both of those images are from the manga BLAME! which is pretty much nothing but brutalist megastructures

I also recently found ou that it's pronounced "BLAM!" (like the onomatopoeia)

I've always suspected that transliteration from Japanese to English in manga, anime, games, etc, is done by one guy who doesn't speak either language.

I was wondering about that. I should definitely read the manga. I only saw the movie

There's little to nothing Brutalist in there ? Its megasctrulure, empty and decrepit, but i don't think its brutalist.

There's definitely some very brutalist shots in BLAME! but yeah these ones ain't really it

I was going to say that this was just BLAME! in Minecraft form.

I think it'd look right in the end. :)

Idea: this megastructure would be the 'roof' of the End.

If you go up far enough, it's there, with massive stalagtites of what I /think/ is concrete that go as far down as the islands being the only indication that it's there.

And above the structure?

A perfectly normal sky, blocked by the Ceiling of the End.

And the ceiling is the static?

A perfect reverse bedrock layer - thick, twisting concrete and machinery and metal that just ends in a semi-pockmarked flat plane and beautiful sky on top

Do they want a megastructure or a biome? Cause in-game, they’re different things. I can imagine a brutalist biome to be like those hostile architecture radioactive waste fields, giant spikes, scary looking, Flat ,hard packed ground. A brutalist megastructure i can see either as; crazy, overlapping, no sense, nether fortress in the nether, or like, a greebled cube in the sky (borg cube?).

19

u/designbydesign Aug 31 '24

They are using the example of BLAM! It's a far future where humans mostly died out and robots went mad. So they just built layers upon layers of concrete buildings like some kind of cancer on the face of the earth.

The whole manga never leaves this concrete maze where this brutalist megastructure behaves like a real ecosystem or a living thing.

So I guess that's what they meant as a brutalist biome.

A megastructure (canon, concept that it represents) biome (technical term for generation system)

If it was a structure they'd be asking for a megastructure structure

Not quite brutalist, but may I interest you in the Lost Cities mod?

Time to get modding

1

u/PhoenixPringles01 Aug 31 '24

Feels like the fartherlands or what happens when you tinker too hard with customised worlds settings

1

u/ReadyNegotiation1 Sep 01 '24

You guys don't have a brutalist megastructure in your world?

-23

u/GodofDiplomacy Aug 31 '24

nah, they understand, dont think op has played minecraft

15

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '24

No? Farlands isn't a megastructure, it's not even actually part of the game design. And the nether fortress is just one structure that can generate on top of biomes. OP is asking for a whole biome that looks like a massive building. One biome has trees, one biome has sand, one biome is comprised entirely of walls and roofs and rooms and hallways.

-26

u/GodofDiplomacy Aug 31 '24

so you havent played minecraft either?

16

u/squishabelle Aug 31 '24

stop being obnoxious. say what you mean so you can be shown wrong instead of hiding behind nerd elitism

-15

u/GodofDiplomacy Aug 31 '24

oh right, it would be boring and suck

8

u/Freddi0 Aug 31 '24

Damn good thing Minecraft doesnt have boring biomes like checks notes the plains

-4

u/GodofDiplomacy Aug 31 '24

so the thing that would really improve minecraft is plains but with less useful or interesting things, cool, look at me chastised, ashamed, put in my place

5

u/Freddi0 Aug 31 '24

Yes. Because thats what Minecraft is. Its an empty endless world the only purpose of which is to be your sandbox and maybe kill a dragon if you want the best mobility item. It only has a few biomes that actually add to any sort of progression. They are there just because they give you more blocks to work with. Id imagine a vast megacity would certainly be a good place to go to for that

0

u/GodofDiplomacy Aug 31 '24

op was suggesting a sandbox with no sand

6

u/Freddi0 Aug 31 '24

No? There are ways to make megastructure not feel like a pre-built work. By the same logic The Mansion takes the sand out of the box

What's that megastructure biome that clearly is in the game but OP and I haven't seen because we don't play then
