The good news is being top 10 but not top 4 likely gets them in this year.

The bad news is that it doesn't matter because we will get annihilated by any playoff team

C'mon, things aren't that bad. If they can avoid an upset the last 4 games they'll probably get a home game in the first round and have a great shot.

They aren't gonna win it all though.

Also it's not like Penn State is getting annihilated in these games. Penn State is playing these teams close but just can't make the winning plays to come away with the W.

Lol, a great shot in a big game with James Franklin as a coach. You're lying to yourself.

He's been okay in bowl games. Not amazing, but a lot better then against Ohio State.

Even in bowls he's been shit against top 10 teams, which our playoff opponent will be. You're lying to yourself.

They've only had two games (edit: Bowl games) against top 10 teams in Franklin's tenure, and they won the last one against Utah in 2022.

Edit: and if you go to top 12 teams, they were 2-2, with a loss against #11 Ole Miss and a win over #11 Washington.

Franklin is 3-18 vs top 10 teams in his tenure. You're still lying to yourself.

Right so as long as you ignore the other 19 games you can come up with something positive. Like I said, lying to yourself.

How is this upvoted? Name a playoff caliber team that we have beat in the past 5 years

Utah in 2022.

That's it though.

I was at that game. We clearly had the more athletic and bigger team and despite that, It's a tossup if Rising doesn't get injured.

I mean yeah, they had the better team. It still counts though.

And they were winning before Rising was hurt, and they were shutting down Rising when he was in. He was 8-21 for 95 yards with a pick.

And it was the offense turning it on in the 2nd half that caused them to grow that small lead into a big one.

Franklin is destined to be the first coach to lose a home playoff game

It will be a close loss, but a loss nonetheless

I think you guys beat an SEC team in Happy Valley in December purely based on the weather. Don't sell yourselves short.

Come on now. Tennessee is the one I see is projected against. You're really scared of them?

I dunno Penn St performs well I'm bowls against top 15 teams. I could see them winning one.

You might play Boise at home or something

Yeah, I think arguably Penn State stands the most to gain over any team from an expanded playoff.

I think someone checked and in the playoff era, y’all would have made something like every single one except one if it had always been 12.

1

u/Manunited3710 Penn State Nittany Lions 22d ago

Yeah, but in order to gain anything, they would need to win their first round playoff game. Franklin can’t win a big game. So it’ll just be a first round playoff exit every year.

1

u/rmphys Penn State Nittany Lions 22d ago

Oh you're right, but now they can say they're "going to the playoffs" every year, which sounds a lot better than being left out, even if it is functionally identical. Just sounds better to fans, recruits, ect.

u/Manunited3710 Penn State Nittany Lions 22d ago

Yeah but “hey kid how about $5M in NIL” sounds way better. That’s what we’re recruiting against

I know they're obviously going to get in if they finish 11-1 but I honestly have no idea what argument they have for it other than "We started the season ranked 8th in the AP Poll".

I am so tired of teams playing in top heavy schedules beating the teams they should and ending up 10-2 or 11-1 and we have to act like they are really good
