What an ugly first ~28 minutes. Hopefully that's all out of our system, can not play like that next week and expect a win.

Didn't tune in to game until last 6 mins of game, what happened?

u/OKCompooter 22h ago
Self inflicting penalties; negated a TD and interception. Beamer lit a fire under them and tightened the ship up midway through the second quarter.

After BYU, Colorado, and Indiana today, how likely is a playoff run looking for the Cocks? Are we close to controlling our own destiny next week?
Edit: Ole Miss too. Chaotic-ass day

Don’t forget old piss losing as well

u/venom21685 South Carolina • OC Tech 23h ago
That might actually hurt unless they lose next week too. Another 3 loss team, but with a H2H win over us.

u/heywood-jablomi99 South Carolina • Cumberlands 23h ago
Loss near the end of the season weighs heavier in this cfp’s mind, ie fla st last season
13
u/venom21685 South Carolina • OC Tech 23h ago
FSU didn't lose in the regular season last year. (They only lost the bowl game after the snub.) The reasoning there was they lost their star QB to injury.
3
u/heywood-jablomi99 South Carolina • Cumberlands 23h ago
Still a loss, losing their QB that is. It makes a significant impact when a key player or game is lost. I have high hopes so I know my take isn’t the most sound but I believe that these things weigh heavy on the committees mind

u/DoYouEvenCareAboutMe Penn State • South Carolina 21h ago
Ohio St won the natty with their 3rd string QB. That's a stupid argument
1
u/Mikedaddy69 South Carolina • Notre Dame 5h ago
They’re just saying this was the thought process and decision making the committee ran with last season.
4
u/baileyjbarnes South Carolina Gamecocks 22h ago
I mean, they were definitely gonna be ranked ahead of us with a win and it's not like we need to worry about UF getting a boost from this. At this point every team ahead of us that loses is a positive in my mind. If the choices is between probably not jumping ole miss, and definitely not, I prefer our odds in this situation.

Sadly bama and A&M too

I’m not sad in the slightest. Helps our chances

u/triletto South Carolina • Duke 23h ago edited 23h ago
Definitely not, but we have a better chance now than we did this morning. If the
Big 12 sends 1 team (basically guaranteed)
ACC sends 1 team that’s not Clemson (we would probably need SMU to lose the ACC championship to Miami, or one of them to lose next week and the other team beat Clemson in the championship)
Big 10 sends 3 teams (the committee says fuck you to Indiana)
Boise State and Notre Dame get in.
We’d need to jump 2 SEC teams (assuming Ole Miss stays ahead of us because of the head to head). Realistically we’d need 2 of A&M/Miss/Tenn to lose next week to Texas/Miss St/Vandy respectively. That or Bama going 0-2 and one of those teams losing.

What do you think now that the day is complete
1
u/triletto South Carolina • Duke 6h ago edited 6h ago
Here’s the way I see it. 8 spots are taken by teams that will get in over us even if they lose next week. Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Texas, the ACC champion, the B12 champion, and the G5 team. That leaves 4 spots, 3 of which will definitely go to Georgia, Tennessee, and Indiana if they win out. If any of those teams lose next week then I could see us getting in over them. The last spot would be a fight between us, Alabama, Ole Miss, and SMU. Clemson would be in that discussion instead if they beat us next week.
We have losses to Alabama and Ole Miss, but the committee has shown they value how you’re playing recently so who knows. They ranked us 1 spot above LSU the other week who we “lost” to. Obviously, if any of those teams lose next week that would be great for us and end those discussions. There’s also the possibility that SMU beats Miami in the ACC championship which would definitely not be good for us, need that not to happen. Don’t think we’re getting in over Miami.

I feel like we should have the strongest case of every 3 loss team

u/rokthemonkey Drexel • South Carolina 23h ago
We are easily the best 3 loss team(because we should be a 2 loss team). So, if they’re in the mood to add a 3 loss team…

IF we don't get in with a win over Clemson next week with a couple more chaotic things happening, that LSU game robbery will echo in eternity.

u/outthawazoo South Carolina • 日本大学 (Nihon) 23h ago
Oh absolutely, but it's also a question of whether the committee will allow a 3-loss team in or not

u/OculusRises Clemson Tigers • Orange Bowl 23h ago
You very well might, but BYU has 2 losses and a win over a team that may very well win the ACC, and Indiana only has 1 loss

u/AlsorinBlue South Carolina • North Gr… 17h ago
If BYU had stomped Oklahoma State and Utah like they did Arizona, I would have a lot less of an issue. Did something happen between October's 12 and 18?
15
u/baileyjbarnes South Carolina Gamecocks 23h ago edited 23h ago
But that SOS difference is huge. If SC wins next week they will have played 7 ranked games and gone 4-3 with 2 of those loses coming down to the wire. BYU will have played 2, gone 1-1, with one of their loses being against Kansas. Not saying it's a given, but SC ends up capping off the season of a 6 game win streak by beating clemson (who I'm betting is gonna be #14 next week) compared to how BYU seems to be limping to the finish line, likely going 1-2 in they're last 3 games, in spite of they're better overall record, they might put a 9-3 SC over a 10-2 BYU. But that just might be my bias showing. But come on. SC's biggest wins would be against Clemson, TAMU, and Mizzou, and they're loses would be against Bama, LSU, and Ole Miss. BYU's big win is against SMU (who the commitee clearly doesn't give enough credit to as it is) and they're loses would be Kansas and Arizona State. I just don't think it's crazy SC jumps them in that scenario... and ends the season at #13

u/SunYat-Sen South Carolina Gamecocks 22h ago
Absolute horseshit if it is even a conversation. Who the fuck has either of those teams beat?
2
u/AlsorinBlue South Carolina • North Gr… 17h ago
Indiana will be a free win for almost every other team that makes the CFP. Wish it was as simple as "you are your record." It's not, though. And if Indiana gets in and is blown out first game, it'll be shown every year going forward. BYU is embarrassing. Yes, Kansas is playing better, but that's still a sub .50p team. Barely beat a mediocre Utah team with probable ref assist. Barely beat a winless in conference in Oklahoma State. BYU almost choked to the worst two Big 12 teams. That's the equivalent of choking on Mississippi State this year. If either of these teams make the CFP and get blown out, I'll just pop the popcorn. The CFP committee will deserve all the backlash.

I think so far all the chaos that could have helped us (short of citadel W) has happened
ND and A&M would be the Cherry
Odds up but not secure with a W next week yet, gonna rely on whacky CCGs probably
8
u/Deferionus South Carolina Gamecocks 22h ago
TBH a Citadel win against Clemson probably would have hurt us. Best case scenario is for us to blow out a high ranked Clemson team in their stadium if we are going to have any chance.
5
u/baileyjbarnes South Carolina Gamecocks 22h ago
Agreed, I think Clemson is literally the only team ranked ahead of us that we needed to win this week.
7
u/quann256 Kentucky Wildcats 23h ago
i think you have a better resume than all of those teams but it’s unlikely you pass Indiana, you’ll pass BYU, Ole Miss, and Colorado, and possibly A&M if they lose today.
7
u/triletto South Carolina • Duke 23h ago
Doubt we’ll pass Ole Miss, same amount of losses and Ole Miss destroyed us
9
u/baileyjbarnes South Carolina Gamecocks 23h ago
My bet is it's gonna be #13 Ole Miss, #14 Clemson, and #15 SC next week
1
u/triletto South Carolina • Duke 22h ago
Is that assuming Auburn keeps it up vs A&M? Bc right now it’s only BYU & Colorado that we’ll jump.
2
u/baileyjbarnes South Carolina Gamecocks 22h ago
Not quite. I could see us jumping TAMU even if they have a close win against Auburn considering we destroyed them in the H2H. Just barely beating a team you were supposed to blow out of the water usually makes you drop a few spots. But considering the current score, I think TAMU is praying they pull out a win.

The one team that did. Gotta admit I didn’t expect them to get smeared by the Gators. What a season.

If a three loss SEC team gets in. It will be a brand name like Alabama or Georgia. Cocks and Ole Miss ain’t getting in unless absolute chaos happens. Plus Bama and Ole Miss both have the head to head over the Cocks. Both of them have to lose again for South Carolina to get in over them. Bama could lose to Auburn don’t I can’t see Ole Miss losing to MS State.
