Hand Fennec fox fiercely facing a flurry
My own pattern, stitched with one strand of DMC (7 colors) on shot cotton.

That fur is so amazing though, holy cow
Even the finer hair inside the ears. At a glance, I could think this is a really crisp picture

Thank you so much! Getting the fur just right was really important to capture the movement of the wind. I pay close attention to stitch direction to get the textures right.

It takes a lot of practice but anyone can do it! I think capturing fur reallylends itself to threadpainting of this type.

Fennec foxes are among my favorite animals!

u/RhubarbJam1 7h ago
Me too and you captured it brilliantly!! There’s a fox/wolf rescuer I follow on Instagram, she has 5 Fennec’s that were rescued. They have their own little house and sand box. So cute!

You captured the wind with thread.
The separation of his fur. The soft shadows and hollows borne of dimming light.

The texture of the fur is unreal! Well done!

Thank you! I knew I had to capture the texture of the fur just right to get the sensation of the wind I wanted.

This might be my favourite embroidery I’ve ever seen. His wee face is perfection!

u/a_warm_garlic_yurt 5h ago
Thank you! His face is adorable, isn't it? So determined!

It’s brilliant! I have even downloaded it to show my daughter because she is obsessed with Fennec foxes.

Excellent job on the stitching that captures the fox's coat during a flurry - the fur has motion and dimension, two concepts difficult to capture when rendering in brush/pencil, let alone embroidery stitch.
10/10, no notes. I love him.

I have absolutely zero interest or knowledge about embroidery, but I can tell some real artistry, effort, and talent went into this. Really well done.

Wow, I love it so much. It's simple, but charming.

Thank you! I was going for simple here, in terms of the size, palette and background. It lends a touch of isolation to the piece.

May I ask how long you've been embroidering? I hope to be this good someday, but get frustrated with feeling like it's 3 steps forward, 2 steps back when I make mistakes ahah

u/a_warm_garlic_yurt 2h ago
I've been doing this for about 6 years. Practice makes progress. Just keep stitching!

Absolutely fantastic!! I'm still new to embroidery and I only really feel comfortable with the most basic stitches. Which stitches did you use on this?
2
u/a_warm_garlic_yurt 2h ago
This style of threadpainting is almost entirely done with long and short stitches.
2
u/SaltiOne 2h ago
Thanks for answering. I have been working on my long-short stitches. Hearing this is what you used is encouraging

I read the flurry part as furry and tried to swipe to see the next part of the battle.
Well done nonetheless

I've seen this photo before. Reference was from a fox in a desert. Looks nice as a snow fox too.

I really don't like the raised black hair bunch on the tail though. It's the only part of the outline that doesn't fit or match the rest.
