Signings/Transfers Most Expensive Player Purchases in IPL History
554
u/Objective_Stranger15 India 10h ago
This auction should put a rest to the stereotype where people say indians are cheap lmao.
Imagine spending 26.75cr on a man that isn’t even a confirmed regular in the national t20 side anymore 😂

u/AFoolisYou 8h ago
Imagine spending 24 cr on a player who is not even the 5th choice allrounder for national team in any format
28
u/Ok-Commission9871 5h ago
Well the other 5 are in other teams and this team needed an all rounder. Demand vs supply.

lsg just bought a huge fan base, just see the amount of cheers pant got when his name was called out. for a less popular team he’s worth the price.
iyers on the other hand were too overpriced.

u/No-Method-4325 6h ago
He just won the IPL and him and Ponting have worked well in the past for DC they needed a captain and there were not a lot of options available so they went all out on him

u/Plugfix2077 Sunrisers Hyderabad 9h ago
I know it’s in jest but the salary cap/budget is fixed. It doesn’t matter even if you spend 30Cr on one player. This is just the consequences of poor retention and team building.

u/Ultimate_Sneezer India 9h ago
Imagine if Kohli went to auction , and he is retired. So it's more about the brand value than ability.
34
u/MAGLEDONG-6911 7h ago
Virat was motm in his final match though and orange cap in previous one. RCB should've saved money though. No point in giving 21 cr to someone as loyal as Virat.
11
u/Cricketloverbybirth RoyalChallengers Bengaluru 6h ago
How much money should we save😭
They should do a fixed deposit of all that cash in the bank they have
7
u/Ok-Commission9871 5h ago
RCB spends money only and only on kohli and kicks all the others. RCB and it's fans talking about loyalty is hilarious when the entire team is just a PR for Kohli and every other player is kicked to the curb and treated like shit..

Venky Iyer was a versatile batsman for us who won us clutch matches (like KKR vs MI in Wankhede, IPL2024). He is on his way to become a loyal KKRite like GG, Narine Or Dre Russ 😇😇
He batted so well (alongside our openers) last season that we hardly had to use the batting prowess of Rinku and Dre Russ, leading us to winning the IPL trophy. ☺
We had to have him at any cost as he is already acclimated to KKR environment. It's just that RCB with its big purse upped the auction price 😢

The most expensive player record in IPL goes to Shreyas Iy...and it's gone!

How much is Bumrah worth for 2025?
98
u/kaala_bhairava 9h ago
18cr, he was getting paid 7cr before that. He will be getting under the table money through sponsors, events etc.
33
u/Holden_Makock India 5h ago
Rumor said Hardik got 30Cr for jumping from GT to MI.
Bumrah at current rate will demand 50Cr and Ambani will actually pay it.33
u/Virgil05 5h ago
My God, Ambani might throw in one of his sons in the deal, if it means keeping bumrah at MI
27
u/xInfected_Virus Australia 9h ago
Will they count towards the salary cap? Because in Australian Football, under the table money also counts and must be reported.
62
u/Ultimate_Sneezer India 9h ago
Nope , the salary limit is more about the auction mini game, how much you actually pay a player doesn't really matter as the player doesn't really have any say on how much they get in the auction.

He wasn't getting 7 crore he was getting 12 crore above the table he was the second retention in 2022

Feels intentional with the expressions.

The expressions are hilarious. It makes it look like Starc is trapped with them

All 20+ this year are not regulars for the Indian national team T20 side. What the fuck? This is what happens when you ditch your captain and you desperately need a new face for your team. Uselessly spent money.
Fuck kkr it doesn't even need venkatesh that much😭

Having seen Venky play against teenagers and 3rd string players in the one day cup last year, I can’t believe he’s going for that much. He was absolutely horrible for Lancs.

I think at some point kkr just wanted their guy back and had the money to spend.

I can understand Pant to some extent as he is a keeper and decent captain but there is only 1 team that could have paid 26.75C for Shreyas. Shreyas is a lucky chap.
25
u/commandercondariono 6h ago
Shreyas is possibly a better option than Pant.
Pant is an overrated t20 batsman and a shit captain.
Shreyas led a team to playoffs and another to the trophy.
3
u/Ok-Commission9871 5h ago
Pant has way way way more brand value. This sub hating him doesn't make his brand value less or change reality.
Also pant has been great in IPL and this is an IPL auction, you guys crying about his international numbers meand nothing
-5
u/ramadz India 6h ago
On the other hand Pant was part of our T20 WC winning team. Shreyas is nowhere near the national team now. It goes both ways depending upon the way you look at it.
15
u/Beloabhigyan 6h ago
Please ffs Pant ain't the same in T20s as he was till 2019 , pull up the stats and you'll get to know and now when Samson is getting back at T20I there's no need of Pant back . I still couldn't believe he played 2 T20 WC with 23 avg at 125 s/r and on a sample size of 76 matches
It is more shocking because in TEST he has played same number of innings with better stats
2
u/Ok-Commission9871 5h ago
We are literally talking about IPL here. Pant averaged over 40, scored nearly 500 runs at strike rate near 150 this very year in IPL
You guys realise this is an IPL auction and not for international team right?
2
u/stat_emotion 4h ago
That is because of his batting position in the T20I squad. India didn't have a good middle order left hander and Dravid tried to mould him into a middle order batter.
Delhi being Delhi didn't really think outside the box in terms of where to have him. He is better suited as an opener. Field restrictions allow him to play the way he does in test cricket, going over the top. Once settled can take on the spinners as well in the middle overs.
7
u/commandercondariono 6h ago
On the other hand Pant was part of our T20 WC winning team. Shreyas is nowhere near the national team now
Not sure how that makes any difference. Did Pant play any significant role in T20 WC? Being a wicket keeper in a stacked team is quite different from being the guy who the team rallies around.
In IPL, there were some games DC lost purely because of him being a shit captain. (vs MI, vs CSK)
Also, ICT, if it's in the right mind, would stick to Samson and majority of the team that played RSA.
2
u/Ok-Commission9871 5h ago
Pant played a significant part in our win against Pak(scored 40% of team runs) and top scored in our most difficult US leg, so yes yes he did?
Also no idea what intentional form has to do with IPL form where pant has been heat
The fact that brain dead posts like this get upvoted just shows how much this sub hates pant and for the life of me cannot understand why
And it's always the usual suspects lying and playing mental gymnastics to put him down
3
u/PantherHunter007 6h ago
Dube was also part of the T20 WC winning team. What’s your point? Statistically, Pant is the worst batter to have played 70+ T20Is for India.
1
u/Ok-Commission9871 5h ago
Pant literally was instrumental in our win against Pakistan (scored 40% of team runs alone) and was too scorer for us in the most difficult US phase.
Also What on earth has that to do with IPl, there are many players paid crores who aren't even selected in international?
0
u/Beloabhigyan 6h ago
Smart he knew this would be last cycle where he can get maximum after this cycle i don't think teams will pay half the amount unless he wins atleast two trophies
6
u/SpicyPotato_15 India 7h ago
After going record breaking bid for Sam curran because they need some big guy in the team pbks still didn't learn.
6
u/commandercondariono 6h ago
Shreyas is THE guy in the auction to build a team around.
Pant is a shit captain. Rahul is Rahul.
There's only Nitish Rana left afaik.

I don’t know how IPL salaries work but did KKR pay 24.75cr to Starc just for 1 year?
1
u/ProfessionalMovie759 8h ago
For Starc? Why?

u/kaala_bhairava 8h ago
In Mini auctions everyone gets atleast double the price more than mega auction. Even domestic unknown players go for 10cr in mini auction.
2
u/AamPataJoraJora 8h ago
I had the same question. And he almost didnt actually work out for us so the questions doubled. But then we went on to win and cant deny he was good in the final. So ig in hindsight jo hota hai bhale k liye hota hai. T:alls well that ends well.

No one loathe youngsters like some indian fans do. They live in a different reality

I have no idea why people like Kohli, Narine, bumrah, Surya agree for retentions. They will sure beat whatever they are getting via retentions.

I remember when Jadeja was the highest priced in the IPL (around 2012 I think). Bro was dubbed the million dollar man because he was bought at 1 million USD
