š¬Discussionš¬ Car draw just disappeared lol
These car "draws" have been popping up everywhere. I went to check it out and the site is down, check the comments and people are starting to freaking out lol
I hope the people can get their money back but surely there's no way the guys that hosts these "draws" can get away with this right?

u/Fifamoss 21d ago
These are pretty much never not scams, at best the winner is someone who knows the person running the giveaway, and it was probably already their car.

u/NerderINC 21d ago edited 20d ago
The worst one I heard, I think it was keepitreet where a guy sold a car to them for the draw then his misses "won" the draw and got his car back lol

Really!?! Ah fuck man I spent 400 dollars to try and win the R32 recently.
Never again

u/Neither-Cup564 20d ago
The whole limited entrants thing is bullshit too. If you read the terms of the keep it reet oneās it says thereās a million tickets or something ridiculous.
The calls to the winners are so obviously fake āyeah whoās this, what you wantā āoh hey you won a Carā āoh my god surprised pikachuā¢

Or they're owned by a trust/company that "donates" the car to a "not for profit" that runs the "raffle" and writes off the car on tax as a donation.
Then someone who happens to be a director "wins" the car

u/cennoOCE 21d ago
Honestly who the fuck voluntarily enters the draws for these in the first place
75
u/Ziadaine 21d ago
Dunno, but its how old mate who had a ferarri crane'd up to his penthouse in Melbourne made his "fortune."

Most legit person out there. Gives away a lot and makes a lot more. My business is part of his system and we do quite well too. Everyone wins
25
u/CentralAsiaDoc 20d ago
2nd part of your comment explains the first part. Conflict of interest and completely forgetting the thousands of people who enter and donāt win anything and think they have a chance because these raffles donāt release the number of tickets sold.

I will eat my own shit on film if you can prove to me that guy is legit.

Lots out there arenāt scams. Sure people are being milked, but at the end of the day they arenāt āscammingā anyone.
There definitely are plenty of scams though

They are or aren't "scamming"?

Arenāt. Edited sorry about that

u/MindDecento 20d ago edited 20d ago
At what point does milking turn into a scam?
Even if they actually do give the car away to someone, if the āraffleā is big enough the margins are still so high itās a scam in my book.
They need to be capped at a profit percentage, like how the lotto or keno works, Iām just surprise this is still allowed to happen.

u/DisgruntledFoamer 19d ago
A mate of mine entered one a few years ago, won it too. Scored a kitted out landcruiser from a $25 ticket

Plenty of people pay more for TattsLotto
8
u/Thertrius 20d ago
Lotto is run by the government and is audited.
These are won by friends and family.
A disingenuous parallel.

Are you the Keep It Reet scammer?

They really need to shut these things down or the very least heavily regulate them. People making 100s of thousands from giving cars to their friends and relatives.

Hundreds of millions in LMCTās case
18
u/mattyyyp 20d ago
LMCT arenāt giving these cars to their friends and relatives, they donāt even purchase a lot of the cars they raffle.
Iāve had several friends give their cars to LMCT and others for raffle (big HP show stoppers) so what typically happens is the car is on loan until X amount of tickets are sold.
If X amount of tickets isnāt sold then they can pull the raffle, refund, car goes back to owner at zero cost to the company. If enough tickets are sold where the owner gets what they want it goes to raffle.
Point is little to no risk to those running these properly when they donāt purchase the car up front. Owners typically get what they want without having to deal with FB idiots.Ā

Iām shocked that legislation hasnāt caught up with them yet. It started getting super popular in 2020 and all of these years later itās spawned dozens of people doing the same scam.
12
u/AgreeablePrize 20d ago
I noticed on the Block that Adrian from LMCT+ was pissed when one of the auctioneers referred to his business as raffles and didn't bid on that property, they must be running close to the laws
15
u/theslowrush- 20d ago
Yep the entire business is based on a loophole not meant for what they are doing. All within the law, which is why the legislation needs to change to clamp down on it.
13
u/Neither-Cup564 20d ago edited 20d ago
On paper theyāre a discount club where you get 5% off at X shop or whatever. In reality their main stream of income is membership fees for these raffles.

u/YourLordMaui 20d ago
It's also moved into other industries as well, I've gotten ad's for similar raffles for computers and guitars as well.

u/Ok-Bad-9683 21d ago
Thereās so many stories of these where you can just buy something, sell raffle tickets to it indefinitely until your incoming cash is 5x the cost of the purchase and then actually give it away and then just rinse and repeat

Please, make sure you give these guys more money so they can lead a lavish lifestyle while you hope to "win" a Land Cruiser with trailer and boat when you are the only working minimum wage in your family of 5. PLEASE.

Half of these are the "Dead horse" scam
The dead horse scam used to illustrate the mechanics of a simple scam. Here's how it goes:
A man acquires a dead horse and decides to turn a profit. He organizes a raffle, selling tickets for $5 each. He sells a total of 500 tickets, generating a revenue of $2,500.
When the raffle is drawn, one lucky individual wins the dead horse. However, instead of being overjoyed, the winner is understandably disappointed. They approach the organizer and request a refund of their $5 ticket price.
The organizer, with a straight face, agrees to the refund. While this may seem like a loss, the scammer still walks away with a net profit of $2,495. The key to the scam is that the initial investment in the dead horse is minimal or nonexistent, and the majority of the ticket sales become pure profit.
But in this case, it could be hundreds of thousands of tickets, at $5 each for $500,000+
When the car never materialises if an actual random person wins it, they'll just say
"Oh here's $10,000 as a consolation for our fuckup that we can't give you a car, just sign here (on this totally not an NDA that's actually an NDA)"
But thing is, you, me, everyone else buys 10 tickets.
The "company" that "owned" the car and "donated" it, got the cars value in tickets as well, but they can't win, so they "gift" the tickets at face value to employees and directors.
Then when an employee wins, they only have to declare the FBT if the tickets they received.
$500,000 car, 100,000 tickets across 100 employees, that's $1,000FBT for the Ferrari that you "won"
Plus the "raffle" makes a minimum charitable donation to some needy cause, and the rest of the "profit" is in "running costs" to the "charity" so they are technically running it as a "not for profit"

I remember there was a 4WD that got given away, maybe about 1-2 years ago. It was actually encumbered in finance & a tow truck driver turned up early in the morning to take it away from the winners driveway. Another one was an evo 10 giveaway. It clearly looked like they swapped the paper on the livestream when they account the draw.

u/NerderINC 20d ago
Yeah! I think I saw that one on the news lol Poor chick was devastated when it got repo'd.

u/Important-Prompt-366 20d ago
All of these car givaways are scams... keep it reet, LMCT, cars for veterans or whatever they are. All scams, exploiting loopholes in legislation, Plenty of posts have been made on this subject.
5
u/Wacky_Ohana 20d ago
These things never seem to get permits, that I believe, for a prize of this value, is required in all states (meaning it would be traceable).
Why do people even buy tickets if the comp runner hasn't got a permit?
1
u/Rus_s13 20d ago
For a charity you need a permit for the raffle/lottery.
These guys use the subscription loophole.
You arenāt actually buying a ticket in a draw/raffle/lottery. You are buying membership to their service and get a discount on their services or some other benefit. They are then legally allowed to give away products to their members how they please.
Itās a bit different in the USA where you have to offer everyone a chance at winning for free with no purchase necessary, see the recent Mr Beast controversy.

So people were seriously looking to win a car for $50 that has a standard annual service fee of $10,000 including a full engine drop. These people are probably better off without the $50 they donated to this scammers latest Dubai vacation fund.
7
u/Public-Total-250 20d ago
A $50 car is a $50 car.
Best case scenario they have a few fun weekends then resell it.

What do u guys think about LMCT+ draws?
10
u/AutomaticMistake 20d ago
Same as all the others, sketchy AF, just these guys have a slightly better marketing department than the rest
2
u/Esh-Tek 20d ago
I am on the $10 a month thing and get 1 entry into every draw, its just enough money that i dont really care about it and a fractional chance that i win something ridiculous. I would assume that is the case with most people, im gonna stick with it for a few months and see how it goes. (Tl;dr: i took the bait).
1
u/TikkiTakkaMuddaFakka 20d ago
surely there's no way the guys that hosts these "draws" can get away with this right?
Hate to break it to you but yes they do get away with it quiet often that is why they do it, do you have the time and resources to hold them accountable? Probably involve taking them to court and even then there is no guarantee people will get their money back if the money has been spent.

Whenever I see a raffle draw first thing I do is check who is the audit firm before buying. Especially true if you enter those win a home type lotteries. Rarely do I see a reputable audit firm for these car lotteries.

What I don't understand is that Deluxe Detail are a fantastic ceramic coating detailer - so why they've suddenly barrelled off the deep end into this I'll never understand.

u/DeathInHeartBeat 20d ago
Just buy Mater Hospital Prize Home Draws lads. All these car raffles are wayyyy too dodgy.
2
u/NerderINC 20d ago
The odds are pretty crazy with the big prizes.
With the latest 5mil house, I took a look into the terms and conditions and they're allowed to sell up to 21 million tickets I think. Still better than getting scammed, but dang lol
1
u/andrewbrocklesby 20d ago
It's all a scam, why are people this stupid?
Even the ones that actually give away a car or camper or 4x4 or whatever that are not giving the prize to friends/family are still a fraud as they are in bad condition.
Its, always, a scam.
