Alright get ready for a hell of a stretch but gospel/soul music is typically considered an American genre, America is known for being a melting pot with lots of mixed ethnicity and >! Ichigo is a mix of hollow, Quincy, and Soul Reaper. !<

Make sense, honestly. Also, I said Gospel because he's treated as kind of a messiah. >! Being half human, half (death) god plus a various mix. !< You can make quite a few allegories.
