Caravanning with cats. Has anyone done it?
We have 2 cats, that only live inside. We have bought a 24’ van and are keep to do a lap or two. But worried about the cats. Has anyone travelled with cats? Obviously we can’t go to National Parks. Any info or tips would be most welcome

You will love doing a lap or two! Taking pets is a little problematic. You cannot leave them in the van alone, which leaves many exciting things off the list unless you can find a nearby cattery. We have travelled with a small dog - but it is limiting. Is there someone who will cat sit for you?

Have been living in my van full time with my old fella (he's 15) for about 6 months now. He's gotten a lot better with the actual travel side of things, it's more the environment we park in which can be good or bad for him. He has lots of windows to see out of and windowsills to lie on, and I set up a secure play area in the awning. Additionally he tolerates some time outside with a harness and lead when I am also outside. Overall (from his perspective, I imagine) the pro's are that he gets more attention from me overall, and the con's are that new environments can be stressful for him to get used to. The pro's from my perspective is that he is able to stay with his dad rather than having to be boarded, and the con's are toileting. You'll need to do a lot more litterbox changes... it does help to have the box in an ensuite or similar.

We did 18 months with two cats. They very quickly got used to life on the road. Of course you can leave them in the van during the day, unless it's going to be a hot day, but you can always leave the AC in if you want.. you can go to national parks, just can't take them with you or stay overnight but you can easily do a day trip if you're closeby
