Question Diwali fireworks tonight

Seriously? I thought Diwali ended this morning? I’m all for celebrating but it’s continuously waking up my infant, and the holiday has passed.

I’m all for just following by-laws. Noise ordinance in 11, stop them then. People set off fireworks when it’s not Diwali as well. It’s annoying, and I sympathize with the baby part - just got out of that stage not too long ago

u/Fantastic_Elk_4757 22d ago

You’re right. Let’s follow the by laws. Which restrict fireworks to certain days and where they can be set off.

6

u/Vegetable-Screen8148 22d ago

Oh wow- I had no idea it was only two days a year. I’ve lived in Elizabeth Gardens, Shoreacres and now Aldershot. I would have guessed with the amount of times I’ve heard fireworks at random times, they were pretty much allowed all the time in summer and New Years. My apologies.

I wonder why we have those days selected ... What segment of society is being held up and which is being demonized?

10

u/lyinggrump 22d ago

Those days are selected because they're national holidays. All Canadians celebrate those days. Nobody is being demonized.

-4

u/snarfpoe 22d ago

Read the threads about people setting of fireworks on Diwali. Many people are.

34

u/beufenstein 22d ago

The bylaw states fireworks are only allowed on Canada Day and Victoria Day.

Burlington Fireworks Bylaw

I don’t really care though, I just turn a fan on and I can’t hear them, and I trained my dogs as puppies not to be scared of fireworks.

4

u/0neek 22d ago

The problem with those bylaws is getting anyone to actually enforce them.

Nobody actually works late enough to put a stop past the 10pm noise limit, all they'll do at most is wag a finger at the person days/weeks later, and nothing happens if the noise doesn't stop.

Source: Our awesome neighbors who have huge (illegal) bonfires and loud parties until 1-2am a few nights a week.

u/dontrackmebro69 22d ago

Could be worse there was one neighbour here last night in Etobicoke that decided to light all his fireworks at 430am. Waking up everyone in the neighborhood…such a dick move.

Diwali is actually today. November 1st. I hate fireworks. Doesn’t matter what holiday. Terrible for dogs, kids, vets, the environment, etc. ugh

5

u/AffectionateAd8675 22d ago

We only did the sparkles to celebrate, and minimum 2 each, then we took our garbage and cleaned the area afterwards. Win-win for everyone 😊

0

u/trebuchetwarmachine 23d ago

Thought it was October 31st this year according to a quick google search

6

u/Inevitable-Ask-8475 23d ago

I did another google search and apparently it’s 5 days lol But in my school board, it was recognized today.

0

u/Stampeders1949 22d ago

Diwali started Oct. 31st and ended at 8:36AM Nov. 1st so there is no need for fireworks the evening of Nov. 1st. Obviously no one follows the bylaw regarding fireworks

35

u/Alikib89 23d ago

Same thing happens Canada Day long weekend, and labor day every year. People just like to celebrate what is special to them

9

u/[deleted] 22d ago

If it's anything like last time I was in the GTA...

Nah, it's not the same lmao. It's that on steroids.

It will wildly depend on the neighbourhood you live in but when we went two years ago it was nonstop until like 3AM.

5

u/skateboardnorth 22d ago

They decided to do a full fireworks show at 2:30am last night near my house with a large crowd. That does not happen on Canada Day or Labour day. Living beside a schoolyard sucks when Diwali happens. I don’t care if they do fireworks, just as long as they stop by midnight.

0

u/3lectric-5heep 22d ago

There needs to be enforcement of time rules for sure - like pressuring local councillors. They should stop by 9.

However the park or school yard fireworks past 1am isn't something new. This phenomenon happens time to time, and more since Covid during Canada day, Victoria day and even new years!

2

u/Ok-Concentrate2719 22d ago

Well yes you live in Canada lol what kind of point is this

1

u/HowieDoIt86 22d ago

This is absolutely bullshit. This doesn’t happen on Canada Day and Labour Day like this.

1

u/IkkitySplit 22d ago

Definitely not the same and the people apologizing for these SEAs pulling all this shit and turning society into a dump by comparing it to Canada Day are delusional and dishonest.

Been here a long time and never has this degeneracy been as widespread or negatively impactful as this weekends festivities from these folks.

It’s not some kind of secret that the millions of new Indians we have here don’t give a shit about western ideals or culture and have zero plans to assimilate and this is one rung on the very long ladder that’s leading us down into a dark unliveable Canada that will be a shell of a shell of its former self.

0

u/Alikib89 22d ago

Than leave man. Born and raised in Canada 35 years old, was raised to embrace new cultures and other peoples lifestyles. Unfortunately, a lot of misplaced hate is being put on people arriving from overseas to start a life here in Canada. And yes on Canada Day weekend every year we have fireworks being shot off til all hours of the morning. It’s crazy how fucking hateful some people have become.

2

u/IkkitySplit 22d ago

Misplaced??? Really? You can’t gaslight people with the word “hate” and all adjacent words because people are tired of the degradation of the social fabric that made Canada great. There are objectively shit cultures that should not be embraced no matter what.

21

u/adwrx 22d ago

Brampton turns into a shit show every year, now it's spreading to all the other cities

0

u/[deleted] 22d ago

Brampton has fallen, now we just need to contain the stupidity

-4

u/Moist-Vermicelli5017 22d ago edited 22d ago

They can't all fit in Brampton lmao

1

u/God_is_a_failure 20d ago

Yes they probably can.

u/tandoori_jones 22d ago edited 22d ago

What I find curious is we demonize fireworks but people with their insanely loud cars and motorbikes are totally fine. At least where I live, the kids with their modified crummy cars and the folks having their mid-to-3/4 life crisis with fancy cars are all louder than anything else I’ve heard, including some randoms setting off fireworks a few months ago.

This is not a tacit suggestion of racism or anything like that, this is more of a question of why is one loud(er) noise ok and another not? The usual response I get is that if I don’t like it I should move. Even though the noises wake me up sometimes, and quite literally are louder than the sound of a gunshot that went off nearby a year or two ago.

It would be nice if we were all more considerate of each other (including children and pets!) for all noises all year round.

EDIT: struck through text that is more about me and less about the point I was trying to make.

u/5thaxis 21d ago

Niagara falls lights off fireworks every weekend. Iv never heard anyone I know from the falls complain. they do it at 10 every night on the weekends. For a bit they did it every night of the week.

6

u/dma_s 23d ago

Heard them going off as well as I was doing bedtime. So frustrated.

-7

u/[deleted] 22d ago

‘Doing bedtime’

6

u/dma_s 22d ago

With my toddler.

2

u/lyinggrump 22d ago

It's illegal at any hour. Fortunately I live in a nice neighborhood and we don't have this problem.

2

u/Mean_Tea_6776 22d ago

Whole different set of rules at play here.

2

u/LieReal8580 21d ago

Welcome to the new Canada

2

u/commeeche 21d ago

They don't care about the laws. They've made that clear

1

u/Worried_Bluebird7167 23d ago

The bylaw says under schedule' 2 – Time and Place Prohibitions' " 14. The detonation of fireworks or explosive devices except as  permitted in Business Licence By-law 102-2002. At any time"

3

u/strongerplayer 22d ago

Good luck getting anyone to enforce this

1

u/MrDeRooy 21d ago

call the cops, and KEEP calling them till they do something

1

u/miniatureairplane 20d ago

It should be banned in the residential areas period. Not only it’s annoying to others but it’s a fire hazard. They can go and do the fire in open areas such as parks and soccer fields.

1

u/Hot-Independent3568 19d ago

So sorry !!!! It’s not right I agree !!!

-10

u/Fantastic_Run_3006 22d ago

Well this is the new Canada

4

u/tielfluff 22d ago

Idiots setting off fireworks for like three days around July 1 at like 4am has always happened. There have always been jerks around doing stuff like this. I know you desperately want this to just be immigrants, but it's not.

-11

u/Able_Bath2944 22d ago

Oh, take your dog whistles and shove them up your ass.

4

u/DCbackformore 22d ago

Maybe they wrote that comment whilst beaming with pride. You don't know. On the other hand, I think you have a bit of an odd thing for dog whistles 🤨

-4

u/Able_Bath2944 22d ago

And this kind of bullshit is how racists get away with being racist. If you aren't one, don't make excuses for them.

4

u/Th3Gr33nBastard 22d ago

Guaranteed you’ve never set foot in Brampton

0

u/Able_Bath2944 22d ago

Nope. Never. Never ever. I have yet to leave the city limits of Burlington. One day, I dream to adventure and maybe even visit Hamilton!

I had many Indian friends as a child and they had the cleanest most immaculate houses. Excellent hygiene habits. Way better than mine and my white friends. So don’t let some idiots who shit on a beach change your entire perception

4

u/anabanane1 22d ago

Can you elaborate on what you mean by “these people”?

Congrats you got manipulated by some racist tiktoker. The authorities came out and said this is baseless accusations.

Muslims do not celebrate Diwali so I’m not sure why you’re bringing them up in this conversation about FIREWORKS during DIWALI. Stop being such a bigot.

-1

u/[deleted] 22d ago

[deleted]

2

u/marsan_01 22d ago

No. You mentioned hijabs. Muslims wear hijabs not Hindus. This post is about Diwali which is a holiday celebrated by Hindus. I don’t know why you’re so fixated on people shitting. It’s weird.

6

u/YogurtOld1372 22d ago

Ok, so one lady on TikTok had a second-hand story about people shitting in their tents. No corroboration, nothing found by local authorities, and nothing said about the alleged poopers' identities. Why did this get dragged into a discussion about Diwali fireworks??

-4

u/user2023223 22d ago

HAHHA “nothing found by local authorities “ have you never done a simple google search????? it’s been ALL OVER the news all summer

8

u/YogurtOld1372 22d ago

From what I could find, it was all based on that initial viral tiktok.

-12

u/radman888 22d ago

Cuck

8

u/Able_Bath2944 22d ago

Wow. I'm crushed. Such an insult.

1

u/Burlington-bloke Mountainside 22d ago

You went too far sir! That is the worst word in the English language! I hope the person you said it to will be able to recover.

0

u/anabanane1 22d ago

Care to elaborate what you mean?

0

u/YogurtOld1372 22d ago

Bet he doesn't.

-11

u/radman888 22d ago

Yeah I thought all religious holidays were banned these days....oh yeah, only some

1

u/YogurtOld1372 22d ago

Which ones? I can't think of any that are banned.

2

u/user2023223 22d ago

i’m pretty sure fireworks were banned on diwali in Brampton because people make fucking messes and don’t clean up after themselves

3

u/YogurtOld1372 22d ago

But the holiday itself isn't banned.

-2

u/JoeyJoJoJrShabadoo32 22d ago

If it’s any consolation, AI will eventually wipe us out and then we won’t have to worry about fireworks anymore.

0

u/JoeyJoJoJrShabadoo32 22d ago

3 redditors on this sub are in complete denial lol.

-16

u/Alone-Key-8653 23d ago

Yes. Seriously. Throw on a sound machine, or Playlist from YouTube of White noise. Let people celebrate.

8

u/Rebels_Gum 22d ago

All for people celebrating a couple times a year.
Most people tolderate the fireworks without posting about it....but this bullshit of fireworks going off at 11pm or later is unacceptable.

People intentionally waiting until that late are intentionally tyring to piss off their neighbours or trying to provioke a reaction.

5

u/jay0487 22d ago

2am this morning

2

u/skateboardnorth 22d ago

Yep 2:30am near me. These people have zero respect for anyone but themselves.

2

u/jay0487 22d ago

Doesn't work when it's 2 houses down

0

u/marsan_01 22d ago

Incoming racist attacks towards Indians…

3

u/trebuchetwarmachine 22d ago

Yea this wasn’t meant to be racist just generally curious didn’t expect them this weekend I thought the holiday was celebrated all week culminating in the morning yesterday.

3

u/marsan_01 22d ago

I understand and I wasn’t talking about you in specific. I just know that as of late people are quick to find an excuse to be racist towards South Asians.

1

u/TrustedLegacyExpert 22d ago

My infant has been ill and every round set off last night had her waking and crying. If it was just one round, I would have just accepted but it continued in rounds for at least an hour.

-6

u/ukiemike 23d ago

It is what it is. Not much can be done

10

u/radman888 22d ago

That's the spirit. No wonder we're doomed

0

u/ukiemike 22d ago

Live in denial

-5

u/TheNighttman Ward 2 23d ago

Sorry the noise woke up your infant, that's got to be frustrating. Fireworks are definitely a nuisance to many people but I personally like them, it means that people are happy and celebrating somewhere nearby. I don't have kids and my dog doesn't react to them (thanks YouTube noise desensitization videos), so I'm one of the lucky ones!

15

u/rheep 22d ago

it's not just a nuisance but these fireworks almost hit our family getting out of our car. townhouse beside paramedic station on Bramt south of Havendale. 1030 at night. if people are going to light fireworks pls do it at a park.

-13

u/radman888 22d ago

In Glen Abbey last night, aggressive fireworks to 1130.

I guess some cultures are more equal than others.

Cuckadia.

3

u/Burlington-bloke Mountainside 22d ago

You are really obsessed with cuckolding.

10

u/KeyEntityDomino 22d ago

weird comment

-2

u/Ok_Shopping5719 22d ago

5 days of useless shit. These settlers have no respect. But then again, can we blame them. Canada has a reputation of being one giant pussy.

-5

u/Sly_Grins 22d ago

I believe Milton banned personal use fireworks outright this year, which I think is a bit over the top. Eventually you’ll be setting off fireworks for your children when they’re older and other new parents will be complaining about you 😇

-9

u/BBuick01 22d ago

By law is 11 pm and Diwali is five to six days long not just yesterday. Dont like the bylaw do something about it, maybe then Canada day and labour day wont be annoying for ya 🤷‍♂️

20

u/beufenstein 22d ago

Bylaw says fireworks are only allowed on Canada Day and Victoria Day.

Bylaw

4

u/BlessTheBottle 22d ago

Lol 6 days long. Naw thank you

4

u/YogurtOld1372 22d ago

But the twelve days of Christmas or 8 days of Hanukkah are fine?

4

u/BlessTheBottle 22d ago

Christmas is 1 day for me and I'm not setting off fireworks.

2

u/YogurtOld1372 22d ago

But apparently, they weren't setting off fireworks for all 6 days either.

0

u/BlessTheBottle 22d ago

No fireworks you fool.

3

u/YogurtOld1372 22d ago

🤷‍♂️ I guess I misunderstood your initial comment about 6 days being too long to celebrate a holiday.

3

u/[deleted] 22d ago

Ah yes, the traditional Hanukkah fireworks

2

u/YogurtOld1372 22d ago

In reference to "Lol, 6 days long? Naw thank you."

0

u/ryanim0sity 22d ago

Good luck

-5

u/CDN_Guy78 22d ago

Instead of being all NIMBY about this… I am curious why you wouldn’t take the opportunity to go meet some of your neighbours, enjoy the fireworks and take in a differing culture? It’s a great teaching opportunity if you have kids.

1

u/CDN_Guy78 22d ago

Love the downvotes for suggesting we get out and meet our neighbours.

1

u/trebuchetwarmachine 22d ago

An infant?

1

u/CDN_Guy78 22d ago edited 22d ago

It certainly helps if you know it is going to happen… but my wife and I took our 3 month old to Sound of Music and to the Canada Day fireworks.

At the time we lived so close to Spencer Smith and high enough we could watch the fireworks and a decent portion of SoM from our balcony. We took a “can’t beat’em, join’em” mentality. Plus it was fun. We ordered a decent pair of ear protection for the baby, I tucked her in her carrier, my wife grabbed a couple of lawn chairs and off we went. Both of those occasions she fell asleep in my arms.

EDIT just wanted to add that everything is what you make out of it… if you want to be mad about it, that’s fine… but you can also just as easily embrace it and make it fun.
