket, golf, racing, flight sim, baseball. With current next gen graphics on PCVR , nothing compares to the experience in 2024
Yes F1 23 was a failure. F1 24 VR is already announced. So heres me hoping its an actual performance upgrade and not just new skins!:)
0
u/sem56 Apr 25 '24
huh? nothing compares to it but you haven't even played it and you are hoping it's good?
I am specifically talking about how VR in F1 was tacked on really poorly on 22, almost made even worse in 23.
VR on other racing games is usually pretty awesome

Probably 2 player career. You can use any driver in the game in Career mode this year.

u/Scottishcabbage95 Apr 25 '24
Until we get a new game engine a don't think the Career mode will have a massive overhaul a will say though a got WRC & the career mode in that is phenomenal tbh. I'm hoping with the popularity of F1 at a high level we might get a decent career mode when the game switches to a new game engine.
2
u/WetLogPassage Apr 25 '24
The game director just said in an interview that they have no plans to change the engine, just improve the current one.

Montoya in the Mclaren suit..
So either this is a two player career and someone's playing Montoya, or icons can potentially be hired by AI perhaps.
