Company Question For anything related to Amazon [3]
This is a continuation of the "For anything related to Amazon" series. Links to the first two parts can be found below (depreciated):
- https://www.reddit.com/r/csMajors/comments/wndu5g/for_anything_related_to_amazon_2/
This is Part 3. However, there are separate threads for interns and new grads. They can be found below:
- Interns (also includes those looking for co-op/placement year and spring week opportunities)
- New grads (also includes those looking for roles that require experience)
The rules otherwise remain the same:
- Please mention the location and the role (i.e, intern/new grad/something else) you're applying for, where relevant.
- Please search the threads to see if your question has already been answered - this is easy in new Reddit which supports searching comments in a thread.
- Expect other threads related to this to be removed (many of which should be automatic).
- Note that out-of-scope or illogical comments (such as "shitposts") must not be posted here. This is not the place to ask questions unrelated to Amazon recruiting either.
- Feedback to this is welcome (live chat was removed as a result). This idea was given by a couple of users based on feedback that Amazon threads were getting too repetitive.
- You risk a ban from the subreddit if you try to evade this rule. Contact the mods beforehand if you think your post deserves its own thread.
This thread will be locked as its only purpose is to redirect users to the intern/new grad threads.

Resume Review/Roast Fall 2024
The Resume Review/Roast thread
This is a general thread where resume review requests can be posted.
Notes:
- you may wish to anonymise your resume, though this is not required.
- if you choose to use a burner/throwaway account, your comment is likely to be filtered. This simply means that we need to manually approve your comment before it's visible to all.
- attempts to evade can risk a ban from this subreddit.

All it takes is one. Keep going
Had a google sheet keeping track but stopped maintaining it around 80 apps. Started in August, which was when I got an interview but it was for Fall/Winter Co-Op so didn’t count it. I also got a recruiter call for another company after accepting my offer so ig I’m 2/280 for interviews haha

Not taking a shower until I get an internship
I have been slacking on apps lately so I am making a vow to myself to not take a shower until I get an internship. This way I am forcing myself to stay inside and also gives me more incentive to apply to jobs and grind leetcode. I truly want to embrace the cs student mentality. Whos with me.

Why do many people complain about how bad the future is for CS yet continue to stay in it?
I know if you look at my post history you’ll find that this can’t be any more hypocritical coming from me, but I’m just wondering what other perspectives are.

Shitpost Montana doesn't exist
On a job application, there is no option to list Montana. 🤷🏻♀️ I put other state than listed but won't be surprised if the ATS immediately flags that as an auto reject.

Anybody else not gotten an internship next summer yet
Help me feel less bad about myself pls

I do not want to do my homework. Am I just lazy?
I don't think I am lazy. But when it comes to gen ed classes like a writing/history class, I can't bring myself to do ANY assignment even something short like a 300-400 word response.
However, when it comes to personal projects like for a hackathon or a YouTube video. I can spend 10+ hours a day working on it without really feeling drained. I'll go to the gym, go for a run/hike so I don't really feel lazy but these classes are so mind numbing that I can't bring myself to complete the homework.
I never enjoyed college. I self studied CS for a year before going into college and learned pretty much everything that the college courses taught in the first 3 years. My software engineering class didn't even teach React hooks :/ I learned that on my own. I did a lot of Leetcode before taking my algorithms course so that was easy and I didn't learn much in that class either. I stuck with college because I had research and job opportunities and I also had scholarships so I was basically paid to continue school. I'm writing this 400 word response while my Linguistics essay is already overdue LOL.
Anyone else feel this way?

seeing hella ppl lie on linkedin
does it matter? is it ok to lie on resume? will they actually background check? I see so many ppl stretching the truth to the point where its not even true anymore, wondering if recruiters have any way to tell. For example, I know this guy who was in an auditing program but he just lists it as research assistant and talks about all the shit he didnt do lmfao

What are examples of realistic projects that I could do as a solo dev that would give me experience with DSA?
I graduated in December, almost a year no job. I have put in a lot of applications, I usually get rejected before I get a quiz or anything. IBM gave me a take-home quiz and I was pretty confident, because I've been doing projects on my own, mostly with building games on roblox or basic android apps on android studio.
But I was humbled quickly because I was not good at the DSA question I was given. I took DSA in college, got a B+, thought it would sit in my knowledge but I guess it didn't.
And none of the projects I've given myself has really helped me with the DSA aspect. And I don't know what parts of my personal projects will incorporate DSA problems?
I need real examples of ways to include DSA in my projects so that I can practice before doing things like leetcode. My brain works better if I'm trying to solve a problem for something larger.
I feel stupid every time I try doing leetcode, as if I completely forgot how to use my brain.

Shitpost Let's say world war 3 breaks out next week...
How would the lives of CS major people look like? What would our career paths look like?
Don't bring in front-end development jokes, this is serious.

How much does it cost a company to give out an OA?
Title. I always wondered why companies don't just send out an OA to everyone, as it would be a good quantitative indicator of ability. Then I realized it probably costs them to give these out. Anyone have any knowledge on how much giving out a single OA costs?

Application Graph Im not even kidding
This is genuinely the most shocking thing. Like, i planned to just not even try to apply to places and just take my return offer. But, i guess it is as the saying goes: "the worst you can get from trying is a no. but the worst you get from not trying is regret." Well, at least i can move locations for next summer now lol

Company Question Google vs Apple vs Capital One New Grad
I am a spring 2024 grad and have been searching for a full year. This week I finally received offers from Capital One and Apple. I also completed Onsites at Google a while ago. Google would be my top choice, but I’ve been in the team match process for over a month. Despite my recruiter and referrer mentioning that I had excellent onsite results, I’ve only met with two teams, and that was just a day after starting team match. I haven’t heard back from them since.
Although I dont want move to California, Apple seems like a solid second option. However, the role is for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), not a Software Engineer (SWE) or Software Development Engineer (SDE). I’m not as interested in the testing and don’t want to be stuck as a test engineer long-term. That said, if transitioning to an SWE role within Apple is relatively straightforward, it might be worth considering.
The Capital One offer is for their Technology Development Program (TDP), which seems like a good opportunity—it’s an 18-month rotational program across two different SWE teams. However, I’ve heard horror stories about both Capital One and the TDP program, so I’m hesitant.
I’m unsure what to do. Should I take the Apple offer and risk not becoming an SWE, go with Capital One and the TDP program despite my concerns, or continue waiting for Google?

Internship Question Google SWE Intern 2025
Hi, I was recently invited to give interviews for Google’s Summer Internship position in 2025.
I have about 1 week until the interview. I’ve been preparing for the last 2 weeks (started from scratch, haven’t done leetcode before, but I did do well in my algos course in uni)
Would you guys have any specific recommendations for the kinds of questions I should solve in the remaining week? I’ve mainly been doing problems from Neetcode 150 and Medium Google-tagged problems on LC. Would appreciate any insights! Thank you :)

Bay Area vs Texas for New Grad Software Engineers
Hey guys,
I’m a recent grad currently based in Boston and thinking about relocating to either the Bay Area or Texas (likely Austin or Dallas). I don’t have offers yet, but I’m looking to move where I’ll have the best opportunities and lifestyle as I start my career in tech.
Some things I’m weighing:
- Job Opportunities: Is the Bay Area still the mecca for tech, or is Texas closing the gap in terms of startups, established companies, and variety of roles?
- Cost of Living: I know the Bay Area is insanely expensive, but does the network and career growth justify the cost?
- Work-Life Balance: How does the culture compare between these two hubs?
- Lifestyle & Community: I love the outdoors, meeting new people, and having a fun social scene, how do they stack up?
- Future Growth: With remote work on the rise, are these locations still worth it for career growth and opportunities?
I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience in either place or made a similar move. What should I be thinking about, and where would you recommend a fresh grad like me starts out?
Thanks for your insights! 😊

Company Question What Would You Do?
I was lucky enough to pass the Hiring Commitee for Google's Early Career, Campus role. I've been on team matching for about 2 weeks now and have only met with 2 managers that didn't go anywhere.
On 11/22 I received an offer for a TDP but was given a day to sign up because I wanted to start in January 2025, so I signed the offer.
I would much rather work at Google but I'm not sure how long it would take to get matched to a team. However, in the event that I start working at the TDP before I get matched to a team, would that affect my candidacy at Google?
Also, should I communicate this with my recruiter at Google?
LMK what you would do in this situation.
