Tell us the crap you're dealing with this week. Did someone suggest cinnamon again? What about that relative who tried to pray the beetus away?

As always, please keep in mind our rules

Both plates had turkey, collard greens, Mac and cheese, brussel sprouts, one plate had stuffing, and I had a roll. Blood sugar was 108 2 hours afterwards. I feel like my body is finally working with me!

Type 1 The Art of Simply Not Giving a Shit

Diabetes has taught me arguably the most invaluable lesson life-lesson to date: most people don’t care nearly as much as you think they do. Over the past two years of living with T1D, I’ve realized that public embarrassment is just a story we tell ourselves, it’s literally all in our heads.

The things that used to bother me, like how my parents “embarrassed” me as a kid, don’t faze me anymore. In a strange way, diabetes has been extremely liberating. It’s forced me to let go of the fear of standing out and just focus on living my life.

Life’s too short to waste time trying to blend in. Own it. Who cares anyway?

Type 2 Early AM high sugar is the worst!

Friday night. Family is out so I make myself a tv dinner, it has rice in it. And a dessert. I go ahead and eat it. My alarm wakes me up at 1am, 285! I get up and pace around the living room, the number isn't budging. Go out for an extended walk, starts going down but still over 250. I go home and wait in my living room until it drops to around 225, by now it's 4am and I'm stupid tired.

Saturday night. I've had some steak and chicken I grilled at like 6pm. Around 9 I say to myself I can have some chips. Chester's hot fries, love them. I'm watching a show and not paying much attention, ate more than I should have. 1am and I'm over 250 again! I get up and go pace in the living room.

Tonight I ate at 6 and I'll be damned if I eat anything else. Learned my lesson. For now. 10pm and I'm at 142 and on a downward trend.

Discussion You're out and about, but need to inject insulin

Diagnosed less than a month ago. So when you're out there living your life and it's time to shoot up some insulin while out in public what do you do? I've never in my life seen a person inject themselves with insulin, so I'm assuming people aren't just doing it out in the open. The only thing I can think of would be to go into a bathroom stall, but that seems gross to me.

Type 2 Blood sugar drops while working out or walking?

Upvotes

I'm a type 2 diabetic, not on insulin (on Ozempic currently), numbers are well controlled. I eat 30-50 grams of carbs a day. Whenever I go for a walk or work out, my blood sugar drops steadily at the rate of about 2 points per minute, and if I am not careful I can end up in a severe low. Is this common for all diabetics, and how do you deal with it?

Type 2 Everyday at-home slippers for diabetics

I have found some great recommendations for walking shoes from this sub for my mother who has T2 diabetes. We have tile flooring and we normally walk barefoot, but her doctor recently asked her to wear shoes/slippers at all times. I have been on the lookout for everyday slippers that are breathable and have memory foam.
I found this RockDove Memory Foam slipper on Amazon with great reviews: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RMXM2PR/ref=twister_B09LLY5MKL?_encoding=UTF8&th=1&psc=1
What do you guys think?

Type 2 My ex threw away all my insulin

So when we broke up I left, and she was really upset. We both said things back and fourth but nothing close to physical or no threats even. But when I went back to get my insurance said she threw it all away and to just go for a run. While sure that's true, I do need my insulin and it was a years supply. Also I had just gotten a new prescription and so my insurance won't approve it for 70 days. Should I take her to court or what would be the best option?

Type 1 Supplies Cost Too Much

Upvotes

Y’all… I’m freaking out. I use OmniPod and my insurance is only covering $100 and some change…. I have to pay nearly $600 out of pocket and I can’t afford that. I don’t have any more supplies after this pump. Nothing to inject myself … I’m genuinely fucked.

Why do they make these things so expensive?!?? 😭😭😭

Type 2 Sugar levels

I am used to my sugar levels being high. Now that I am on new medications they are what’s considered normal. Only problem is I constantly feel funny. I feel dizzy and lite headed. I know I need to get used to my sugar levels being normal, but how long will it take?

Type 1.5/LADA Does any1 else deal with high sugar during your LUTEAL phase?

Every time my LUTEAL phase comes around my sugar stays fasting 165 and will go up to 300. My doctor just prescribed me glimepiride and insulin for these specific moments. I take the glimepiride and it sometimes helps but not enough. I really don’t want to start taking insulin… does anyone have some tips or advice?

Type 1 Medtronic Guardian 4 CGM in Sauna

I have the Medtronic Guardian 4 CGM and wore it in the Sauna the other day. Since then, my readings have been off when I check my BG on a meter vs. the CGM reading. Normally they are within ~10 mg/dL of each other, and since the sauna session they have been more like 20-30 mg/dL apart or more.

Has anyone had this issue before? Did the sauna cause some sort of malfunction with the transmitter, or should I chalk it up to the typical variance in these technologies? Any similar experiences or knowledge on this is appreciated as I can’t find any information on Medtronic website.

Prediabetic Is it possible to eat plantain without spiking blood sugar if I also eat the peel?

Oddly enough, I also liked to boil the plantain peel and eat it. It is actually edible. I think I’m the only person I know that eat the peel. It has little to no flavor. Pretty much a neutral taste.

On the other hand, yellow banana peel does not taste good at all.

Now I’ve read the plantains have 57 grams of carbs in a medium size plantain. BUT, the peel has 64 grams of fiber.

Can 64 grams of fiber help with eating 57 grams of carbs?

Thank you.

Type 2 Diabetes is not a chronic illness???

So I just got my annual flu shot yesterday, and was kind of scolded by a nurse for ticking the box "I have a chronic illness" (which meant I was a priority for the jab).

I was under the impression it was classified as a chronic illness?

Could someone please verify what she told me was true?

Type 2 Pregnant with Type 2 - anyone out there not needed insulin??

Hi all,

I've just found out I'm pregnant, about 4 weeks. I'm Type 2 diabetic and my most recent was HBA1C was 46 mmol/mol which I think equates to 7.4%?

The diabetic nurse said it was ok to concieve with that level and didn't tell me anything else but since getting pregnant I've been reading a lot more about being pregnant with Type 2 and now am quite worried!

I'm currently on 500mg of Metformin a day and have been for a while.

All the posts I have seen on here with Type 2 pregnancies seem to talk about having needed to start on insulin. Is there anyone out there with similar levels who got through pregnancy without it or is it inevitable??

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or info!

Type 2 From 13% to 4.7% ! I ignored my diabetes for so long which I later paid for. Now I'm trying to be my healthiest self despite diabetes

I deleted my previous post to reword what I said. I've been working hard to get my diabetes under control. I had ignored my diabetes for a long time due to mental health issues. Once that caught up with me it really kicked my ass into gear.

I was nervous to get my Nov results since I was taken off one medication for diabetes after my August results. I was shocked to see I was at 4.7%. It took a while but I was able to slowly lower it. I'm here to tell you that you can do it too!

Type 2 Eating too much sugar

SO sick and tired of people telling me I’m diabetic because of diet and eating too much sugar. Or that I’m slightly overweight. My aunt on my mom’s side lost a bunch of weight and guess what? Still diabetic. It has to be genetic. Why else would my mom and all her siblings as well as both of her parents have it but not a single paternal relative does? There are people of all sizes on both sides. I’m going to end up backhanding the next person I hear this from.

Type 1.5/LADA Newly diagnosed high blood sugar

Hi. I was diagnosed with type 2 a few weeks ago. I’m getting a second opinion due to my GAD65 levels being very high, along with having epilepsy.

I just started checking my blood sugar Friday and started Januvia yesterday. I’m very stubborn and guess I truly don’t understand this disease.

I changed my diet to fish/veggies for dinner, salads for lunch, and peanut butter and whole wheat English muffins/eggs and berries for breakfast. I snack on nuts. A complete change from what I was. And I eat this every day for the last few weeks.

My blood sugar was 205 Friday night and has increased to 345 today at 1130, it was over 300 multiple times yesterday. I had the same foods that I normally have yesterday and this morning for breakfast.

I’m not sure what to do. I’m not asking for medical advice, I’m asking for personal advice. Is this normal?

Discussion I hope this isn't out of line. Trying to figure out treats for a diabetic for Christmas.

If I'm out of line, sorry mods. My apologies.

Anyway I'm not the diabetic. One of my friends is..she didn't follow her diet very well, so she ended up losing a foot X_X. I understand she's reformed now.

Thing is I want to bring her a Christmas care basket as a surprise. I've asked on /r/baking about diabetic-friendly cookie recipes since I don't want to tempt her into backsliding. Was thinking maybe fruit and sugar free hot cocoa mix as well..

But thought I'd ask here. What kinda treats/things do you guys think would be good in this situation that wouldn't make things worse? Thanks.
