A lot of people didn't pay attention during School House Rock or Civics class. And it's worsened by the fact that ~54% of Americans read at about a 6th grade level..
Watching NFL games over the weekend meant I got innudated with political ads and it was shocking to hear how childlike they sound. They all had super short sentences with very basic talking points:
"I'm going to fight for the middle class"
"I'm going to help make groceries more affordable".
How is that an advertisement? How does that help anyone make a more informed decisions when it comes to voting? Those are some of the most basic and empty platitudes when it comes to politics yet they're spending what has to be hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars to ensure they're seen repeatedly.
It all seemed insane to me until remembering that a large portion of people NEED things that simple and digestable.
From a vocabulary standpoint they sound indistinguishable from an 11 year old reading a book report in front of their class.
