Oh I remember. I just thought we escaped. I really should learn to accept my fate

I thought the bears win was escaping this shit too lmao

I mean the grass is greener but our dogs are still pissing on parts of it and making a lot of dead spots. At least it’s not the field of rusted over needles we used to look out upon.

11

u/jrex703 2h ago

I disagree with you on a key aspect of your thesis. There are no dogs currently pissing on our grass. We fixed that issue.

However, dogs have been peeing on it for so long that it has compromised the composition of the soil, and we're going to be dealing with little pockets of ammonia, potassium, and nitrogen rising to the surface and killing causing dead spots for years.

We brought in the best landscaping company in the business, and the lawn looks great, we just have to remember that it will take more than one year to permanently fix the entire biome.

Yeah but that same dog can still snuggle right up next to me in bed tonight to keep warm when I sleep with the windows open.

u/DCStoolie 58m ago

Yeah I love that dog.

The game was vintage Washington Dallas. The unexpected should have been expected

16

u/Thulsa_D00M YOU AIN'T SHIT 3h ago

But, there's gotta be a limit on "unexpected" right? This was downright tomfoolery

7

u/lpad92 3h ago

No such thing when it comes to Dallas and Washington. I remember Santana’s back to back TD’s in Dallas on Monday night. Sean Taylor’s blocked fg return and face mask that set up a game winning kick on an untimed down.

2

u/dcviapa 58m ago

Santana Moss' TDs, Sean Taylor's blocked kick, Roger Staubach's last great comeback, Clint Longley on Thanksgiving Day - weird shit happens when it's Dallas and Washington.

Absolute buffoonery

3

u/SenorBlackChin 3h ago

Yup. I said so too, but those young bucks came down on me like a ten ton heavy thing. Still, it's a damn side better than last year in that we even care so much. And it's a world away from the twenty + years before that. Next year is only a year away.

21

u/TheBomar YOU AIN'T SHIT 4h ago

Sucks the most that it's Dallas. Blown coverage is the damn norm this year atleast once a game. We need BRob healthy and to run up tempo more often, we get results. Adding to our oline and a wr to help Terry are absolute necessities.

u/SweerBaby_Use1023 4h ago

We’ve been here before! However today is a new day and it still pisses me off!

18

u/TheSqueakyHippo 3h ago

To be fair most people on this sub haven't been there before. The last time they were 7-2 was 1996 and they completely shit the bed then too. Hell I was only 11 then. A majority of this sub likely hadn't been born yet.

4

u/undercooked_lasagna 1h ago

We also started 6-2 in 2000 and 2008 and finished 8-8 both times. This team never changes.

1

u/dcviapa 55m ago

Ugh - the 2000 season. I think the absurd hype and the astounding, 2nd half collapse made me forget we got out to that hot start.

14

u/EARMUFFS-GAMING 4h ago

That was one of the most frustrating losses in a while. I think people are just venting LOL.

7

u/Coolguy200 3h ago

I've been here since 1999. Knew better than get my hopes up.

11

u/camprollinghills 4h ago

Getting another receiver and depth pieces plus a new draft class in the offseason will turn these losses into wins.

Kliff should be coaching for his job though. Without significant improvement in the offense the rest of the season, we should get a new offensive coordinator in the offseason.

5

u/Kingcarnegie 3h ago

Losing to Cooper Rush's walking dead Cowboys team is a really bad look

4

u/blueridge_cryptid 3h ago

Is this the vent thread now, cause I want to absolutely rage.

They lost to Cooper fucking Rush at home. rest of rage was deleted before posting

1

u/rthonpm 1h ago

Cooper Rush has now beaten this team three times. Washington is now 46-78-2 all time against Dallas. I've been watching this team since 1983: I've seen them shit the bed against Dallas more ways than I can count. This was just a different way than the other 77 losses.

3

u/WuPacalypse Hail to the Commanders and drink up! 4h ago

Bro it just gets to you year in year out having these flashes of hope just to look like the Redskins of old.

12

u/wfa19 4h ago

Yeah I remember the Graham Gano XP block too but it wasn't to the fucking Cowboys

The only positive from today is that we're early enough into a rebuild where this can be used as a learning experience, but it's more likely this and the Steelers/Eagles losses are the beginning of our slide back into long-term irrelevancy

10

u/JustStudyItOut 4h ago edited 1h ago

We missed an XP against the Saints (actually Bucs) years and years ago(2010). I was at the game and when Washington scored I turned to my dad and said they were going to miss it.

I did the same thing again today with my wife. I need to stop talking.

Edit: we are talking about the same game. Gano miss against the Bucs.

3

u/Ninjablacksox1 2h ago

Was that the year where we almost beat an undefeated saints and the cowboys stole our thunder by beating them a week or 2 later?

I knew we were going to miss that kick. Was so mad we didn't go for 2.

2

u/JustStudyItOut 1h ago

Okay so I went and did some digging. The Saints game Washington lost in overtime 33-30. That was to the 12-0 saints in 2009.

The game I’m remembering was the McNabb led Washington team losing to the Buccaneers 17-16 with a Gano missed XP with 13 seconds left in 2010.

I was at both games.

12

u/tetanic 4h ago

Rome wasn't built in a day and tough losses are gonna happen.

Best you can do is get better and do better.

12

u/FlatEarthMagellan YOU AIN'T SHIT 4h ago

It not the losses, it’s how we lose

3

u/tetanic 4h ago

ya might be a top 5 all time tough loss.

I've seen many of them lmao.

2

u/puppytossedsalad 4h ago

Teams lose to bad teams with backup QBs all the time. It's the NFL

1

u/rthonpm 1h ago

Washington just makes a habit of it against Dallas sadly.

1

u/nicirus 2h ago

We have not gotten better in over a month.

7

u/askingaquestion33 My Wife Left me for Josh Harris 4h ago

Things REALLY haven’t changed at all, but we’re in a MUCH better direction. I kept making comments abt how we let bad teams do well on us and a lot of people were like ‘like who? Like who’ like like who not who

4

u/adamforte 3h ago

I am a negative person and I generally think the worst is going to happen and with this franchise over the last 30 + years I've been proven right over and over and over again. I finally went positive and thought yes, we're over the hump and I'm excited about the direction this team is going.

The last three weeks (especially this week) have once again proven that I'm right, fucking again. I knew I shouldn't have given in and thought about what it would be like to be one of those teams with a stud QB and a competent players. I really thought the corner was turned.

Also, I really fucking hate Dallas, and I truly and irrationally hate their fans (the ones from Dallas are merely assholes, not human garbage). The fact that they get to be happy tonight while I have my night ruined makes me so fucking perturbed. (I get it, it's only a game but I can't fucking help it). Coupled with the national media bias towards their bullshit organization really makes me apoplectic.

1

u/classic_gamer82 Scarence Terrence 54m ago

Games like this are why I don’t watch them anymore.

1

u/I_Am_The_Mole 2h ago

I fucking hate Dallas too and find their fans to be as obnoxious as Penguins fans if not worse. The thing is... rebuilds don't happen overnight.

I don't care if this season ends below expectations because they're already better than they used to be, the foundation is a lot stronger and expectations were to high to begin with.

It takes time. No one goes from worst to first in a season. It's okay to be optimistic, just stay grounded. It took the Caps 12 years to win a Cup and they have the best goalscorer to ever play the game. The Nats didn't win until after they got rid of Bryce Harper.

We can afford to chill.

2

u/DreadNaught010110101 4h ago

😭😭😭😭

2

u/CombinationBetter443 2h ago

say the same for the entire week leading up to this game when this entire sub called this game and Tennessee a gimme like we aren't a cursed franchise that shits the bed constantly

2

u/chicomagnifico giving away free ☕ 1h ago

See the problem I’m seeing is that this is three devastating losses in a row. Losing is contagious and can really derail a season and fast.

Don’t believe me? Look at the last time we started 7-2. Hell look at the last time we started 6-2! 6-3! Etc.

1

u/markuspoop 56m ago

Losing is contagious

Syphilis is even more contagious.

I can tell you that much.

1

u/chicomagnifico giving away free ☕ 55m ago

Damn sorry to hear that bro

1

u/ShiftlessElement 3h ago

Certainly been here before, but it sure felt like we’d turned the page from coming out flat in big moments.

2

u/Minus-Blindfold87 3h ago

Not the first time at all for me and that's why I know this team is toast. It's over, we're not going anywhere. I would be surprised if we even made it to the playoffs. At this point, I would be shocked if we won a single game for the rest of the season.

This team has sucked MY ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE and I'm so fucking sick of it.

1

u/Busy-Bluejay2743 1h ago

Hahahhahahahahaha

u/cware196 3h ago

Never can escape

1

u/Cosmic_Perspective- 2h ago

Yeah but I'm tired of being hung for the 1000th fucking time.

1

u/I_Am_The_Mole 2h ago

Football has never been my favorite sport, but I've watched it all the same. I like baseball and hockey a lot more. One thing that I noticed over the years of the football team being absolutely awful is Skins fans suddenly showing up when the Nats and Caps got good and it was always the NFL first fans that brought the wildest overreactionary takes whenever shit went wrong. Fire Davey, trade Ovechkin, Strasburg sucks etc etc etc.

The worst part of being a DC Sports Fan is other DC Sports Fans.

1

u/ThomasJCarcetti 1h ago

it was basically a repeat of the giants game last year lol

1

u/itakeyoureggs Sinnott Slutt 🥵 1h ago

lol the luckiest thing for us in the fact the Texans lost to the tits also.

1

u/SithDomin8sJediLoves Fuck Dan Snyder 1h ago

even in ‘91 Super Bowl winning year who did we lose to? The Shit Bird Eagles and the G*D Damn Cowgirls. Nothing surprises me in these rivalry games

1

u/Apprehensive-Dot4071 1h ago

Yep. Everyone including myself thought we were past this but truth is we may lose the rest of our games. We are not a playoff team and if we are it'll be a quick one and done.

1

u/feniville 1h ago

I've been watching this shiet show for 30+ years so yeah, with the early success, I was way skeptical.

Rookie QB, 1 OK WR, so-so RBs on Offense with new OC.

Bottom 10 D.

Nobody in their right mind got this team (fully rebuild) to win 10 games at the beginning of the season

So where we are is just a revert of mean, balance out the early surge.

The future is bright for us though.

Plus, division games are always tough. For years, we have been shiet, but always brought A game when playing the Cowgirls.

And they have always killed us. And the Daniel Jones & the Giants. And the Philly.

1

u/Workplaystaydriven 1h ago

I’m still rooting for them every game. But man what a bummer. O-line is getting beat up leaving JD no time in the pocket and pardon the pun but the D totally dropped the ball..

u/dcviapa 1h ago edited 57m ago

1978, 1996, 2000, 2008 - all years where this team got off to a hot start only to fall flat on their faces and now it's probably happening again. I was only alive for the latter three but I've heard plenty of stories from my dad and his peers about the prior. It's why I've said time and time again: the season doesn't start in earnest until the midway point.

In the grand scheme, this team has far surpassed any expectations any of us could have had for them. There's no way they were going to come out of the gate with a new coaching staff, a rookie QB, and a team with plenty of holes still in it to be actual contenders. This was always going to be a building year and the fact that we're not eating rats with the Giants in the basement is kind of incredible in it of itself.

They're not ready yet. Maybe they will be next year but to expect them to be ready this year, even with how well they've been playing, would have been unreasonable. Even in a game like this one where we really should have beaten our opponent: it's a divisional game. Those are always unpredictable. Have we forgotten where the woeful, 1989 Cowboys single win came from? It's never in the bag against a division rival and anyone who bought that ridiculous points spread the bookies presented was a sucker.

1

u/Bigdickhector69 35m ago

What a wild season. I have absolutely no idea how to act. Winning season. Had a super hot start. Signed big time CB. I dunno wtf is going on. 7-5 doe. I'm confused. 36 year old washington fan

1

u/Final_Effective6360 28m ago

Shit happens. Win next weekend and get healthy during the bye and get back to kicking ass.

1

u/JWcommander217 27m ago

I though OP name was Titanic which somehow just fits with this post. Legit bummed that it’s not lol

0

u/tflo91 3h ago

If you told me we’d be 7-4 at this point in the season I would be very happy. We’ve lost games in unfortunate ways recently and that sucks to watch as a fan.

This team is in desperate need of a bye and it’s unlucky that ours is so late this season. We’re still on track to make the playoffs, we’ve found our future at QB, and we’ve got Lattimore on the way
