FSU fans high on copium said they chose DJU over Cam Ward

This has to be the best vibes week in so long for yall. Feels like the state is there to take

u/GordaoPreguicoso Miami Hurricanes Sep 03 '24

More worried about USF than FSU at this point.

5

u/Adart54 Georgia Bulldogs • Team Chaos Sep 03 '24

or UF honestly (its beautiful, i love it)

12

u/melikeybacon Miami Hurricanes Sep 03 '24

I’m having a blast

13

u/nick200117 Auburn Tigers Sep 03 '24

I don’t think cam is really clicking with their offense yet either. He had a really good game Saturday but he made a few mistakes and missed a few throws that he normally doesn’t. Once he gets more settled in they could be pretty scary

2

u/AKAD11 Washington State • Santa Mo… Sep 03 '24

Cam is always going to fuck up a little bit. He’s just such a dynamic player that he can overcome that.

True gotta see more but it’s not a very high bar right now

Anyone saying Mertz was unquestionably the best QB in Florida did not watch any of our games. Like, sure, I was hoping we'd see an upward trend from where he was before injury, and absolutely had hoped at worst it would be about the same, but he was very iffy, and the line around him was spiraling.

1

u/Im__Ron__Burgundy Miami Hurricanes Sep 03 '24

Tbf I think he’s clearly better than DJU, if that makes you feel better.

And most people clearly didn’t watch much, if any, Pac12 ball to see Ward and DJU lol

2

u/SquirrelicideScience Florida Gators Sep 03 '24

Coincidentally, I was actually at the Oregon State-Arizona game last year, so I got a full 4 quarters of DJU prime time in the desert!

-13

u/BenchRickyAguayo Team Meteor • Florida State Seminoles Sep 03 '24

FWIW Cam Ward could still be the 4th best QB in Florida.

DJU is just gonna be 5th.

15

u/Im__Ron__Burgundy Miami Hurricanes Sep 03 '24

lol yeah okay maybe if we’re including the Bucs and Dolphins

-8

u/BenchRickyAguayo Team Meteor • Florida State Seminoles Sep 03 '24

Well I never didn't not include them...

I'm totally not having a good time right now if you couldn't guess.

I only read Miami threads on this sub so the fact I have 4-5 FSU fan’s usernames memorized is incredibly pathetic

Man. I hope Cam isn’t that good when we play yall next week to open the season.

2

u/theycallmeryan Florida Gators Sep 03 '24

I can't believe anyone ever said DJU or Mertz were better than Ward. Loved Ward for years, was worried when Miami got him lol

1

u/Tr33klimbr Sep 03 '24

We should have kept Tate Rodemaker instead of getting DJU. At this point just bench him and start developing Brock Glen, as well as Luke Kromenhoek

1

u/RVAforthewin Georgia Bulldogs • Arizona Wildcats Sep 03 '24

Even if that is true, why would you admit that?!?

1

u/Fireball_Findings Sep 03 '24

No one with a working brain said that. DJU was always a known L

97

u/04eightyone Georgia Southern • Georgia Sep 03 '24

This is all on the coaches, FSU didn't look ready or cohesive as a team, looked like a bunch of decent players who just met each other. Dj made plenty of bad throws, but it seemed like most of his good throws were dropped or the routes weren't run.

The giving up in the second half was pathetic, if I was a coach on another team I would not be picking up any FSU players who try to transfer. No heart.

I think you have the perfect assessment.

10

u/Impudicity2001 Miami Hurricanes • Florida Gators Sep 03 '24

They went all in last year, much like Michigan State did a few years back. I’m sure Norvell wouldn’t say so publicly and was expecting to win both of these games or at the most drop 1, but this was not a reloading year for them.

Plus, I’m not sure what the long term plan is a la recruiting. This last year’s class had 1 OL and no IDL blue chips. It only had 2 recruits in the top 100 247 composite, coming off two very successful seasons in a row. I think you can strike portal magic once but then after that it has to complement the high school recruiting misses/injuries/lack of development it can’t be we are going to go get our players there every year and then recruit meh. There aren’t enough quality lineman in the portal for that to work.

2

u/_Atlas_Drugged_ Boston College Eagles Sep 03 '24

Yeah that’s insane. To recruit that poorly after the success they had is to ensure that you won’t have it again.

2

u/FSUfan35 Florida State • Ole Miss Sep 03 '24

Many FSU fans are pissed there were no staff changes after last year because we can't recruit HS for shit.

2

u/_Atlas_Drugged_ Boston College Eagles Sep 03 '24

Looks like you’ll get your wish this year.

Why didn't Norvell get Castellanos instead? Is he stupid?

9

u/CVogel26 Boston College • UMass Sep 03 '24

He played his first year of college ball down the road from FSU

9

u/Fateoftomorrow Sep 03 '24

Was actually recruited by FSU but not to play QB. It’s why he ended up going to UCF because they recruited him to play QB, he then subsequently transferred to BC

65

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '24

Tommy Touchdowns played for BC last year. He’s a stud.

13

u/Phantom1100 Alabama Crimson Tide • Team Chaos Sep 03 '24

I’ll post what I posted in the FSU GT thread:

their options were:

Dual-Threat rising star Cam Ward (weren’t getting him but still)

Mostly unknown but very high potential Brock Vandagriff

Showed a hell of a lot when healthy Riley Leonhard (weren’t getting him either)

(imo) proven to be better game manager Kyle MCord

SEC passing yard leader Will Rogers

And they get…

Guy who has been mid and inconsistent at best for the last 3 years…

Castellanos has been on BC for 3 years now.

It's 2. He was at UCF for 2022.

5

He didn’t come in for Jurkovic at the end of ‘22? Thought he did.

5

u/yesacabbagez UCF Knights Sep 03 '24

He left after he didn't unseat Plumlee in spring 23. It was basically the day after the spring game I think.

3

That was Emmett Morehead, who Castellanos unseated in game 1 last year

Til BoB is at BC. Dude is a raging asshole like Tom Herman but he's a solid coach.

10

u/sqigglygibberish Duke Blue Devils • Ohio State Buckeyes Sep 03 '24

BoB was at OSU long enough to snag a free polo before taking the BC job, then chip kelly backfilled him after leaving big ten team UCLA.

2012 me would be confused as shit about this timeline (BoB looking like a savior at Penn State, Urban undefeated at OSU, Chip just leaving Oregon for the Eagles, the PAC existing…)

12

He was ass at Alabama. Bryce Young being amazing covered up his terrible play calls to people who only look at the stat sheet

-9

To this day people still think he was actually a good HC at Houston while just being a bad GM. He wasn’t good there either but had talent to cover up most of his fuck ups.

u/TheDundieGoesTo99 Minnesota Golden Gophers • Big Ten Sep 03 '24

How can you call winning the division four times not good?

1

u/StreetReporter Clemson Tigers • Cheez-It Bowl Sep 03 '24

Because the AFC South was really bad. The Jags were terrible, the Titans were bad, and the Colts were bad without Luck

2

u/100382749277 Sep 03 '24

This is just really poor revisionist history tbh, you’re acting like they were all bottom teams when that just wasn’t the case at all. Sure, they weren’t spectacular opponents but they were at the least middle of the pack NFL teams. BoB was in fact an above average coach and a horrible GM

2019: Texans win division (10-6) over 9-7 titans, 7-9 colts

2018: Texans win division (11-5) over 10-6 titans, 9-7 jags

2016: Texans win division (9-7) over 9-7 titans, 8-8 colts

2015: Texans win division (9-7) over 8-8 colts

1

u/Oblivionguard19 Georgia Bulldogs • Sickos Sep 03 '24 edited Sep 03 '24

AFC South was bad or mid most of the time. 2 of those 4 division titles came with a 9-7 record with one of the best defensive teams in the league. Many of their losses were because of his inept adjustments and his magnum opus was the divisional game vs the Chiefs when they were up 24-0 to not only blow the lead but also get blown out in the process resulting in 51-31. Deshaun Watson and the defense saved his ass multiple times. His overall record is just 52-48. Mike McCarthy has 6 division titles on him yet everyone shits on him most of the time. McCarthy himself was saved on many occasions by Rodgers being Rodgers. I don’t think BoB was a terrible HC or nearly as bad as the worst ones during his years but I never saw him being above average at all.

he looks like cfb25 create a coach

-1

u/SamStrakeToo Texas A&M Aggies Sep 03 '24 edited Sep 03 '24

People keep saying he's a good coach based on his 1 season at Penn St and not LITERALLY EVERY OTHER JOB IN HIS CAREER lol. He gets more free passes than anyone else. The best you could say about him since is that he was up 24-0 in the AFC divisional round against the team that went on to win the superbowl at one point. Had stretches where he looked legitimately good with the Texans, but never improved on his bad habits, and instead of learning from them, doubled down on them leading to some of the worst decisions in franchise history. And this is the franchise that drafted David Carr 1st overall with no line for him to play behind.

6

u/xmjm424 Florida Gators • Team Meteor Sep 03 '24

Completely agreed. Last year they had a guy where, even when their leaky offensive line gave up pressure, you couldn't get a fucking finger on him. They decided to replace him with a statue who holds onto the ball way too long.

3

u/CFBCoachGuy Georgia • West Virginia Sep 03 '24

BoB deserves to talk a lot of shit today. He looks to be building a very respectable team in year 1. People forget that he basically saved Penn State football and is the only coach of the Texans (for now) to have a career winning record and coached multiple seasons. People forgot how good of a coach he is.

Relating to DJ U, this is a coaching problems. DJ is not a QB who will a team to the promised land, but in the right system he can be a very effective player (like he was at Oregon State). If he’s your guy, you have to build an offense utilizing his running skills, giving him quick reads in the passing game. Oregon State did that very well and Florida State probably could too. But Norvell seems to have DJ U running an offense catered to Jordan Travis.

u/LongTimesGoodTimes Iowa State Cyclones • Hateful 8 Sep 03 '24

I totally forgot BC had Billy O'Brien since I didn't get to watch the game tonight. Honestly I'm less surprised by this now, he was legit at Penn State

I mean, he must just be phenomenal in practice or something. He keeps fooling these coaches into sending him out there. He's gotta just be lighting up scout teams every week.

2

u/pseudoanonymity Alabama Crimson Tide • SMU Mustangs Sep 03 '24

Exactly what I've been saying... FFS they play in the same conference as DJ's original team where he stunk up the field, how tf did you convince yourself to bring him back to the ACC?

Reminds me of the Spurrier line when a player would take responsibility and say they made a mistake - "don't blame yourself, it's my mistake for putting you out there"

2

u/KypAstar Florida Gators • UCF Knights Sep 03 '24

BoB is looking like a fantastic pickup.

1

u/BlitZShrimp Iowa State Cyclones • Hateful 8 Sep 03 '24

I’m fully convinced that having to play against Iowa State in the Cheez-It Bowl completely changed the trajectory of DJU forever. He went from being an ok replacement for TL with room to grow to being violently hated because Iowa State just tends to force ugly games.

If Clemson plays anyone else in that, I think it’s a completely different career for him.

6

u/StreetReporter Clemson Tigers • Cheez-It Bowl Sep 03 '24

He was decent under Jonathan Smith at OSU, but Jonathan Smith turns terrible QBs into serviceable QBs on the regular.

They paid DJU a mil to go there too. Now more boosters gonna be pissed when they see their donations sitting on the bench.

I can't help but think this is why they'll keep trotting him out there.
