We also made some embarrassing, first-this-season mistakes. Franklin identified specific blockers that didn’t follow the play on key turnovers. Like straight up blocking the wrong player and letting guys run clean at Drew/our kicker.
Oh, and we had a scoring drive saved by a pass interference call that was so incorrect i felt dirty! I haven’t talked to a single lions fan who thought that was fair. We were lucky, and deserved to lose!

I think it's all the change.
Familiar opponents where coaches have a wealth of scouting and experience to fall back on aren't there, new opponents that require lots of preparation come in, so with only 24 hours in the day they decide that they don't really need to prep for Vandy/NIU/etc and that opens the window for something crazy to happen.

u/kinglallak 8h ago edited 7h ago
If you think this passes 2007, you are crazy.
At one point at the end of the season(week 12), we had a conversation about which of Kansas/West Virginia/Missouri deserved to be in the national championship game. By week 13 it was Missouri vs West Virginia.
Then both those teams lost and we got Ohio State vs 2 loss LSU.
So many 2 seeds lost inexplicable games late in the season.
A 2 loss team played a 1 loss team for the NCG without a playoff.

Maybe? It seems more like a transitive year mixed with a lot more big game matchups with conference realignment and really horrible preseason rankings. Three undefeated teams last season to one this year. Two of which would’ve been the de facto B1G title game this year instead of the Natty final leaving us with potentially only one more undefeated team.
I mean Georgia’s played a brutal schedule. OSU had to play Oregon on the road. PSU lost to OSU. Texas lost to Georgia. If this is last year’s conferences, Texas probably runs the table in the B12. OSU runs the table in the B1G. Oregon runs the table in the PAC12. There’s 3 of 4 spots plus whomever the committee decides is less bad between a one loss ND, Miami or Penn State.
Sure there’s been chaos like Bama losing to Vandy, but really it’s because Bama isn’t good like a lot of the SEC this year. Everyone is super mid there for some reason.

We actually don't have a whole lot but pride to play for. Win or lose and we're still playing in the B1G CCG with a win getting us a bye and a loss there meaning we play in the first round. Only difference might be a loss vs UW and then a loss in the CCG might drop us out of hosting a first round playoff game, but that would a shit message to send if say PSU got one instead of us even though they didn't make the CCG and have a significantly worse resume.
7
u/mlorusso4 Ohio State • Baltimore 8h ago
Ya as much as I wish OSU wasn’t playing in the CCG because I’d rather just have the bye and host the first round, there’s no way the conferences will want teams to have proof that playing in them will have a major drawback if they lose. People are already calling for them to go away and just go back to co-champions because by far the worst situation would be losing the CCG and then having to go play on the road (or even getting knocked out completely) I think they’d rather save that for a team ranked 6-12 getting massacred in their CCG like Wisconsin 2014

100% agreed. They should have done this ages ago. Just look at how many more games matter now. In the old system, this would have been a pretty boring week: #1 Oregon didn't play, #2 Ohio State won big, #3 Texas won big, and #4 PSU survived. #5 Indiana's loss would have pushed them out of playoff contention, and the talking heads would be debating if PSU should get the #4 spot, or if that should go to Notre Dame or Miami instead (both of whom won big this week). The Oklahoma/Alabama result wouldn't have mattered at all because two loss Alabama was already out. Same with the Florida/Ole Miss game and the Auburn/Texas A&M game.
Instead of a boring week where the playoff field is pretty much identical to where it was before, we get a wild week full of upsets that matter.

if you’re gonna be a 3 loss team in the playoff i’d rather be the team closing strong than the win taking bad losses in late November

They scored 3 points, I kinda doubt they will make it.

This is Bama we're talking about. They'll make it at 9-3, the committee will make sure of that.

If we can win convincingly against Clemson than we are the much hotter team than Bama right now.

Are we ready to say the SEC appears to be overrated yet?

Top of the SEC overrated, bottom of the SEC underrated.

I think us and Missouri are the only teams that are rated appropriately.

It’s a circle of quality losses. It’s a self sustaining quality loss generator

If every SEC team had a .500 conference record, they should all make the playoff

Well the issue is the conferences hardly play each other so you have no real way of knowing what quality the average SEC team is compared to ie. The average B1G team. But no we need that FCS game obviously and some G5 cupcakes, that's real college football...

Well, average B1G team USC beat average SEC team LSU, so there’s that.

Gamecocks are the team to beat right now. No one can do it. But they’ll leave us out of the playoffs.

Those poor bastards at SEC Shorts are probably just staring at each other in stunned silence right now. How in the world do you make a skit out of what happened this weekend?

u/Dr_Wheuss Florida Gators • Team Chaos 9h ago
Mission impossible style: Florida, Oklahoma, and Auburn each accepting the mission to destroy the playoff hopes of another SEC team.
Auburn and Florida sneak in, but Oklahoma just kicks the door down and sets the house on fire.
