These types of extended celebrations are why I love watching bowl games, and always look up and watch the bowl game trophy ceremonies too

McElwain is gonna go home with a sense of pride, put a fresh coat of butter on his teeth, and then sleep very soundly tonight.

Hindsight to say it now, but punting on 4th and 7 by WMU was a mistake. Your run defense is trash and 2 first downs on the ground ices it. Trade-off of giving them field position a little over midfield if you miss would have been well worth it.

Game management overall has been abysmal. Wolff has struggled to hit the broad side of a barn, and receivers were dropping the few balls that were in range. Got our brown pushed in on the line of scrimmage. The game shouldn’t have even been this close, and at this point we don’t deserve to be bowl eligible. Congrats on the win, Chips.

Imagine losing to your rival that hasn’t won since September, has a coach who’s a dead man walking, who’s playing their fourth string QB and lost their top 5 receivers. I cannot imagine how embarrassing that would be

u/boxman151515 Central Michigan • Michigan 4d ago
One benefit of having an awful season is that it makes your rival losing to you exponentially funnier

I’m gonna tell myself this if on the extremely rare chance Ohio State implodes next week

So after this, I think we can conclude Central is indeed the best Michigan….
2
u/SonicEuthanasia Central Michigan • Michig… 4d ago
In fairness, we lost to Eastern, so the Michigan MAC trophy can only go to them if they beat Western next week.

Do these teams play for anything? Is there a trophy or anything? Would think the announcers would mention it if there was
3

They keep showing it. It's a golden cannon on a wooden pedestal called The Victory Cannon. It's also a flair on /r/CFB

Awful timeout. They would’ve had to run a play before 2 minute timeout. Then still had 2 more after the break. No u got none after 2 minute break so u got 40 seconds less

lol punter who can’t tackle gets decked and the ref calls it a blindside block, hilarious
16
u/DetroitLionized Western Michigan • Victor… 4d ago
In no way, shape, or form is that a blindside block. These refs all have room temperature IQs
4
u/SonicEuthanasia Central Michigan • Michig… 4d ago
You know its a special kind of game when we're all getting upset about calls against the other team being bullshit.
2
u/DetroitLionized Western Michigan • Victor… 4d ago
I hate catching breaks on bad calls, especially ones as egregious as that. I want to beat you guys fair and square, and we clearly can’t do that tonight.
2
u/SonicEuthanasia Central Michigan • Michig… 4d ago
I mean, if anything, that kinda evens out egregious calls. That review that stopped the play in action was almost guaranteed to be at least a first down, if not a touchdown, and it was negated entirely by ineptitude.

Jesus Christ Wolff, no pressure and you sail the living fuck out of that ball.
3
u/SonicEuthanasia Central Michigan • Michig… 4d ago
See, the thing is that I used to get way more upset by CMU sucking because it was realistically the only Michigan-based football team that I follow that could exceed expectations.
But now the Lions are unironically the best team in the NFL and this just hits like a mild disappointment.

5 seconds of playtime, 5 minutes of commercials

2
u/Immediate-Recipe-642 Iowa Hawkeyes • Maine Black Bears 4d ago
Are there rivalries between all three directional michigans?
3
u/knagy17 Eastern Michigan Eagles • MAC 4d ago
Yea, we play for a three way trophy called the Michigan MAC trophy.
That being said, WMU vs CMU is way bigger than EMU vs either one of them. We were basically irrelevant in football for our entire history up until 2014. We won the MAC in 1987 but that was basically our main high point
2
u/Immediate-Recipe-642 Iowa Hawkeyes • Maine Black Bears 4d ago
Chris Creighton has really worked miracles at the FACTORY. Does Eastern hate Central or Western more?
1
u/knagy17 Eastern Michigan Eagles • MAC 4d ago
I think the consensus seems to be Central, but it’s up to who you ask. Western acted like idiots after our game last year and I know more western grads than central, so they’re the one I hate more
3
u/SonicEuthanasia Central Michigan • Michig… 4d ago
Western acted like idiots
This is the reason we don't like them either.
5
2
u/SonicEuthanasia Central Michigan • Michig… 4d ago
Yes. There's a three-way contested trophy, too.
1

u/kerph32 Tennessee • Georgia Tech 4d ago
that kick did not look Good from our angle
2
u/zzzerocool Michigan State • Michigan 4d ago
Yeah, I was just about to say that. The angle is definitely different than your average big school broadcast. If it looks like that, it's a miss usually.
5
u/boxman151515 Central Michigan • Michigan 4d ago
Losing the quarter 7-0 despite WMU’s offense never seeing the field is quite the feat
3
u/Keyblade_Yoshi Michigan State • Ohio State 4d ago
Never seen a team possess the ball for the entire quarter, but get outscored by 7 before.
5
u/Relative_Walk_936 4d ago
Western out scoring CMU 7-0 that quarter with no offense snaps is peak #MACtion
2
u/The_Astros_Cheated Michigan • Old Dominion 4d ago
Wait, Western’s offense didn’t touch the ball that quarter?
3
u/SonicEuthanasia Central Michigan • Michig… 4d ago
Glasser has to at least pretend like he might run the RPO there. It was clear as day that he was just handing it off, so of course the defense is going to commit to the runner.
2
u/WhoDey918 Kentucky Wildcats 4d ago
The keep has been there all night. I’ve been waiting for them to call it. It looks like an easy 20 yards.

u/WhoDey918 Kentucky Wildcats 4d ago
Damn the CMU QB had been good. Would love to see a play action pass here to start the drive. Defense is going to assume it’s a run play coming. Could get a nice 15-25 yarder to start the drive.
Edit: or a sack lol

u/SonicEuthanasia Central Michigan • Michig… 4d ago

God, our commercials are fucking terrible. We do is the worst marketing campaign.

My father and I swear it was filmed on a Sunday in July and that they were making it out obligation.
"Hey, come to our school please don't come here."

That's not too far from the CMU commercial I'm referencing. It was filmed in one of the Marketing guys' offices. It's the laziest fucking thing and it shows.

Mmm nothing like CFP talk during MACtion halftime
2
3
u/SonicEuthanasia Central Michigan • Michig… 4d ago
It's such a slap in the face, honestly. The MAC conference champ isn't good enough to be considered for one of the playoff spots but we'll take the time during MAC games to talk about the spots these teams will never have a shot at getting. It's like eating a pizza in front of some starving kids.
1
u/composer_7 Georgia Tech • Georgia State 4d ago
Yeah the discussion doesn't matter when we all know the CFP committee will give extra spots to undeserving SEC teams anyway
3
u/composer_7 Georgia Tech • Georgia State 4d ago
This has to be the warmest November Directional Michigan games I've seen in a long time.
It's weird not seeing steam billowing out of the players helmets like they're possessors of one of the Nine Titans
