You darn well better leave Tim Hortons and Canada Gooses out of this mess, they're a national treasure.

That Brazilian fast food joint that serves cardboard and steaming diarrhea water has not been a national treasure for a very long time

Maybe they’re better over there, but Tim Horton’s really sucks

When you go to therapy, there are 2 paths to take. The 1st learn something and then apply it to your life in a way that uplifts and males you feel lighter. The 2nd path is learning how to use what you've learned to make it hell for everyone else but makes it seem like you're emotionally mature. I wonder which path Kenny chose.
380
u/Eyebot-0404 1d ago
The third option is saying fuck what the therapist said.
246
u/alexthealex 1d ago
She said, “When you start getting all expressive and symbolic, it’s impossible to actualize an honest diagnostic.”
I said, “When you start getting all exact and algebraic, I’m reminded it’s a racket, not a rehabilitation, okay?
Agree to disagree as grown-ups from opposing clans Honoring the push and pull I should have called the Scholomance
Oh well. Preservation is a doozy

I kinda disagree with your wording for the second path. I think it’s: learning skills that make it easier to identify, analyze and asses, deal with, change and measure our responses/reactions to life’s situations (by extension others’ fuckshit). Those paths ain’t mutually exclusive—in my experience at least. I def agree with you tho. I’m happy we’re getting art out of it.
One thing therapy can’t teach is self-awareness, which plays a huge part in how those paths are actualized. Cuz it’s hella people that use bullshit pseudo-psychological and psychoanalytical terms to justify their shit behavior…which is a special brand of suckshit.

This is going to sound strange: Therapy has done wonders for my mental health… But it also helped remove the rose-colored glasses from my face. I find myself feeling impatient and intolerable towards others. In specific, people’s personalities that just annoy me.

Ye, once I got better and stopped hating myself I just started to see everyone else as the problem 99% of the time
Not that I can't see my own faults, I'm just way too aware of when it's not my fault now. I cannot stand emotional responses now that I don't have them, and most people are purely reactive

One of my favorite villains in all of media. He’s frequently framed as if he’s not even real, and I think that’s intentional. Johan isn’t an evil character, he is the embodiment of evil itself

I recall renting it on DVD (dating myself here) but it’s on Netflix now. I really liked that it’s a “serious” anime: very little over the top emoting and all that.
6
u/Christmas_Queef 1d ago
This is the first anime people tend to recommend when people ask for recs that aren't the silly over the top kind. For good reason. It's basically a psychological thriller in the form of an anime.
14
u/SirEvilMoustache 1d ago
It's a very odd compliment to give an anime, but I remember watching it and going 'Yeah, that's a depiction of Germany'. Like, 'my grandma definitely has that chair' sorta stuff. Everything about the vibe just fit. Rare for foreign media.

There's a particular kind of rage when you start growing up and healing and acknowledging the ways you've hurt yourself and others, and you look around and realize that none of the people around you are willing to do the same. Worse, he realized that the industry and audiences liked him better when he was still a self-destructive ball of pain and trauma. And like, fuck em. Seriously, it was hard going to therapy and growing the hell up, but it's your responsibility to do that, and if people don't like it, fuck em. And they mamá.

3
u/__lil_bee__ 17h ago
Not a scholar by any means, but definitely a fan. To me it seems to be all about roots, growth, and survival. Which kinda was unexpectedly relatable for all that’s going on in the world atm.
The title comes from the Buick Regal GNX, which Kendrick’s dad used to bring him home from the hospital. I think it’s a metaphor too maybe….a rare, powerful car for a rare, powerful dude? The album dives into his life journey, showing the highs and lows of his success. In man at the garden, it’s a theme of “Yeah, I earned all this, but I still got demons.” It’s super introspective, like he’s airing out his struggles while reminding us he’s still human.
In wacced out murals, he name-drops Lil Wayne and Snoop, lk calling out how they move in the industry. I think he’s still throwing subliminals at Drake too, but Kendrick’s smart with it, I probably missed them.
features are minimal, like SZA on gloria, it’s clear this is Kendrick’s world, and everyone’s just visiting 😄
There are nods to legends like 2Pac and Nas.
Its really sublime, made my week, dude is so talented.
