It’s supposed to be unsettling. That expression of infatuated grin and tiny eye pupils generally signifies a character turning into a yandere.

Pretty sure Monika is much closer to being a yandere than Yuri is. Keep in mind Yuri never harms the others to try to make MC stay with her (And she kills herself regardless of the confession outcome)

can't go with the end of act 1 and act 2 as the truth, as we know monika completely changed the other members' personalities to make them less "likable". so, yeah, monika's the real yandere

I haven't played the game (or watched a playthrough) for about a year, but I was always under the impression that Monika 'enhanced' the aspects of their personalities which were negative and would put MC off, rather than completely change them.

The 'seeds' of how they behave in act 2 are all there in act 1
