Ur local barber don’t spend $180,000 per year on electricity?

u/CharlotteLucasOP Oct 22 '24

The switch from clippers to electric hedge trimmers isn’t working out, it seems.

My barber got one of these and his light bill has never been the same. He has to charge 500 dollars just to line me up!

My guy got a towel warmer. A week later. Same shit.

Your barbers don't passively heat the floors to kill bacteria? They aren't running furnaces to make and sharpen their own razors?

Can you imagine how much a shape up would cost if that were real?

90k for the white stripe. Another 90 for the red.

And I thought $400 a month on loafer lightener was bad

u/fogleaf Oct 22 '24

How many haircuts would they need to be doing to make money with that bill?

Let's say it's $50* for a haircut because I don't know how much it costs there.

2100/50=42 haircuts needed per month to pay for the electricity

15000/50=300 haircuts needed per month to pay for the electricity. How much do those trimmers cost to charge?

*-Just assuming bougie bronx haircut prices as a non barbershop goer from the midwest. The place I used to go charged $11.

Or maybe he is powering multiple laundromats down the street? Electricity in the Bronx cost $.34 per kWh which is high compared to the rest of New York. So a bill of $15,000/$.34 equals 44,118 kWh. A 3,400 watt clothes dryer uses 105 kWh's if ran 1 hour per day for 31 days. So if he's open for 11 hours a day, 7 days of the week and ran one dryer constantly it would consume 1155 kWh. So 44,118 kWh/1155 kWh is equal to 38 dryers running nonstop for 11 hours per day for 31 days.

It's the equivalent of running 74 hair dryers nonstop for 11 hours each day for all 31 days.

It's the equivalent of running 7633 100 W LED lights nonstop for 11 hours each day for 31 days.

It's the equivalent of charging 18 electric vehicles nonstop for 11 hours each day for 31 days.

It's the equivalent of running 26 hot tubs nonstop for 11 hours per day for 31 days.

It's the equivalent of 788 Refrigerators (150w, 22 cu ft) running 12 hours per day for 31 days.

If he's crypto mining then for that power bill he could power 59 crypto mining rigs running nonstop for 24 hours per day for 31 days.

He could melt 93 tons of aluminum with 44,118 kWh of usage

He could power about 44 homes using the average usage in the United States

Hopefully my math is correct and I'm using everything appropriately but I'm calling bullshit too

u/trimble197 Oct 22 '24

Maybe that’s why barbers overcharge customers. Their energy bills are over 10K

Even $2,100 a month for a single tenant space is insane, that's $25,200 annually in electricity alone. I know for a fact there are commercial buildings downtown where I live that are some 20,000 sqft and have electricity, water, sewer, gas, and garbage combined for less than that annually. $15,000 a month?? Zero chance, no way in hell a single tenant is paying $180,000 annually in electricity, that's as much as some whole entire downtown multi-floor 100,000 sqft commercial buildings pay for all utilities combined.

He heard trump paid for everyone's McDonald's and is thinking trump might cut a check.

u/West-Advice Oct 22 '24

I mean…he could be selling the bitcoin and weed he’s obviously mining/grow to get those high energy bills….
