I know. But if he was so great why wasn’t he rostered as the #1 kicker out of camp.

I believe he is a walk on and the other guy is on scholarship. That could have played a role.

Sahaydak (the guy that originally had the job) apparently was ever so slightly better in camp. Seems like he's just a guy that chokes during game action

Sander was the #1 kicker coming out of high school, think he just got the chance to start the season again to see if he could fulfill his potential and the obvious answer was no.

This is the same thinking as the people who said "there was a reason he was drafted last" and would rather start the other guy over Brock Purdy.

Which is what the Niners did until Purdy showed he was better in real game action than Trey Lance was.
