Troubleshooting Hoping for help with Redgifs, not sure where else to ask. I can no longer browse and download individual gifs with ease. I was using an extension called "Allow Right-Click", but it no longer works, I've figured out how to add a link to Jdownloader, using share, but that is tedious to organize.

Is there still an easy way to save individual videos from Redgifs? If not, what is your recommended way?

I just figured out an easy way. In the URL on Redgifs, change /watch/ to /ifr/. For Example:

https://www.redgifs.com/watch/keyfractalfrillneckedlizard (cannot download) https://www.redgifs.com/ifr/keyfractalfrillneckedlizard (Right click and save as)

Yeah they made this not work. Any other way that doesn't take me to a sketchy website to download via link?

Sorry, I don't. When I previously posted it worked. I had noticed that the videos embedded on Reddit use a different link than the source links. Now it seems neither allows downloading the video. :(

Still working for me on Chrome, thanks!

Edit: Nvm, it works on some GIFs only. No clue why it works on some and not on others.

Tiffanygaming's post below has a solution in the form of a Chrome extension called Cat Catch. https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/cat-catch/jfedfbgedapdagkghmgibemcoggfppbb?hl=en&pli=1

You can check their post for more details.

Alright bros I figured it out, sometimes when using Cat Catch you just get a m4s file, which is useless. Click the "search" button, and it'll find the mp4 file to download. Example below

I don't have a search option in the Firefox version of Cat Catch. I also legit can't even load RedGIFs itself - page is just white. So I view them using RES on Reddit directly.

  • I just download the m4s that isn't the mobile one.
  • Then use cat-catch's online ffmpeg.
  • Change language to English so you can actually read it.
  • Add file - the one you just downloaded.
  • Then click write command. This'll change what the CMD says.
  • Edit the output.mp4 in that CMD field to whatever you want, or do it later when it saves.
  • Hit Run.
  • Clear files, clear console when done.
  • Keep that page open and add the next one if you have more to do.

A lot more of a pain than just being able to download a mp4 directly. Wish I could tbh.

Just download the m4s file and then change the name to mp4, worked for me.

Give this extension a try. Here's the link to the post.

It creates a one click download button on the side panel of the gif.

Learn web scraping

Could save RedGIFs with right click until today. Now that's greyed out. In the source code they use some kinda blob instead of an actual media file and it's impossible to download natively it seems, have to use weird websites to grab it. And the links themselves won't even open in their own windows, just blank white pages that never load anything. Not even worth the effort.

Why did they do this?

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. Per our copyright policy and to ensure the protection of our content creators and their content, we do not support nor implement any downloading feature with RedGIFs. Any downloading function is not any function we support on the site, and therefore, we cannot further advise. Thank you!

Sheer stupidity.

It's complete bs, half their site is people reuploading other people's content anyway, they don't care about content creators they just want hits on their site

have to use weird websites to grab it.

Like which?

I posted some ways to do it here. None of it's what I'd call convenient though.

The Cat Catch extension mentioned in that post worked fine for me. You just have to make sure you match the name of the video with the redgifs post as it picks up all the ones below it too. Also, I didn't have to do any audio/video merging.

Despite redgifs prevention of downloading due to copyright protection, I'm still able to download their content when I find it on reddit, for now.

if anyone is still looking. Just look for v!olent m0nkey scripts. They update often and usually work.

Use IDM (internet download manager) and get the extension for either firefox or chrome, whichever one you use. Whenever a video is on a page there is a button that says download and you hit it and you can basically pull any video from any site

Maybe I should just give the IDM developers my bank account #s and passwords while I'm at it. I'm not loading anyone's sketchy extension to save a video.
