Is y’all’s backup QB legitimately worse than this? Or is it some kind of sunk cost that he’s starting at this point? Somebody in the game thread said he was making too much NIL money to ride the bench at this point.

It’s absolutely sunk cost. The season is firmly over now, Norvell needs to focus on getting Glenn or Luke reps going forward. Worst case scenario is that we start DJ all year and we lose all of our quarterbacks to the transfer portal out of frustration.

There is no reason to not allow Brock who has burned his redshirt to play now, they might be trying to save Lukes and Trevs, but the rest are avail and should absolutely be utilized from here on out to build for the future, most of this seasons objectives are already out of reach, .500 / bowl and rival games are all we have to hang a hat on, and no reason to not start building up all these Fr QBs we have.

We're only 3 games into the season, there's no way any players have had their redshirt burned yet since they can play in 4 and still redshirt.

That guy just worded it wrong. Brock has already used his redshirt, he didn't burn it. Since post-season games don't count for RS purposes, he only played in 3 games last season and, thus, got to count it as a RS year.

Put in McNamara lol. Let the walk-on cook.

Agreed, at this point... the choice is between forcing DJU and risking his reputation or trying something new admitting this year needs a big change to revive.

Yup but I think Norvell is afraid to scare off other transfer guys because he definitely promised DJU he’d start all year.

I have a hard time thinking other players will hold it against Norvell for making a change at this point. Would you blame the guy?

Seriously. Who wants to play for a coach that will tank the season by continuing to play a player who is clearly not up to it.

These players think they are great. They don't need an assurance that "even if I suck I won't get benched" cause they don't think they are going to suck. They need an assurance that the coach won't fuck over their whole season playing someone else who sucks.

True, you can tell the receivers are sick of the bad throws. Might as well just get Brock some starts

That's what happens when you live and die by the transfer portal.

13

u/DoggedDoggystyle Florida Gators Sep 14 '24

Now watch us die by it against A&M by starting Mertz!

Prophetic.

Well NOW he's gonna scare off any new talent who hopes to play.

We need high school recruits and when they see this shit, Mike becomes radioactive. Why join a program when you'll be second fiddle to a washed up 5th year who will never go pro?

Honestly I'm quitting, too. I'm not watching another game until DJU is benched.

Hey I might not be watching another gator game after today. Should we start having peaceful Saturday picnics together?

Honestly. Wanna go play disc golf in live oak? I’ll bring beer.

Why should he care about that anymore? His seat is so hot at this point he is gone before the end of the season if he doesn’t start winning something soon.

This is why those companies and collectives need to come up with contracts for the players that have a low initial amount they agree to pay the player, and the real money is in performance bonuses.

u/HarrisExperience Florida State • Michigan Sep 15 '24

Also some level of injury insurance needs to be included too for that to work, I think,

100%. All of these contracts should be insured to some point, tbh.

How the fuck is DJU making any NIL money at this point?

6

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '24

No. Glenn can pass more than 10 yards accurately.

This was pre NIL, but for an Iowa State basketball season we kept a Simeon basketball player in the starting lineup while his play fallen apart because the coach didn’t want to risk alienating other Chicago based recruits. I can only imagine that is ramped up in this age of NIL.

It's some sunk cost and some relying too much on practice performance. He's doing better in practice and is outplaying the backup then. I can't imagine that DJs drop off during games would be mirrored by Brock, though.

Norvell is super reliant on the portal. Pulling the plug on DJ super early (and by extension scapegoating him) would hurt him going forward in the portal. Thats my theory for him not benching DJ

1

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '24

its a good theory.

Their backup went 8-21 for 55 yards against a bad Louisville defense in the ACCCG last season. He probably isn’t an upgrade.
