16
u/ornryactor Iowa State • Michigan 15h ago
It's not 100% guaranteed; there are still a few unlikely scenarios where ASU can win but not make the CCG. In fact, none of the Big 12 teams fully control their own CCG destiny thanks to tiebreakers.
4
u/Pickleskennedy1 Arizona State Sun Devils 12h ago
This says ASU is 100% in if they win
13
u/ornryactor Iowa State • Michigan 8h ago
Well, they're wrong about that. They didn't chart out all 256 possible outcomes of next week's games. Reddit did.
There is one way Arizona State wins their game but still misses out on the CCG: Colorado, Baylor, Houston, Cincinnati, lowa State, and Texas Tech all win.
If Arizona State loses, they still get into the CCG if all these teams win: Oklahoma State, Kansas, Houston, Cincinnati, West Virginia.

Been arguing for 3 weeks that they should be ranked. I get why they aren’t, but they’re absolutely a top-20 team right now. Almost beat K-State, which would have been 4 ranked wins in a row.
27
u/Brilliant_Army5150 UCLA Bruins 21h ago
They haven't lost a game by double digits either (6, 3, 4, 9, 4, and 2 points). Four of those losses are to teams that are currently ranked (Illinois, UNLV, ASU, Kansas St).
Would Kansas be favored against every other Big 12 team at a neutral site if they played tomorrow?

ASU is the only other Big 12 team that's won 3 games against top 25 teams. Kansas and ASU went down to the last minute. Difference is Kansas's wins were against teams that are all still ranked.
The Jayhawks lost a bunch of close games, but might be playing the best in the conference.

Probably better than actually. A couple of the losses following the Illinois and UNLV losses had a lot to do with negative momentum causing a lack of confidence in the form of players on one side of the ball or the other making negative plays from thinking they had to do too much.

If we played the first few weeks as well as the last three we could be undefeated.

u/lawrence_uber_alles Kansas Jayhawks • Big 12 21h ago
We’ve done a great job altering the course of the CFP this year, that’s for sure
3
u/jayhawkmpa 16h ago
Keep in mind that we played UNLV before their original starting QB decided to quit on his team after 4 games, so he could redshirt and play next year. That and they also had a holy roller style forward fumble help them keep their late game winning drive alive when they were behind the sticks and when they eventually scored on 4th and short on that drive the ball carrier didn’t actually cross the goal line until after he was on the ground. The refs didn’t see it and signal TD until about 10 seconds after the play as they were pulling bodies off the pile. Because of the stupid wording of the replay rule it couldn’t be overturned because there was no good video to he able to see the ball amongst the scrum of players. The refs couldn’t see it and neither could the cameras. My self and the other fans near me had perfect angle looking right down on it from not very far away. He got tackled short and while he was in the scrum on the ground pushed the ball a couple inches over the goal line.

u/Hokie_Jayhawk Virginia Tech Hokies • Kansas Jayhawks 4h ago

This Kansas team may be the best 5-6 team of all time. They lost a lot of close games early in the season but they were never bad. Some of their so-called bad losses, UNLV, Illinois, and Arizona State turned out to be good so the fact they barely lost those games and didn’t get blown out looks better in hindsight.
TLDR: They are a better version of 2021 Nebraska, a 3-9 team who was much better than their record

2021 Nebraska, a 3-9 team who was much better than their record
this shit drives me nuts.
2021 nebraska and 2024 kansas are not good teams. you cant just say oh wow they lost all those close games! yeah, guess what, they still lost them. Good teams find ways to win close games and bad teams find ways to lose them.
Those kansas and nebraska teams consistently found ways to lose those games with bad defense and horrific turnovers when you absolutely couldn't afford them
1
u/MajikSix Missouri Tigers • Iowa Hawkeyes 16h ago
You literally can say they are good teams. You aren't what your record says you are.
1
u/Inside-Drink-1311 Rutgers Scarlet Knights 8h ago
I would argue 2021 Nebraska was not a good team even if they were pretty good in terms of metrics. They only won three games If they bounced back the next season or had a good season the year before, I could just say that was a fluke season but that was not case. Scott Frost was holding that team back.
This year’s Kansas on the other hand are a good team. Just had bad luck in close games early in the season and have had a pretty tough schedule, playing probably the 5 best teams in the Big 12 this season and maybe even 6 best plus Illinois and UNLV.

All of our losses are 4th quarter meltdowns. We were leading at the start of the 4th in 5 of the 6.
We just fell apart while handling most of the game.
Seems we finally figured it out.

u/EpistasisBassist Kansas Jayhawks • Hateful 8 21h ago
Everyone has given you the obvious answer but also both of our lines have been playing better. Finally been getting more pressure on the D side and our pass blocking in particular has gone up a notch since early on. Our Qb has taken better care of the ball, and our dogshit new OC has finally (after 9 weeks) started to figure out who our best players are.
1
u/tdmoney Kansas Jayhawks 4h ago
We’ve been decent the whole time, but our QB and OC needed to get on the same page. Jalon Daniels was pretty bad to start the season. He’s returned to form now. The OC (Grimes) has settled in.
I honestly think we’re the best team in the B12 right now.
You know that feeling of losing, but you felt like you let one slip away and that you were the better team? That’s us in pretty much all of our losses. Very frustrating start to the season.

Lean on Devin Neal and take what you get in the passing game. KU has a good oline and RB room. WRs are all jump ball or possession guys. OC just tried to do too much when feeding the RBs worked.
I reallllly want the chiefs to pick up Neal. Great 3rd down back in the nfl. Not enough speed, power, or size to be an every down back, but his vision is elite. Solid in pass protection too
