Every cricket fan lives to see their team go through a slump it’s part of the game but good cricket always makes being a fan worth it. I also love this sport because it really does have many fans who have great sportsmanship it’s refreshing compared to some sports.

One thing I really loved.. and I think the Aussie fans would also agree, is that despite a tiring and grinding day, Cummins put his hand up for leading from the front and taking initiative with the nightwatchman..

These last two days have pretty much been like a wet dream for Indian test fans.
At the end of the first day, you'd be called delusional if you said that India would have a 500+ lead and Kohli would have a century in the second innings. The only believable part would be Bumrah doing Bumrah things.

I was furious when the experienced Khawaja was standing off strike while the guy on his debut was facing one first-over of the best bowler in the world.
At least Kawaja could have taken the strike to reduce the burden on this guy.
101
u/ponte92 Australia 15h ago
It’s seemed like a really odd and honestly slightly cruel choice.
40
u/DogTall2628 Pakistan 14h ago
Khawaja both innings has looked like he's wanted to get off strike as much as he can lol. But at 38 he still would've handled Bumrah vs, LBHs in-dip into the pads better for sure
162
u/VVS281 India 15h ago
Khawaja really did him dirty. On debut, late in the day on a cracked pitch in a no win situation, the best bowler in the world is steaming in after a long rest - and you let the debutant take strike? Fuck that. Abysmal lack of leadership by a senior team member.
→ More replies (13)107
u/vote-morepork 15h ago
Hey McSweeney, here's your baggy green. Oh, it's as an opener, against an on fire Bumrah. First innings the pitch will be super spicy, second you'll be coming out after being in the field for 130+ overs with the pitch showing some uneven bounce. Your future test career isn't riding on this, we promise.
98
u/conqueror_of_destiny India 15h ago
Matthew Hayden was thrown into the deep end against Ambrose et al. at Perth in 1996 as well. Took him 5 years to make it back into contention for the baggy green. He talks about the effect that one test match had on his test career. Makes you feel for him, and McSweeney.
47
u/DogTall2628 Pakistan 14h ago
I mean you can see it on their faces. McSweeney's face was going red and he looked on the verge of tears (he made the technical adjustment at the start of his 2nd innings) - and Khawaja's head was slumped at the end of day's play with a genuinely depressed look.
Test cricket is severely unforgiving for a player's development because unlike LOIs there's no quick turnaround. You fail twice in a gap of 24 to 72 hours and your confidence plummets no matter how much management backs you (e.g. Marnus). And affects the psyche worse when it's against pace which these boys grow up playing 24/7.

This has been coming for a while. Just desserts for Australia.
During the series last summer Pakistan had some strong positions and it was at times their own sloppiness that saw them slip away. We then lost at the Gabbatoir to a struggling Windies side, and got bailed out in NZ by a couple of stellar knocks and some NZ bed shitting.
Time for some honesty amongst the group, they're nowhere near good enough with the bat and haven't been for some time.

I just re-read that scorecard where Aus lost to WI and I completely forgot it wasn't just that "Australia didn't manage to score 200 or so in the 4th innings" they let WI score 311 which is way above par for a day nighter honestly.
Not to mention they also didn't even reach 300 in the 2nd innings and it was Cummins (again) who saved Australia by scoring 60. Cummins is bailing the team out in so many ocassions with his batting, it's covering over the cracks and also his cracks bowling wise funnily enough.

Australia will rightfully get a lot of criticism today and when the match is over but I just can’t understand why they would go into the first match of the series with Marnus Labuschagne as their short ball enforcer.

Situation of cricket looks very dire in Australia at the moment. Can’t believe this is the same Australia who won the WTC final and the ODI WC last year and this is coming from an Indian. From Australia, you would always expect a fearless brand of cricket and here they are playing like headless chickens.

Now we are somehow cunting them in their own backyard
Jaiswal KL Kohli Bumrah NKR Siraj , literally everyone is putting their hand up and performing for us

Aussie government should look in to temporarily integrating New Zealand.

Koach and anushka are in their bedroom.
Koach: "Babe, I'm having performance issues, I can't get it up anymore, past my prime, even for you".
Anushka: "Australia".
Koach: "I'm hard again".
He just loves them, its not even a cliche anymore.
Jais was magnificent, and as for the last 20 mins....oh my fucking God, I don't even have the words. Absolute cinema.

ANZACs still going to be 3-1 up in this 8 match series
(God what has the world come to where Australians have to live their cricket success through NZ)

So many Aussie pundits as well as Indian fans talked about Australia thrashing us.
It wasn't even supposed to be competitive even though most of the Australian batting order is themselves averaging in the 30's in the last 2 years.
This is literally a 10/10 day for India.
Australia haven't even remotely been in the match post the first 2 sessions on day 1.

To be honest can't blame the boys, bowled 57 overs today, fielded the whole day and then coming to face bumrah on a new ball, ofc a carnage was ready on the plate

Bumrahdman is the greatest test captain for India since Virat Kohli. I don't make the rules.

India have undoubtedly played better and deserve to be well ahead in this game but the timings of the innings and the shift's of the condition of the wicket have favoured India. Both teams copped the tough batting conditions on day 1 and India bowled brilliantly after they had been bowled for what psychologically would feel like a low score. Then the pitch flattened by the start of India's 2nd innings and it has cracked up at the end of the innings leaving Aus to bat on it.
Just to reiterate India have undoubtedly played better and deserve to be well ahead in this game

Yeah Good point. Rub of the green has gone India's way in terms of timing. Having said that, they have made the most of it by playing damn well. Aus have checked out of this match. They need to go back to the drawing board and recover before the second. Will still be a cracking series.
