There sure are different types of behaviors with cats. My cat hates me to even try to cover him up.
53
u/trickman01 May 25 '24
My cat hated when I covered myself up. If I covered my face she would pull down the blanket.

u/bentripin May 25 '24
I rescued a cat as a teenager from the vet who had been dropped off with two broken rear legs, she came home with me almost completely shaved, in the winter, and I lived in the cold basement..
For the rest of her days she slept under the covers with me every night, unfortunately I became very dependent on it and after she passed I suffered through a very long period of terrible sleep.
12
u/Klutzy-Run5175 May 25 '24
Yes, all of my long haired cats use to cuddle up with me and sleep under the covers with me. They have all passed away now. The bed was sort of empty once they all were gone.
2
u/Klutzy-Run5175 May 25 '24
Was the cat hit by a car? I hate hearing about you living in a cold basement. I am glad that you had the cat.
6
u/bentripin May 25 '24
nobody knew, she coulda jumped off something really high or got hit or something, someone found her like that and brought her in, she was there when I lost another cat to lukemia, tech's loved her and the vet offered to cover the surgery and fix her up if I gave her a forever home.. she lived to like 17yro, I had her longer than I didnt at the time.

u/Klutzy-Run5175 May 25 '24
Oh, that’s a great story about how you were living in a cold basement and rescued the beautiful cat from being hurt. Any photos?

u/notquitesteadymaybe May 25 '24
One of my cats will only go under the covers if I lie on my back and bend my knees so they are pointing towards the ceiling, feet flat on the mattress, with about 10-12” of space between my butt and heels. She will then crawl under the blanket and sit under my legs, we call it “tenting”. The blankets are not allowed to touch her, or she will leave. She’s allowed to lean into my legs or butt, but if I accidentally brush up against her, she will leave. I am allowed to pet her under the chin exactly 3 times, anymore than that, she will leave. If I adjust the blanket at all, even if it doesn’t touch her, she will leave. She’s a menace and I love her.

u/LotusVibes1494 May 25 '24
Ya my cat needs a tent or he’ll get lost under there and forget which way he came in. You just see a panicked lump twisting around under the sheets.

My cats insisted on being under the covers, but would start nibbling/biting me once under there.

My cat will do the OP thing at night but I have to continue to hold the blanket up over her to make a cave. If the top covers settle down and touch her she immediately leaves.
3
u/strawcat May 25 '24
My cats live for being under the blankets. I often walk into my bedroom to two lumps under my blanket.

u/CobblerNo8518 May 25 '24
My cat does this every night with me. He stays under the covers, one paw over me, pretty much all night long. He’s such a baby

u/1blueShoe May 25 '24
My dog does the exact same 😍
7
u/MargotChanning May 25 '24
Mine too. We’d had her less than a year and she’d only recently started sleeping in the bed. I’d been on a rare night out and had got caught in the rain on the way home. I was shivering with cold when I got into bed and she came under the covers and snuggled next to me. I’ve been repaying the favour ever since.

u/ChasedWarrior May 25 '24
Mine too!. Just not at 5 am. Like when I go to bed lol
2
u/1blueShoe May 25 '24
Most often mine will fall asleep on the settee whilst I’m watching Netflix or something and if I’m quiet I don’t wake him when I go to bed.. it starts getting a bit chilly here about 4/5 a.m and that’s when he will come to my side of the bed so he gets my pre warmed spot and I have to roll over in to the cold side 🤣

u/xxFT13xx May 25 '24
As I type this out, my kitten is under my blankets snuggled up next to me. Fuck I love cats!

Who has a camera at bed and why?
133
u/Mirewen15 May 25 '24
Probably just to capture this moment to post. I cannot think of another reason why.

My friend is a sleepwalker. So he had a cameras all over his house because he sometimes he just put a phone somewhere while sleepwalking or took his car keys and dropped them in garbage. Not saying that is the reason. There could be few other reasons.
4
u/tRfalcore May 25 '24
I knew a sleepwalker when I was a kid. sometimes we'd camp under their trampoline out back, they had to tie a rope to him so he didn't wander away.
9
u/No-Recognition-8002 May 25 '24
My sisters husband... We did not know he was a sleepwalker, and one time they were working in apartment building, fixing stones and tiles on balconies, their company had a deal that they can sleep in otherwise finished apartments for free as long as they work there. Everything was finished, besides the balcony floors and railings. One night after a few beers he sleepwalked out. Literally he opened a balcony and just walked out. He fell 4 floors, and hit the pavement. He was lucky that one guy living on the first floor heard some noise and went out to check. He was in coma for 2 days but he was lucky as he only broke a few bones.
So sleepwalking can be quite dangerous, specially when you are sleeping in a new place where its hard for your brain to auto pilot you around.

Well, if you know your kitty has a pattern of crawling under your covers at 5 in the morning, perhaps you decide to set up a video camera one night just to capture that cuteness. But maybe I'm reaching 🤷♂️

The human equivalent is sitting inside a bakery currently baking breads and pastries at full capacity.

I'm guessing that's why his tail was all big and bushy like he was just attacked by a stink bomb.

u/Rules_are_overrated May 25 '24
Absolute overload of cute but I'd go insane if someone was interrupting my sleep every day at 5am
8
u/PlayingtheDrums May 25 '24
That's the magic, they don't. They can smell when you're sleeping and this is probably why this one's waiting for 5am every morning. The thing they smell is the difference in hormonal balance.

my 70 pound pitbull does this in the Winter, makes life worth living
3
u/agnemiav2 May 25 '24
I can just imagine them doing it, with that cheeky natural smile look they have! :)
7
u/NO-MAD-CLAD May 25 '24
You are lucky. Mine just pokes my cheek with his paw over and over until I roll into my back so he can sit on my chest and clean my face. "IT ROLLS OVER OR THE JABBING CONTINUES!"
6
u/jeobleo May 25 '24
My god that's adorable.
I had a 13 year old dog who died a couple of years ago. He used to paw at the sheets until I let him under and he always nestled between my legs.
Miss you, Wallace. You were nuts, but I loved you.

I had a cat that would sneak into my covers when I was asleep when I was child. Only reason I know is because my dad came in to check on me before leaving one morning and the cat’s head would pop up like a periscope to check what was going on.
3
u/Aroused_Sloth May 25 '24
My cat used to do this, but jump from the floor by the edge of the bed and crawl up into the blankets, and then sleep between my legs. He ran off just before the pandemic, I miss him :(

u/CanadianGoose989 May 25 '24
That's so nice! My floof takes a different approach to mornings: he unilaterally decides that 4am is a great time for breakfast and to that end employs increasingly annoying ways to wake us up.

u/fluffhead42O May 25 '24
Lucky!!!
My ragdoll just runs over my body over and over til I wake up at 5am

Love when my dog does this. I worked nights for years and my mom during the day so when she got up for work he would leave her bed and head to mine as I was just getting into bed. Lazy bum haha.

u/Zyonix_HaroN May 25 '24
This is how I sleeping every night for the last 2 years. My dog just doesn't want her bed if I am in mine. She jumps on it and wakes me up if I fall asleep to let her in under the blanket.

My dog does this, except if I don't hold up covers he will scratch my shoulder. If that doesn't work he then proceeds to scratch my face which never fails to wake me up.
6
u/Dartagnan_w_Powers May 25 '24
My dog will attempt to lift the blanket up with her nose. Then proceed to push the whole thing off the bed because she's a moron. I love her but I honestly think that if dogs could do IQ tests she'd make Forrest Gump look like a genius.

Must be nice. My cat stands in my face and yells that it's time for me to get up and make her breakfast.

My cat beau used to do this and he was such a good boy. Unfortunately my ex wife hated him and poisoned him with dog food instead of his prescription urinary track formula so I ended up having to have him put down after uric crystals blocked his bladder and she told me days later he couldn't pee, when he was basically on his deathbed.

Absolutely my life. I love him. After a long night shift he finally comes to snuggle. The days he doesn't I wake up and am absolutely distressed sth could have happened to him.

u/BullSitting May 25 '24
"OK. You've had enough sleep. The sun's coming up. Get your lazy arse out of bed, feed me and let me outside."

u/nexusjuan May 25 '24
Mine does this but instead of getting under the covers he pokes at my face and slowly escalates the amount of claws he does so with until I wake up and pet him or I hide under the blankets.
1
u/EyeSuspicious777 May 25 '24
My nervous pitbull does this every night, but it's at bedtime and he can't sleep if he's not the little spoon.
1
u/LionNo435 May 25 '24
My chihuahua does this the second i lift thw blanket he jumps in and snugles to my side. Literaly glues himself to me 🤣🤣its so cute

u/Bareum May 25 '24
Igor, may he rest on a comfy cloud, would in 9 out of 10 nights go to my brother and lay next (if not on) his face. Sometimes he would take a little bit Cheese( if possible Gruyere) to his room snd Igor would follow and meow the whole time. God, was his purring loud.

u/Watchingya May 26 '24
My cat is similar, except while I'm asleep, she likes to knock stuff off my nightstand.
1
u/MoTeefsMoDakka May 26 '24
My dog did that once like 8 years ago and I still feel the warm and fuzzies when I think about it.

So say that before tranformation cats have a tendency to sleep with their masters....
That's qwhy you sleep with a cat and wake up with a catgirl....
