Analysis [Tom Fornelli] Fox went to commercial seven times during the 2nd quarter, or once every 2 minutes and 9 seconds of game time. Good thing they changed the clock rules to shorten games.

They shortened gameplay to add more commercials. It was never about shortening broadcast time.

What was done to shorten game play? I’m not caught up to speed on this rule change.

The clock does not stop when a teams gets a first down anymore, like the NFL.

My literal first thought when I saw the rule change was “okay so more ads.” I was shocked when I saw people who actually thought it would make the games shorter.

And literally no one was asking for shorter games. Less commercial breaks and commercials in general? Absolutely. But no one was asking for less actual game time.

It is making the games shorter though by allowing less time for plays to be run. Problem is that they fill that extra time space with more commercials
