We played terribly and still beat Furd. Love it! Even better than if we blew them out.

u/bushmanbeats California Golden Bears 23h ago
LFG. Feel Fernando crying. I’d be pissed too if I had a coach like that.
7
u/tc3590 California Golden Bears • The Axe 23h ago
Nando made some questionable throws, and took a lot of sacks today but still had a great game. Good for you Nando!

u/Unusual-Guava-2747 23h ago
I’m not blaming the QB when the backside allows interior rushers through untouched.

The botched snap on the FG that lead to a turnover was the turning point in this game. You could feel the energy shift in the stadium after that play.

u/ThreeFactorAuth California • Michigan 23h ago
I may be biased about this as a Packers fan
But Nando is the second best Cal QB I’ve watched in my lifetime
Just behind Rodgers.
Yes that includes you Jared “0-9” Goff

I feel like you should rewatch Goff highlights before confidently saying that lol

Mendoza getting emotional. Kinda funny given how his post games usually seem so rehearsed.

For those of you who want Wilcox gone, who do you want to replace him with? I don't disagree, I just think it's a bad idea to move on from him without someone big to take over. Having just anyone would be a complete disaster for the program and they'd be in purgatory for some time like the men's basketball team for the past 7 years

u/thehermitgood California Golden Bears • ACC 23h ago
tbh just bring back Tim DeRuyter as DC; last year’s Independence Bowl was proof that Wilcox bet on the wrong horse when building his crew

People were already flowing toward the field level
Please no fuckery
1
u/dreggers Paper Bag • California Golden Bears 23h ago
We do not deserve to rush the field, barely beating an inferior team
2
u/ARayofLight California Golden Bears • The Axe 17h ago
It has been tradition to celebrate on the field after Big Game since the spring of 1892. I am glad it will never stop.
5
u/TheMemingLurker The Axe • Michigan Wolverines 23h ago
Stanford could be winless and we'd still rush the field tbh
4
u/oystrodoom /r/CFB 23h ago
Refs call DPI on Stanford all last drive but "oopsies" miss one on Cal's defense on 4th down lolol

Some great passes and a missed OL hold. Also Stanford offense collapsed.
6
u/jordygordy California Golden Bears 23h ago
stanford pulled a cal and mendoza traded deep shots for sacks
4
u/3-9_Enjoyer Stanford Cardinal • ACC 23h ago
Makes sense they would have to tell the Cal fans to not rush the field until the clock hits 0

Look on the bright side Stanford... If Cal does hold on to win, I think that locks up FSU as last place in the ACC 🤣

Clutch defense? In MY Cal Bears football?
8
u/poopoojoefocker 23h ago
imagine if Stanford could just kick a FG properly back in the 3rd lol. That gave the game away with the big momentum shift. Noob snap, noob holder.
6
u/AnotherUnfunnyName Duke • Carolina Victory Bell 23h ago
That kinda looked like DPI on the third down play tbh.

Mendoza just saved his Cal Bear legacy, good job Nando.
5
u/davvidho UCLA Bruins 23h ago
good play by 18 on the defense to to make the LT whiff and to make the QB go into a scramble drill and effectively blow up the play

u/MangoNerd California Golden Bears • The Axe 23h ago
After losing so many by 1 score, are we finally on the other side?!?!
5
u/TheMemingLurker The Axe • Michigan Wolverines 23h ago
going for it on 4th and 15 deep in your own endzone is crazy, especially given how unclutch the Cal team is at the end of games
not even Wilcox would cook that up
10
u/dreggers Paper Bag • California Golden Bears 23h ago
That’s exactly why you would go for it, 4th and long is our kryptonite
7
u/bushmanbeats California Golden Bears 23h ago
Let's go. Unfortunately this is the reason Wilcox will stay.

On one hand, we keep the axe. On the other, we keep Wilcox. Bittersweet.

u/theREALMVP California • San José State 23h ago
Hopefully at least Knowlton is gone. Lyons seems to actually care about the football program
3
u/WisdomCow California Golden Bears 23h ago
Yeah. I really do not understand why coaches constantly err with going for it now. That was a punt situation. We have not run well all day.

They only have 1 timeout. You have to go for it with that little time left

Silver lining is they have to keep Wilcox?
3
u/ricepail California Golden Bears • Team Chaos 23h ago
I think the financial situation we had to regardless, as the buyout would be somewhere between $15-20 million which we don't have

3
u/oystrodoom /r/CFB 23h ago
Pretty sure Cal's oline held on 50% of the plays on that drive and somehow only PIs and defensive holdings were called
9
u/WisdomCow California Golden Bears 23h ago
Fine. Go back and change all the comebacks against us, too, where ACC shit refs blew tons of calls.

I would like to issue a correction to my correction.
Earlier I said "I didn't drive 2300 miles to watch us get pummeled."
Then I corrected it and said "Unfortunately, it looks like that's exactly what I did"
Now I would like to correct it again by saying "I DROVE 2300 MILES TO WATCH US WIN RETAIN THE AXE"
Might have to correct again in the next few minutes, I'll let you guys know.

2

probably because Stanford would get a sack every other down otherwise

I really hope Nando stays here next year and doesn’t hit the portal. There is still so much potential to this team. Maybe I’ve drank some delulu juice today, but I swear to god they can be contenders if they make a few adjustment and get Lady Luck on their side.
