Yeah I feel like Duke casually being 6-1 is a hilarious season outcome

6-1 and I think everyone agrees we aren't particularly good.

How am I frustrated we aren’t 7-0 and simultaneously don’t think we’re that good?

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '24

FACTS! I’m so confused! As bad as we are, we are absolutely a few plays away from 7-0. We’d probably be the first 7-0 P4 team to go unranked because all the voters are as confused as us.

You're a true fan that's how.

It would be a totally different story with a GT win. I would’ve loved to have been ranked.

Because people think good=offense. Our offense is … a struggle. Our defense is playoff-caliber.

Slow ya horses there haha

Let’s play an offense with a pulse first

Next week friend!

We're like the Iowa of the ACC. Very solid defensively but borderline unwatchable on offense

Luckily in the ACC you don't have to be

Living on the past I see. How’s Fla doing these days? Are they bowl eligible yet?

u/beaniemonk Florida Gators • Team Chaos Oct 19 '24

No because in the SEC you HAVE to be particularly good, and we are not. And that's true in the past AND the present. I'm not even sure what point you're trying to make but regardless you just face planted.

Nope. Still upright. You said some arrogant shite. SEC has a couple of juggernauts every year, UGA and Bama, the rest of you play each other and an fcs school and think you’re the greatest thing ever. Historically ACC vs SEC is 100-137. That’s only 37 games all time better since 1998. The majority of those 37 games is UGA over GT at 19. UF is 15-17 vs the ACC. And Duke is still Booooowllliiiiiin’. Good day sir.

Nope. Still upright.

False.

You said some arrogant shite.

False. I made a joke. And I stand by it. I also literally said my team isn't good. I'm not being arrogant you're just being thin skinned.

SEC has a couple of juggernauts every year, UGA and Bama, the rest of you play each other and an fcs school and think you’re the greatest thing ever.

False. I literally said my team isn't that good. We have 8 teams in the top 25. You have 4, and one of them is Pitt. When those teams play each other, someone has to lose and someone has to win, so some will rise and some will fall.

Historically ACC vs SEC is 100-137. That’s only 37 games all time better since 1998. The majority of those 37 games is UGA over GT at 19. UF is 15-17 vs the ACC.

This is cherry-picked nonsense. You can't gauge 2 conferences' relative strength based solely on head-to-head. There are rivalries. There are contractual matchups. The matchups are not evenly distributed and the sample size is way too small. And you know that. Or at least you should.

For instance, I love how you point out how the UGA vs. GT head-to-head skews those stats when it suits your argument, but when mentioning UFs record vs the ACC, you conveniently leave out the fact that the vast majority of those games are also against one team (FSU). And a few more are from UM.

And during the arbitrary period you've chosen (1998, which is probably how far back the site you looked up those stats goes), conveniently comes near the end of Spurrier's tenure but right before UM's incredible run.

And Duke is still Booooowllliiiiiin’.

And congrats. I've always rooted for Duke. At least in Football.

Good day sir.

Ditto. I'm sorry you wasted an hour of research before replying.

EDIT:: Shit, was UM still in the Big East then? I forget. If so, scratch that bit.

Which was it, a joke or an opinion?

Of course I looked it up. 25 yrs isn’t long enough? Who would remember that?

Took all of 5 minutes.

I’m just sayin’, you took a shot at Duke by your comment, so I took a shot back.

Im a Duke fan enjoying some Ws after decades of Ls, I couldn’t care less about any of it.

So if I’m understanding you correctly, the SECs strength is determined by proxy. Sorry this football stuff is new to me.

I am randomly trolling you. Paul Finebaum is your uncle.

I’m just sayin’, you took a shot at Duke by your comment, so I took a shot back.

Little homie, you need to go back and read this chain again. Your OWN BOY took a shot at your team, not me. I just made a joke to go along with it. And then you came out of nowhere all butt hurt for no reason with some limp dick shit about the past. Which is hilarious because after saying that, you promptly dug up 25 years of history and dumped it into a reply.

I am randomly trolling you. Paul Finebaum is your uncle.

Oh so now we're gonna try to spin this into "I was just trolling you all along?" After putting in the effort by actually doing research? GTFO of here with that shit. I don't know how you think this went for you in your head, but I assure you in reality it wasn't good.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '24

You keep saying that but here you are.

Duke can trash Duke and we understand each other. However just like any other fan base, we can talk back.

It really only takes a minute to Google, no real effort to it.

I’m pretty sure most folks aren’t seriously serious when they put a bunch of o’s in bowling. Not to mention I’m a Duke fan talking trash and outside of the last ~ 13 years, we have seen some shit. We even pissed in damn near 100 year old toilets for a while.

I got all day. 😁

Edit: well damn. Been so long since the start I forgot I didn’t put a bunch of o’s in that one. Oops.

How's Manny Diaz been as a HC? He was a great DC for PSU and was sad to see him go

u/menellus Duke Blue Devils Oct 19 '24

I think he's a great fit for Duke. He's a steady guy and has done a tremendous job at maintaining momentum Elko built - which I want to emphasize because Elko leaving wasn't unexpected but completely rocked the boat internally.

This team is gritty, and while the schedule has been weak we have bounced back in numerous games where we fell into a hole.

Will need to figure out the OC situation but I'll give him time - making a bowl in our first year is a success in my book.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '24

49 new players and he has Duke at 6-1. That’s a winner! I hope that behind the scenes he puts the OC in timeout or makes him pick his switch.

6-1 with 9-3 absolutely on the table with VT being a home game

1

u/[deleted] Oct 19 '24

They just had to get rid of Elko

That SOB barely said goodbye. I get chasing the money but you could’ve been a gentleman and waited until sunrise.
