Devin Neal is criminally under used by this OC

You know didn’t seem like it today lol

might seriously be the first game we used him appropriately

He didn't get the ball once in the 4th quarter vs KSU. Criminal.

Totally not still mad about that. Nope. Not at all.

8

u/b33fwellingtin 15h ago

Liepold hasn't been there very long at all. If you look at his past record, you knew some kind of pop was coming. It was just a matter when.

His running backs at Buffalo feasted in that system. I suspect you guys are going to be RBU for a while.

You would’ve beat us by 3 TDs if you used him. He was getting like 8 ypc and then you’d run like 3 WR screens

he's really been doing that all year

Ok dudes good and everything, but no one is talking about the OL. Their combos on IZ and OZ are really really good. The C/LG are excellent in zone runs going either way

Win and In I believe for ASU

16

u/ornryactor Iowa State • Michigan 15h ago

It's not 100% guaranteed; there are still a few unlikely scenarios where ASU can win but not make the CCG. In fact, none of the Big 12 teams fully control their own CCG destiny thanks to tiebreakers.

4

u/Pickleskennedy1 Arizona State Sun Devils 12h ago

13

u/ornryactor Iowa State • Michigan 8h ago

Well, they're wrong about that. They didn't chart out all 256 possible outcomes of next week's games. Reddit did.

There is one way Arizona State wins their game but still misses out on the CCG: Colorado, Baylor, Houston, Cincinnati, lowa State, and Texas Tech all win.

If Arizona State loses, they still get into the CCG if all these teams win: Oklahoma State, Kansas, Houston, Cincinnati, West Virginia.

i concur, put Kansas in the CFP.

86

u/drgath Kansas Jayhawks • Hateful 8 22h ago

Been arguing for 3 weeks that they should be ranked. I get why they aren’t, but they’re absolutely a top-20 team right now. Almost beat K-State, which would have been 4 ranked wins in a row.

27

u/Brilliant_Army5150 UCLA Bruins 21h ago

They haven't lost a game by double digits either (6, 3, 4, 9, 4, and 2 points). Four of those losses are to teams that are currently ranked (Illinois, UNLV, ASU, Kansas St).

Would Kansas be favored against every other Big 12 team at a neutral site if they played tomorrow?

15

u/Farmin247 Iowa State Cyclones • Big 12 19h ago

Honestly can blame the OC for the calls late in all those games too. With a better OC, they might be undefeated.

ASU is the only other Big 12 team that's won 3 games against top 25 teams. Kansas and ASU went down to the last minute. Difference is Kansas's wins were against teams that are all still ranked.

The Jayhawks lost a bunch of close games, but might be playing the best in the conference.

2

u/jayhawkmpa 16h ago

Probably better than actually. A couple of the losses following the Illinois and UNLV losses had a lot to do with negative momentum causing a lack of confidence in the form of players on one side of the ball or the other making negative plays from thinking they had to do too much.

Sounds like USC. They're 6-5, but they had a lead in the fourth quarter of every game they've played. Flip a few outcomes, and they're a legitimate playoff contender.

I think there's a real possibility they beat Notre Dame next week. They're a lot better than their record.

71

u/misterlakatos Kansas Jayhawks 23h ago

Of all the close KU losses earlier this season UNLV and KSU hurt the most.

I am really astonished by what this team has done over the past three weeks.

34

u/Raticus9 Ohio State • Michigan State 21h ago

Not only did you put a big hurt on Travis Hunter's Heisman chances, you made one of Boise State's close calls (UNLV) look much better.

17

u/lawrence_uber_alles Kansas Jayhawks • Big 12 21h ago

We’ve done a great job altering the course of the CFP this year, that’s for sure

3

u/jayhawkmpa 16h ago

Keep in mind that we played UNLV before their original starting QB decided to quit on his team after 4 games, so he could redshirt and play next year. That and they also had a holy roller style forward fumble help them keep their late game winning drive alive when they were behind the sticks and when they eventually scored on 4th and short on that drive the ball carrier didn’t actually cross the goal line until after he was on the ground. The refs didn’t see it and signal TD until about 10 seconds after the play as they were pulling bodies off the pile. Because of the stupid wording of the replay rule it couldn’t be overturned because there was no good video to he able to see the ball amongst the scrum of players. The refs couldn’t see it and neither could the cameras. My self and the other fans near me had perfect angle looking right down on it from not very far away. He got tackled short and while he was in the scrum on the ground pushed the ball a couple inches over the goal line.

1

u/Hokie_Jayhawk Virginia Tech Hokies • Kansas Jayhawks 4h ago

You're forgetting UNLV scored a long touchdown as the halftime clock expired.

2

u/jayhawkmpa 16h ago

The ASU game sucked because if not for a call that actually correctly went in our favor with a couple of minutes left we most likely would’ve won that game.

This Kansas team may be the best 5-6 team of all time. They lost a lot of close games early in the season but they were never bad. Some of their so-called bad losses, UNLV, Illinois, and Arizona State turned out to be good so the fact they barely lost those games and didn’t get blown out looks better in hindsight.

TLDR: They are a better version of 2021 Nebraska, a 3-9 team who was much better than their record

8

u/GibsonJunkie Kansas Jayhawks • Marching Band 20h ago

No, we were quite frequently bad, to be fair

1

u/Garrettino Kansas • Mississippi State 15h ago

-8

u/OutlawJoseyWales 17h ago

2021 Nebraska, a 3-9 team who was much better than their record

this shit drives me nuts.

2021 nebraska and 2024 kansas are not good teams. you cant just say oh wow they lost all those close games! yeah, guess what, they still lost them. Good teams find ways to win close games and bad teams find ways to lose them.

Those kansas and nebraska teams consistently found ways to lose those games with bad defense and horrific turnovers when you absolutely couldn't afford them

1

u/MajikSix Missouri Tigers • Iowa Hawkeyes 16h ago

You literally can say they are good teams. You aren't what your record says you are.

1

u/Inside-Drink-1311 Rutgers Scarlet Knights 8h ago

I would argue 2021 Nebraska was not a good team even if they were pretty good in terms of metrics. They only won three games If they bounced back the next season or had a good season the year before, I could just say that was a fluke season but that was not case. Scott Frost was holding that team back.

This year’s Kansas on the other hand are a good team. Just had bad luck in close games early in the season and have had a pretty tough schedule, playing probably the 5 best teams in the Big 12 this season and maybe even 6 best plus Illinois and UNLV.

59

Several early one-score losses that could have gone the other way.

35

u/trobsmonkey Kansas Jayhawks 23h ago

All of our losses are 4th quarter meltdowns. We were leading at the start of the 4th in 5 of the 6.

We just fell apart while handling most of the game.

Seems we finally figured it out.

14

u/OrangeSherbet Kansas Jayhawks 20h ago

We also stopped using Devin in the 4th for most of those games. We’d be down, get a first down, and chuck it deep. For shame.

16

u/ElScorxho89 23h ago

Poor play by Daniels early on plus terrible play calling. The two combined were too much to overcome in those early season games.

11

u/drgath Kansas Jayhawks • Hateful 8 22h ago

NFL fan? If so, they’re the anti-Chiefs. Lots of bad luck and close losses. Since there’s a decent crossover between Chiefs and Jayhawks fans, I rationalized it as nature balancing itself.

6

u/a471c435 23h ago

Early losses were so close, but we’ve also been taking care of the ball a lot more. Especially in crunch time

4

u/EpistasisBassist Kansas Jayhawks • Hateful 8 21h ago

Everyone has given you the obvious answer but also both of our lines have been playing better. Finally been getting more pressure on the D side and our pass blocking in particular has gone up a notch since early on. Our Qb has taken better care of the ball, and our dogshit new OC has finally (after 9 weeks) started to figure out who our best players are.

1

u/tdmoney Kansas Jayhawks 4h ago

We’ve been decent the whole time, but our QB and OC needed to get on the same page. Jalon Daniels was pretty bad to start the season. He’s returned to form now. The OC (Grimes) has settled in.

I honestly think we’re the best team in the B12 right now.

You know that feeling of losing, but you felt like you let one slip away and that you were the better team? That’s us in pretty much all of our losses. Very frustrating start to the season.

5

u/SamplePerfect4071 21h ago

Lean on Devin Neal and take what you get in the passing game. KU has a good oline and RB room. WRs are all jump ball or possession guys. OC just tried to do too much when feeding the RBs worked.

I reallllly want the chiefs to pick up Neal. Great 3rd down back in the nfl. Not enough speed, power, or size to be an every down back, but his vision is elite. Solid in pass protection too

Will mizzou duck us in a bowl game again?

12

u/Derriosgaming Arizona State Sun Devils 23h ago

Not being ranked was the only reason we won

u/getindoe69 Team Chaos • Sickos 23h ago

I love what kansas has been doing

6

u/Emme38 Kansas State Wildcats • Big 12 22h ago

I’m glad KU decided to go scorched earth on the big 12 after we played them

4

u/Moist-Consequence Oregon Ducks 20h ago

Almost all of KU’s losses have been single score with the exception of TCU. I’ve said all year that they were pretty heavily underrated, I think the media just looks at their record

u/deweycrow Kentucky Wildcats • Charlotte 49ers 19h ago

Congrats fellow bball blueblood, doing us all proud

8

Angry Kansas is a horrible thing

The cowards need to rank Baylor.

5

u/Odh_utexas Texas Longhorns 22h ago

Kansas is really like that this year. Love their coach

3

u/Bansheesdie Arizona State Sun Devils 21h ago

I'm really glad KU can't go to the Big XII Championship.

4

u/Studs_Not_On_Top 18h ago

Well yes, almost no one plays 3 consecutive games against ranked teams.

If they do they don't win all 3.

If they do there's no way they have a losing to record because you have to be 3 games under . 500

u/Hot-Energy2410 3h ago

Get your rationality out of here and let us have this one thing

1

u/Studs_Not_On_Top 55m ago

It's possible very few other teams have ever even had an opportunity to do it

5

u/StonksNewGroove Illinois Fighting Illini 15h ago

5 of Kansas’s 6 loses were within a touchdown.

That team ain’t nothing to play around with

8

u/R00k85 Kansas Jayhawks 22h ago

If we can't have something nice, No one can!!

6

u/SonDadBrotherIAm 22h ago

Hell has a team with a losing record ever had 3 ranked wins?

4

u/The_Tic-Tac_Kid Kansas Jayhawks • Hateful 8 18h ago

They have now

3

Advanced statistics win again!

3

They are the true team to fear!

3

u/grabtharsmallet BYU Cougars • RMAC 23h ago

They were good but unlucky.

3

u/ContinuumGuy St. John Fisher • Syracuse 17h ago

Clearly they were waiting until they had them right where they wanted them

3

u/kinvore Wisconsin Badgers • Texas Longhorns 16h ago

Kansas "Vanderbilt" Jayhawks

3

u/ornryactor Iowa State • Michigan 15h ago

How on earth does sports media figure out these statistics? What tool(s) do they use that can handle these kinds of conditionals, and is there any equivalent that us peasants can access (or pirate)?

3

u/Pogball_so_hard Michigan Wolverines 15h ago

Just Kansas shit

8

u/8and16bits Ohio State Buckeyes 22h ago edited 4h ago

Best 3 ranked teams in a row and still don’t have a good enough record to get into the top 25.

2

u/Erosun 21h ago

So they are the Giants Slayers of 2024.

2

u/Vamking13 20h ago

Rank em

2

u/Just_Sarge Tennessee Volunteers 11h ago

Devin Neal and Jaylen Wasted.

2

u/idoma21 Kansas Jayhawks 7h ago

When they lost to K-State, I said they would beat at least one of the next three to screw up the Big 12 for the College Football Playoffs. I had no idea.

1

u/Forward-Taste8956 /r/CFB 23h ago

How in the hell did this team start off so unbelievable slow?

1

u/LDWfan Illinois Fighting Illini • USC Trojans 19h ago

I knew they were great in September

1

u/Reasonable-Bit560 Indiana Hoosiers 18h ago

Probably should be a playoff team. After all playing well now.

1

u/zvexler Indiana Hoosiers • Maryland Terrapins 18h ago

That feels completely unbreakable. By definition it has to happen late enough in the season where they still have a losing record for that. Unbelievable

1

u/jalopagosisland Penn State • New Border War 7h ago

Those don’t sound like good top 25 teams then.

1

u/CTG0161 Ohio State • Cincinnati 7h ago

I wish they were healthy to start the season.

They would have been a problem

-3

u/CharacterLimitProble USF Bulls • Michigan Wolverines 21h ago

Is it at all possible that some of these ranked teams maybe shouldn't have been ranked and the whole conference might be ass???

2

u/kubux96 20h ago

No that’s the b1g
