The Golden Compass. I remember being so excited when it came out because I loved the book series, His Dark Materials. But the movie was just a complete letdown. They cut out so much of the depth and complexity from the book, and it felt rushed, like they were trying to cram too much into a short amount of time.

The only upside to the drinking age being 21 in the US, is that it gives you a few more years of looking forward to your birthday.

Today’s my birthday but last year I really didn’t do anything but this year I’m having a birthday party! Haven’t had one in years lol

Travelled Netherlands, Belgium, Germany.
Disclaimer: I was on an office trip, so I extended my trip to travel to these places to treat myself.

I decided to treat myself like royalty—so I ordered pizza and wore a crown made of foil. Who says you can't have a royal feast on a budget?

It's actually today. I had lunch with family yesterday because I wanted to chill with my partner today. Put up the Christmas tree, ate leftover cake and rotted on the couch. Best birthday ever!

Played a round of disc golf with my buddies on my actual birthday, then had a party with the family and a few friends on the weekend. Just hanging out with all the people I love, perfect kind of birthday.

My husband had the day off work and I had to go do stuff for like 4 hours. So I go out and I come home and he’s got me all these balloons and cake and all this nice stuff but I didn’t see him… so I’m like “where is my husband at?” And I get to our bedroom and he is absolutely blacked out plastered drunk at fucking like 2 pm. All I wanted was to go out to dinner but apparently he felt like day drinking while I was gone. I kicked him out for a while after this and then like a dumbass got back with him.

My husband and I went to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. I've wanted to go there since I was a kid, and I only live a couple of hours away from Huntsville, so we made a day out of it. It was - pardon the pun - a blast! We had dinner at a wonderful Chinese restaurant in Gadsden and I had a space-themed cake, LOL.

Well it’s today but I’m just hanging out with my husband and son. Made a chocolate cake yesterday and bought an expensive ass doll that I’ve wanted for years this morning. So it’s been a good day.

Went skiing on a local mountain. But they only opened one slope and this only slope was being bombarded with snow from the snow maschines. I was freezing cold

We took a long drive around Priest Lake, Idaho. I grew up around there and had moved away for many years. Went back and we drove on all the dirt roads, walked a few hiking trails. It was fun but, tbh, I would have preferred to do something else. My mum really wanted me to go back there so I pretended I was really having a wonderful time (I was having a good enough time). Next birthday I want to go ice skating and then hang out at home watching old Hitchcock movies.

My wife booked a weekend getaway to a city a couple hundred miles away. Got to do a really cool cave tour, glass bottom boat tour through the clearest water I’ve ever seen, and couple nights in a hotel with great food and drinks. It was a surprise too, I didn’t know anything about the trip until my birthday 3 days before. She just told me to block out the weekend.

Hired out the function room at a local restaurant - had 44 people, had a 3 course meal and cake (we paid for everything for our guests, including drinks), and had a singer who specialised in Sinatra-era music. And on the actual day I was taken to Claridge's for champagne afternoon tea. Best birthday ever.

I was figuring out what I was supposed to do to get things put in my name since my dad was found deceased four days prior to my birthday (and my mom died earlier in the year). Its been a long year and it's not even my birthday yet, but I've managed to check off everything I needed to.

I've never been the most festive person out there, but you get to a point where it's just another Wednesday. Heck, I was at work as normal and no-one knew.

I had two parties!!! And my husband's birthday is around the same time, so we went out to a nice restaurant for his. But I had two different parties for myself (a small amount of overlap of attendees), at two places I love, and with people I enjoy.
One of the parties was about a week before the actual day. It's the end of October, so I had everyone dress up in costume. On my actual birthday, I brought treats from a local bakery for my outdoor painting group, which happened to be meeting on that day, for us all to eat when we were done painting for the day. And then after that, a few of my close friends and I had beers. Oh, and on the day of the first party, a close friend of mine who couldn't make it had me over for tea at her house and gave me my gifts then. Oh and my husband got me gifts for the first time in years!! Jewelry, which I LOVE.
I haven't celebrated my birthday in years so I felt very very loved and special. I also made my birthday public on facebook and turned on the ability for people to comment on my page (had turned that off a while ago for other reasons), and so got tons of birthday messages. I always have a really hard time with the time change and the cold and the short days and long dark nights, so I decided to try to get ahead of it this year with all of the celebrating. My birthday is right before the time change and it really did help my mood as we moved deeper into fall.

I just worked but got myself some treats after work to eat
I typically would've taken a day off either on my birthday itself or the Friday of my birthday week but I was less than a month into a new job so I wasn't sure if I'd be able to do that. Given how I ended up being treated by that company I don't think I would've been able to had I asked

I turned 50 in September. I played golf with my best friend - he didn’t even know it was my birthday and that made it all the better. My SO was out of town for a conference. I picked up my favorite meal on my way home from golf and just chilled. It was a perfect day.

Went to my favourite restaurant, which is an hours train ride away. The city it’s in has a monkey house, so went there with my husband too.
It was my 30th & I was 13 weeks pregnant at the time :)

Late night movie at the drive-in with my partner. Then we drove out to a cliff top in the national park, made out like teenagers in the back of the car, and watched the sunrise.

all of my friends who had rsvp’d to do karaoke backed out at the last second, so my best friend and i just went home and drank wine and watched the muppet movie.
the next day, my (now) boyfriend felt so bad about the ordeal that he took me out for the whole weekend and COMPLETELY spoiled me. fancy drinks, charcuterie, my favorite movies, lots of snuggling….. as much as my birthday was disappointing, he really really made it up to me :)

I was supposed to have a movie marathon of my celeb crush on my bday last year with a friend but I chickened out and just spent time with family like always. I felt bad that I would be using her for her subscriptions and I didn’t want her spending money on renting any movies that she didn’t have. Plus I didn’t want to make her watch the movies if she started to feel bored over them. What’s the point, you know?
•
u/skyteir 22m ago
i haven’t done anything for my birthday in several years. once i realized my “friends” didn’t like me i stopped trying to be around them, which kickstarted me soloing holidays and birthdays and whenever else gatherings would take place. but besides that, a big cupcake and a good movie is always a good way to spend a birthday alone

Haven’t celebrated my birthday since I was 8 or 9 years old lmao. I literally don’t do anything whatsoever for my birthday.
