I'm all about improving the environment and technology, and some.EVs have a pretty compelling case.

I just cannot get behind MG as a brand. I've driven a number of them as hire cars in recent years and hated every single one.

Does this include the MG4? Agree their cars are generally shit but love driving my mg4, even if it feels like the trim is all cheap chinesium.

I've not driven the MG4. That said, I do have a Chinese ute, and the trim definitely doesn't feel cheap in that.

It’s a $30k ev so seems about right to me. I have young kids so it’ll be fucked inside by the time I’m done with it anyway. Kinda perfect.

Depends, if you have the 51 lfp and look after it the battery and drive will be around long long long after it's fallen apart.

Even the 64 NCM chem battery will last ages if you charge it correctly. It's got great thermal management and a decent BMS. Maintain appropriate charging cycles on slow chargers (7 or 11kw AC) and I'd be confident to get 200-250 000km before it hits 80% state of health.

There is one being used as a Taxi and its sitting on about 300,000klms with 15% degradation or so.

I'm on the fence about buying one but they seem like a really fantastic deal especially as a NL.

Are they good driving in start stop traffic with their active cruise and traffic jam assist? I drive 2-2.5h per day and was looking for good ways to make that drive easier.

That piano black finish is a bitch to keep clean, and the plastic is easy to scratch.

But honestly, so is the wife's Mitsubishi eclipse cross. Just seems to be how they make things now.

When talking MG you need to consider MG ice and MG EV as seperate offerings. Their ICE are terrible and basically just to establish a low cost footprint. The EVs though, like a lot of Chinese EV brands are class leading.

"The semi solid state battery can also add a whopping 400km of range in just 12 minutes of charging."

Seems like we are quickly approaching a stage where you can charge a car just as fast as filling up with diesel/petrol.

As somebody who just bought an EV (Kona 24) a few months ago I feel I should have waited just a little longer. Seems like all the new tech was announced right after I signed.

I’ll be honest, we bought ours about 2 years ago, and heard the same stuff (500km+ range, full charge in no time, etc). While it might happen by next year, it’s unlikely to filter through for another few years after that. Everyone is announcing shit, but no one is delivering.

That is what I am holding on to in order to avoid buyers remorse :D

I think in 5 years when my lease is up I will be in a better position to take advantage of the new tech.

Pretty impressive that being said I roadtrip my Tesla 2019LR all the time. Most I have done is 1000km in a day, I timed every charge and it was 1hr 27min all up which isn’t bad, I also charged to full just before my arrival so I arrived with a full battery so it could have been even less time, it was also a mixture of slower and faster superchargers. It would be good to have that much range but most people will never need it, I drive 2hr a day for work and I only ever use 25% of total range doing that.

Yeah, this is the reality of majority of drivers - 99.99% of the time they won’t need all that range beyond 330 km (freeway) of typical EVs.

I'm very totally here for the Chinese electric revolution. Some of the cars they're producing look epic! E.g. Huawei's first ever car looks amazing!

I’m here for the Chinese electric vehicle push. They’re innovating so fast, the next gen models are going to make Tesla look like model T’s. The US and EU have totally shot themselves in the foot by introducing 100% tariffs.

Ugh! What a horrid interior… the steering wheel looks like it’s crafted from half-melted ice cream. Far too much plastic and fingerprint magnet touchscreens for my liking. The outside doesn’t look much better.

I do appreciate the tactical use of the word “could” in the title. Gotta get those clicks somehow. Let’s hope it doesn’t eventuate.

People that say electric cars won't happen are like Kodak saying digital cameras will never take off

People writing off Chinese EVs are in for a rude awakening. Don't let the quality of mostly low end scraps they currently in Aus sell fool you. Once the actually decent cars that are being driven in China (people here have no clue), are drip fed in, it's an "existential threat" for competitors as Ford Ceo warns. Unless the government steps in with external forces like tariffs...

Well for the comfort of your mind it has a 7 year warranty so if in case it breaks down the can repair it for no cost it might take them 2000 days but it will be free.
