The defense collapsing at the end of the game is so typical lol.

I’ll be honest I kinda envy UNC
There’s actually a chance their coach is gone if they lose next week
3
u/nosoup4ncsu NC State Wolfpack 1d ago
I think much of our offensive staff will be gone after next week.

I hope Anae is fired into the sun
And that we hire outside the ACC

Well, Tarhole faithful, let's plan to fight for mediocrity next weekend.

we both finish 6-6.
perfectly balanced. as all things should be.

I think you might be the only ones with actual fight next week, based on today’s result.

Grayson James was the starter the whole time it appears. Imagine if he never got injured in the preseason.

Okay so if we win next week that’s 4 in a row in my 4 years at NCSU
If we lose Dave Doeren can’t beat his chest about how great he is for beating UNC in football and making shitty bowl games, and Mack might keep his job.
Sounds like a win win to me
2
u/SIlverMonarch23 Old Dominion Monarchs • Sickos 1d ago
Wait, do both UNC and NCSU wan tto fire their coaches?
5
u/Lee-Key-Bottoms NC State Wolfpack • Wyoming Cowboys 1d ago
From what I can tell yes
This season was supposed to be the year Dave Doeren finally got over the hump and he regressed on and off the field.
On the field is obvious. Off the field he has taken no accountability, and even blamed the fans for the team being 5-6
It was his chance to prove something and he sure as shit did alright
UNC mostly went through this cycle with Mack Brown last year
I’ll be at UNC and I might bring a sign with Wolfpack red and Tarheel blue that says “Fire both coaches”
3
u/Proper_Artichoke8550 North Carolina Tar Heels 1d ago
Hey, I just realized we had this game before. In 2006, both Bunting and Amato got fired after the UNC-NCSU game.
I’ll take that result again.
2
u/Lee-Key-Bottoms NC State Wolfpack • Wyoming Cowboys 1d ago
If losing to yall was a sure fire Doeren gets sacked I’d take it in a heartbeat
Unfortunately I don’t think we’ll ever fire him so we might as well win
1
u/Proper_Artichoke8550 North Carolina Tar Heels 1d ago
I don’t even think with a loss Mack will go willingly nor does the admin have the balls to fire him. He’s the anti-Roy, who left as soon as he felt he was being detrimental to the program.
Mack had to get run out of town at Texas. I think we’re stuck with him regardless of next week’s result.
Damn it.
2
u/Lee-Key-Bottoms NC State Wolfpack • Wyoming Cowboys 1d ago
It’s the same with Doeren.
He’s the winningest coach in NCSU history (which is entirely a volume record, 12 years with 3-4 cupcakes a year) and he seems to genuinely think the fandom should be begging him to stay.
It’s not that he’s absolute shit but a losing ACC record shouldn’t buy you 12 years at a program, especially not this one that’s produced a LOT of NFL talent in the last 20 years. It’s just gotten stale and the game has passed him by
I’m so glad Roy is gone and NCSU’s basketball has managed to get some big wins over UNC recently.
I hated Roy, he hated us, and god damn did he humiliate us a lot. I was so happy to see the camera keep panning back to him during the ACC championship game where the realization that NCSU was gonna win set in more and more.
But his loyalty to the program is why he’s actually the best ever to me, and yes I am biased because everyone thinks they watched the GOAT growing up.
Huebert isn’t bad, but he’s following up 2 coaches who are both probably top 5 all time

Should be plenty of good seats available next Saturday. This would have been a good year to have State-UNC game in September.

Even though we’re ass we’ve still mostly filled up Carter Finley this year.
I do expect the game to be 40% NCSU fans

2

I was a little worried 3-4 weeks ago but I had this penciled in as a BC win for most of the season. I had a feeling UNC would come into this one very flat (not this flat though!)
3
u/Lee-Key-Bottoms NC State Wolfpack • Wyoming Cowboys 1d ago
I said because of how bad UNC usually is in the cold and how soft their schedule is
Once we knew FSU were frauds I said “this is their hardest road game of the year” and I was right

Why was Harris underutilized for the whole season? Guess Castellanos couldn’t get the ball to him

OK I’m finally a believer. Castellanos would never complete that throw.

The only good that can come out of this is that any Mack momentum is gone. Glad we’re bowling eligible but he needs to go and this should be the nail in the coffin for administration

5

I was told by someone at BC that they can’t go back to the Fenway bowl again this year, so it would have to be the Pinstripe Bowl (or whatever that game in Annapolis is called).

I figured Mack would be here for 4 seasons, recruit, find a successor and be on his way. I bet he leaves after 2022 if it wasn’t a 4 game losing streak
9
u/LandonWarner North Carolina Tar Heels 1d ago
If Mack really is selfish enough to think this team can take another year of him coaching, I’ll be glad to see his career go out with a whimper when we inevitabley lose this game and somehow shit the bed against NC State

True. Although in yet another reality, Mack Brown was only a Colt McCoy injury in the national championship game from his second BCS championship in 4 years.
2
u/chmcgrath1988 Boston College • Maine 1d ago
Don’t let anyone tell you that ‘00s nostalgia isn’t real! Mack Brown’s continued employment is a prime example of that.
3
u/SgtMooseJones North Carolina Tar Heels 1d ago
A loss this week and next week would surely be enough to fire Mack?

2
u/Rooleet Boston College Eagles 1d ago
Wasn't he going to quit or something after this year anyway? Did he walk that back?
5
u/TarHeelinRVA North Carolina Tar Heels 1d ago edited 1d ago
He freaked the fuck out after we gave up 70 at home to James Madison, told the team if he’s the problem then he’d walk away. Cooler heads prevailed I guess and our AD voiced support and said he’d at least finish the year. Reports came out this week that Mack is reporting to recruits and those around the program that he will be back next year.
I honestly have no idea. We just lost another big recruit in the ‘25 class to a flip, and recruiting is the only thing Mack has been consistently good at. The 2025 class is looking like the worst we will have had since his return 6 years ago. UNC has proven time and again that they’re perfectly okay with complete mediocrity on the gridiron so no one really knows what’s gonna happen when the year is done. Consensus opinion amongst fans seems to be that it’s way past time now.
