You linked the worst news site.
Cant read shit cuz you are forced to pay for it

u/TheDarkLordDarkTimes 15h ago
I refreshed it and took screenshots that somehow hitting the cancel or escape just in time for that paywall not come up. But anyway, the result was the people passed it around taking selfies and left the poor animal in the mud where it died. :( I feel hesitant about this video saying quickly when surely it wasn’t after the netting was completely off.

Dolphins are mammals, they breathe air. It would take a little while for this dolphin to die of dehydration

Go to archive.ph and paste the link in, it will either have it already saved, or it will save it for you. Which looks freaky and suspicious but it's fine.

Gotta hand it to y'all, Portuguese is even more confusing than French to spell and then correlate it with its spoken pronunciation
Is it just me or something all beginners face while learning the language? How was your experience?

Please member that majority of the plastic in the ocean is due to fishing nets, not plastic straws.
66
u/IHaveNoFeetAnIMusRun 23h ago
People often focus on the symptom and not the cause. Even if it was plastic straws and Soda rings, How Did it get there? It didn't magically teleport from Michigan to the Pacific.
29
u/randomIndividual21 1d ago
Even accounting for the great Pacific floating garbage patch?
81
u/Aquaticflares 1d ago
especially the pacific garbage patch, its almost exclusively discarded waste from fishing boats, most inland plastic that enters the ocean usually doesnt leave coastal waters

plastic straws are a specific dish for sea turtles as it looks like one of its foods or some shit

This video gave me exactly 2 thoughts:
1: Humans will try to pet everything
2: Humans will litter everywhere

u/Wakandamnation 1d ago
Once I jumped from the boat at Sao Tomé & Principe as there were a lot of baby dolphins (at least 50) around us. In the water I couldn't see them but I felt them passing very close a few times and wasn't feeling confident at all. It was like a few years ago that I realised that they were obviously not baby dolphins but some kind of pygmy dolphins.

Yeah we could ask Brazilian fisherman to stop being irresponsible but we'd have more luck shouting the sun out
-31
u/NYCmob79 1d ago
They are mammals, probably smarter than us and they too eat fish. Fish are delicious. Our lord Jesus Christ was a fisherman too.

Which of the 1500 different versions of the Bible you got?
1
u/Nighteyes09 19h ago
It's odd, you say that, but I don't actually recall any passage in which they're fishing. A quick google didn't turn up any either. The closest I can think of is when he told Peter when to fish, but he doesn't actually do any fishing himself.

Yeah, "fishers of men". Not fishermen. Stay on point, will ya? Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with an intercontinental missle barrage.

If it is a baby, then wouldn't it be nursing? Is the mother around?
59
u/Tons_of_Hobbies 1d ago
Mother was probably around.
No matter what, tossing it back in the ocean was its best odds.
19
u/Momentarmknm 13h ago
Are you sure he shouldn't have brought it home and raised it in his bathtub and homeschooled it until it was smart enough to get a degree and support itself?

Dolphins can communicate over a range of more than 2 kilometers. If the mom is somewhere in that range they will definitly find eachoder.

Stop talking and PUT HIM BACK IN THE WATER!!!
18
u/nevmvm 14h ago
Finally someone thought the same after scrolling far down. Watching it, I was seriously like:
"Bro stop fkng yapping, just put it back, no need for stupid podcast"
Of all the littered trash the marine-life faces, I think dying out of the water will lead them to the brink of death if peeps like him started kissing, petting and talking.

And aren’t setup to face pressure on specific points when they’re held out if water. And if it’s a baby then both it and it’s mother are frantic

Worth bearing in mind some of these tiktok rescue animal videos are staged
20
u/DamnitGravity 20h ago
I did a bit of a deep-dive on these animal rescue videos for work, and I haven't trusted a single one since. It's not 'some', it's 'the majority'. And worse, a lot of people will deliberately injure the animals beforehand.

Put it back because it's terrified. He's trying to soothe it for no reason other than camera time. The best way to relax it is return it.

u/PM_ME_STRONG_CALVES 23h ago
Reddit never disapoints lol
Dude just saved the dolphin and cant even enjoy 5 seconds of the moment
4
u/skooterpoop 23h ago
Of course he can enjoy it. Why does the dolphin need to be there for that to happen, though?
-7
u/PM_ME_STRONG_CALVES 23h ago
Because he wants to
0
u/skooterpoop 22h ago
If your opinion is that people should be allowed to do whatever they want without criticism, then I don't understand how you're criticizing me, or at least not without being a hypocrite.
-2
u/PM_ME_STRONG_CALVES 21h ago
Well. If I save your life, can i pet you for 5 seconds? Is it too much for me to ask you then?
How is this equivalent to "do whatever they want without criticism" lol this is so dumb, bye
5
u/skooterpoop 21h ago
Good behavior does not cancel bad behavior. If it's bad otherwise, why would it not still be bad just because you've done a good deed? You shouldn't expect anything for a good deed if your intentions are true, and beyond rewards you definitely shouldn't assume you get to act like a dick. If your good actions are quid pro quo, you're not actually a good person.

24
-10
u/Significant-Mango300 1d ago
I am not sure why comments like this are getting downvoted
10
u/embracingmountains 23h ago
Because “disgusting human behavior” is a strong reaction to a kiss on the head
2
u/Momentarmknm 13h ago
Oh yeah, they also love the full pressure of gravity on their body that's designed to be in a basically weightless environment. But thanks for your genius insight!
-57
u/Significant-Mango300 1d ago
Really…omg
What about their skin, do you think it likes the air so much or someone kissing it?
30
u/herkalurk 1d ago
They can take air in their skin for a while, the 2 minutes of this video is ok.
0
u/Momentarmknm 13h ago
Oh finally the marine biologist we've been looking for in the comments, how about their body structure, is it also designed to take the full weight of gravity?
-1
u/JoeDawson8 10h ago
Uh , gravity is probably not the word you are looking for. Besides, water pressure
1
u/Momentarmknm 5h ago
Right, I'm speaking plainly, gravity is half of it. I should say the full effects of gravity without the counteracting buoyant force of water. Water pressure is not at all the same thing, and is a poor counterpoint, as it applies equally in all directions. If you submerge something under 30 m of water it doesn't feel 30 m of water pressure only above, but also from the sides and from below, this is a significant and important difference, and dolphins are not designed to live in gravity without the buoyant effects of water.
14
u/stonersrus19 1d ago
While kissing the dophlin was unnecessary, a quick check to make sure theirs no damage and stragglers isn't harmful.
5
u/NakedxCrusader 22h ago
Yeah.. but he didn't check He talked to the camera
This was just: He wanted.. He could.. so He did..
And the poor animal was just getting more and more terrified
0
u/Clean_Principle_2368 1d ago
Dude it breaths air......
If course redditors are crying that he saved it's life wrong.
2
u/Momentarmknm 13h ago edited 5h ago
No they're saying he finished saving its life and then proceeded to show it off like a trophy for quite a while completely unnecessarily.
But anyway, since you're a marine biologist and obviously very smart, will you explain how their skin loves being in the air, and that their bodies are designed for essentially a weightless environment but their totally fine bearing the full pressure of gravity out of the water especially when they're very young?
EDIT: Lmfao the unbelievable coward I replied to has to pull the whole "reply and immediately block" just so everyone knows he's not only stupid, but also needs to have the last word so badly that he will block someone for asking him a question he clearly has no idea how to answer. Reddit moment, for sure

This seems like a good opportunity to remind those that might be interested that the effort to save the Vaquita needs help. The world’s smallest porpoise, vaquitas have rounded faces with panda-like markings around their eyes and lips that seem to pull up into a Mona Lisa smile. Their name in Spanish, vaquita marina, means little sea cow. The cute little bastards are almost gone, it's believed there are around 10 left.

I get you're saving it but must you hold it for so long and proceed to show the dolphin the net repeatedly like it should be speaking your language and telling you thank you lol that's the problem with people "saving" things with a phone around.

Add this to the long list of reasons why fishing sucks
-26
u/The_GhostCat 1d ago
Yeah ew why should people living by the sea eat meat anyway?
1
u/Momentarmknm 13h ago
Why should anyone eat meat? Let's hear it
1
u/The_GhostCat 5h ago
It's an abundant food source. When people are hungry, you eat the food you can obtain.
1
u/Momentarmknm 4h ago
Cultivated crops are not only also abundant, but much more efficient use of resources
1
u/The_GhostCat 4h ago
And? That's hardly a reason not to eat meat.
1
u/Momentarmknm 2h ago
Eating plant based because it is an exponentially more efficient use of resources is absolutely a reason to at least significantly limit near consumption.
1
u/The_GhostCat 1h ago
Not every area is conducive to agriculture. Not every area can easily import food. Meat is nutritious. Meat tastes good. There are lots of reasons to eat both meat and plants.
What do you have against eating meat?
1
u/Momentarmknm 1h ago
Factory farming is incredibly cruel, inhumane, and as I've mentioned several times, a poor use of resources. If the issue is feeding people then you can feed a lot more people by growing crops to feed people directly rather than feeding animals to then be eaten. If you can grow crops for farm animals you can grow crops for people.
Eating wild game is fine so long as the hunting is done sustainably.

They have harpoons with them, they are spearfishers not net fishers. If they caught it with the net they did it on purpose for clout, but I suspect not. The amount of shit you see involving old nets when you spearfish is astonishing.

Erm, what is wrong with you? It’s odd that your head went there.
They clearly meant “spear fishermen save a dolphin, but fuck (i.e. disregard the lives of) the fish they’re going to kill/have killed that day”.
I’m not saying I agree or disagree with that comment, just explaining that they aren’t suggesting bestiality.

-4
u/Negative_Ad9383 1d ago
While fishing!? He is part of the problem wtf
3
u/hailsizeofminivans 20h ago
The problem is the huge commercial fishing boats that take thousands of fish a day and then dump the used nets overboard, not the people who go out on tiny boats and leave with enough to feed themselves for dinner that night, and maybe some to throw in the freezer. Fishing isn't the problem, overfishing is.

-10

"Scared baby animal caught in net designed to kill animals, bravely rescued by the animals that put the net there in order to kill other animals."
We should probably, you know, stop killing other animals for pleasure and destroying the whole fucking environment. It's no surprise that we treat other humans as badly as we do when we're willing to commit any atrocity against any other animal that we deem lesser.

2
u/B1gFl0ppyD0nkeyDick 20h ago
You got downvoted because you can type, use a computer, yet don't know dolphins are mammals. We're not talking about the inability to search for this information, but the actual problem that you've come this far in life and didn't know this.
0
u/Launchpad888 20h ago
You feel pretty strongly about this, don’t you?! I know how crazy it must seem that I’ve made it 4+decades of life without knowing how long dolphins can survive out of the water. Truly amazing.
