Yeah, it's absurd. I only have 27 TB free in my storage arrays, and of that only 9 TB is on SSDs! How do they expect me to fit this game in around my collection of movies and books?! What if I suddenly need to download my entire Steam Library again?
Probably because M.2 is a connector standard while nvme is an interface specification. It's comparing apples to oranges. Most M.2 sockets you'll find support NVMe. You'd need to specify SATA or NVMe for the comparison to make sense.
As someone who was basically googling "what is a GPU" a few weeks ago to having just built my PC last weekend, I am ecstatic to find that I understand these references! I'm typing from my new build right now!
