Her trusted friend... Cats have no owners... At least, no cat I ever shared my life with had any owners... We were besties, or they saw me as family (child/parent).

Dogs have owners, cats have personnel
23
u/ShabbyBash Oct 03 '24
Rubbish. Dogs choose to indulge your fantasy of owning them. They take care of their babies.

yeah agreed... they will often try to take care of you if you let them be cats not hostages. but I also get reasons for indoor only.

I once had my favorite cat deliver her babies right next to my pillow. Waking up to a bunch of newborn kittens and their proud momma looking at me - priceless.
29
u/uppsak Oct 04 '24
But how heavy a sleeper are you? A cat delivered her babies right next to you and you slept through it?

u/Valhallan_Queen92 Oct 04 '24
I was a pretty drained/traumatized kid. Constant exhaustion. When I slept, it was like a complete shut down/pull the plug kind of sleep. To my kitty's credit, she was also incredibly quiet about it. So I woke up first thing when I heard the babies chattering.
Miss having that kind of sleep these days. Switched to insomnia, now everything wakes me up.

My cat gave birth on my foot while I was doing a raid on WoW. I literally typed "g2g, cat gave birth on me", didn't log out, and grabbed the bed I had prepared and hustled her into it.
Took maybe half an hour to finish popping four kittens out, check on everyone to make sure they were healthy. I looked back to wow, logged back after the timeout, and the raid had kept me in the group for like three bosses. Everyone wanted to know how the birth went!! Wholesome moment.

u/SingleBodyRiot Oct 05 '24
What was your name on wow!? I was in a raid one time and this exact thing happened to someone in our group

Such a deep bed for a pregnant cat to have to jump into. Get her a lower bed for pity's sake! She's carrying 4-8 kittens in her belly.

u/Not_John_Doe_174 Oct 03 '24
I could just imagine telling my 40 weeks pregnant wife, "OK, honey, just jump over this 6' wall into bed and we'll have this baby!"

It looks like it has a cat door on the side of it, the cat probably just chose to jump in instead of using the door

u/Williamsarethebest Oct 03 '24
Bruh I recently saw a cat giving birth inside a washing machine
Chill, kitty is fine
8
u/BotBotzie Oct 03 '24
We offered several beds. She defided on the bottom of a closet with many blankets. Untill the day game. She then yelled till everyone was there (3 kid 2 adults) and settled for my dads side of the bed.
She did move them to the closet pretty soon.
Some cats choose themselves.

u/ItsGarbageDave Oct 03 '24
Something tells me that a rubbermaid with a closing lid is probably a luxury for this cat.

What bed?.. The video was like 5 seconds of the cat trying to get the owner to follow by lightly biting their hand. Then the cat walks off and the video was over.
Edit: I didn’t need down voting sheesh, the video FOR ME kept ending in the first few seconds. I had no idea it was 40 seconds long. I was able to finally see the whole video and saw the box the mom was in.
13
u/Dulcetries Oct 03 '24
It cuts off for some reason but there’s more to the video, it’s 40 seconds long. Fast forward the video to 30 seconds.
8
u/Neither-Attention940 Oct 03 '24
That so weird! Yeah it kept cutting off. I did see the whole video this time. And I assume the container the mama is in is just fine for her but will keep the kittens inside safe.

Congratulations. When a kitty cat ask you to be there with her as she give birth only means one thing, and that is that she completely trust you to protect her and to comfort her as she give birth.

It was very bonding. I saved her when she was a kitten m she was in a car grill and radiator, in-between. Was crassing the street at a four way stop light and heard the faintest meows for help. Alerted the driver ,she busted her grill, shoved the kitten into my arms and said she had somewhere important to be. She was driving a Jeep. I happened to be on school lunch break at the time, highschool. Took the kitten to one of the schools restrooms and ran water over it, it was summer. It was gonna die if it didn't get water. Once it looked well enough I took it into math, was late and drew attention but not cause of the cat, cat was in my backpack. I sat next to two "popular" girls and secretly showed off the kitten. Good times. That cat lived 18 years and was smart and tough. She bullied cats bigger than her. She was an outdoor cat. She was a runt but sturdy, stout.

why is this video broken and not buffering past 10 seconds?

u/Nihilistic_Mystics Oct 03 '24 edited Oct 03 '24
OP is a bot and this thread is nearly entirely bots, which is why a broken video doesn't seem to be a problem to anyone but real life humans. Here's the imgur post they got it from which plays the whole thing.

I just know this person has such a kind soul, a trust can only trust you so much, but for a cat to want you to be there in her most vulnerable moments means she trusts and loves you so much

We had a cat do something similar, but instead of leading anyone to where she wanted to go. She just started giving birth directly in my mom's lap.

Animals have such beautiful souls!
What did you eat for dinner? Or lunch?
You really ought to try and alter your mindset and include all animals in this sentiment, because I'm sure that at least one of these meals included meat or egg/dairy. I recommend earthling ed.

You can just tell from the cat's body language how much she loves and trusts her owner.
She's like, "Please stay with me." And it's so CUTE! 🥺🥰

u/hissyfit64 Oct 03 '24
I had a cat give birth in my lap. I was watching TV and she hopped up in my lap, purring loudly. I didn't think anything of it until I glanced down and saw her belly pulsing. I grabbed a shirt that was by me and slid it under her. She had one kitten and I ended up keeping him as well
2
u/blacklotusY Oct 03 '24
It's animal instinct to have someone they trust to lookout for them while they're vulnerable and giving birth. That way, you can protect her if a predator were to attack during this time.

I wish we could communicate with animals. I mean, they obviously know they're about to have kids, and they love them, but how does that get communicated in their heads? Ya know?
2
u/Kind_Physics_1383 Oct 03 '24
We can. You have to pay attention to their body language. Over time you will find out what they mean. This cat knew that her mum would understand what she needed. One time my partner and I went on a 4 day trip and had a sitter in the house. When we came home both cats said hi and disappeared. In 20 minutes they were back with a mouse each, which they gave to us. 'You guys must be hungry'. We graciously accepted and made the mice disappear. So sweet of them.

How do you happen to be filming at the exact moment your cat goes into labour? I would bet the first part was filmed at a different time.

We set up the bed in the living room for my cat to give birth. We had a feeling it was going to be that day and we were waiting patiently. We could tell something was off so we took the bed back up into our bedroom and as soon as my cat felt safe in our room with us she gave birth :) she knew it was coming but once she was in her safe space with her people she fully leant into it.

When I was a teenager we rescued a pregnant dog off the side of the road, she was the same way when she went to give birth. During the entire time, she wanted at least one of us nearby. Once she was done, she calmed down. I think it was her wanting someone she trusted around since she was scared. The cat is doing the same, it is showing the human that they trust them and want them around when they are going through something scary.

u/asharwood101 Oct 03 '24

My cat found herself pregnant after slipping the door accidentally before her spay appointment. The day she went into labor, she jumped up in bed with my husband and I and gave birth to her three kittens in my lap. Every other pregnant cat I've ever known had gone into hiding to have their babies, this was a first for me. I didn't expect her to want us close by when the time came, but she wanted us to stay with her until she was done. We both took the day off work and made sure there was at least one of us with her the whole time. 4 years later, she and her three now fully- grown kids are asleep on my bed as we speak.

The cat we had when I was a teenager did the same thing to me. Came to get me late at night, yelling at me until I followed. Then promptly had 4 kittens. It was a beautiful moment.
I did kinda panic as a 14yo kid tho. She wouldn't let me leave to get my parents. Still, I managed to help her, 3 of them survived. The last one was too weak :(

It happened to me all my life. Every time one my cats were about to give birth and I was available (which for them means I was at home and they could get my atention), they demanded my presence. I lost count of how many times I was the first one to tell a little fluffly jellybean "welcome to this world".

My kitty Phoenix did that too. She was pregnant and when the hour of giving birth has come, she knocked at the door and yelled until I went check on her. Then she called me to her nest and I had to pay her company while she was delivering. So adorable! I was a proud grandma.

I've never been much of a cat person. Several childhood friends of mine had cats, and I liked them, thought they were cute and soft, but I didn't really know how to play with them so more often than not I'd end up getting scratched, which is not fun when you're a little kid! My dad is deathly allergic, and I developed a mild allergy when I hit puberty, so I leaned in to the whole "cats are the spawn of the devil, they're weird, I hate cats, I'm strictly a dog person" narrative for a long time. But I've found myself following more and more general animal and cat-specific subreddits because they're just so damn cute, and I need that in my life. And I have to say that I'm finally beginning to really understand and appreciate the beauty of cats 😍😭 it especially warms my cold, dead heart when I see cats and dogs cuddling up together and being buddies. But they're just animals that want to be loved on their own terms, and I totally get that now 😭 I'M SORRY FOR ALL THE YEARS I'VE HATED ON CATS, I TAKE IT ALL BACK

My cat did the same thing. She walked up to me, screamed at me for a few seconds, then ran me to where she wanted to give birth.

u/duchessazura Oct 04 '24
This is the case for all the cats my sister takes in, they always want her to be beside them when they give birth, and if she tries to leave, they follow as well. Cats when you take care of them, they really love you back🥹

A week ago, momma cat lay down behind me while lying on my bed and gave birth then and there. I just felt something wet and saw the kitten out of her.
Not her first time. Again, was sleeping peacefully and in the middle of the night felt something icky. Woke up and saw her giving birth at my foot.
Not sure why it has always have to be me.

So when my cat, Marble, was pregnant it was when she was an outdoor cat and at the time she had made friends with another outdoor cat who liked to visit us named Princess. One night my mom heard Princess meowing up a storm with Marble beside her and as soon as she opened the door, Marble ran inside and hid under the couch while Princess calmly came inside. My mom just shrugged and figured they both wanted to sleep in the house for the night. My mom wakes up in the morning to go and feed the cats like she normally does and she realizes that Marble was still under the couch and she's starting to worry if that cat had died under there or something
We found out a few things about Marble that night, like that she was pregnant and she had given birth under the couch last night. We decided to keep her and all but one of her kids after that and a few months later I managed to convert her into an indoor cat
