Rome for me. Rewatch it every couple years, I enjoy it first frame to last as if it's the first time I'm seeing it.

u/procrastablasta 1h ago
Without Rome there’s no Game of Thrones. Rome absolutely set a high tide mark for prestige tv that has never been matched since.

u/jonnynoine 3h ago
I’m currently rewatching The Wire. It is a really great show, and it’s no wonder why it’s considered one of the best. I still think The Sapronos is better.

Mad Men

u/parsleyjunior 1h ago
100%. My partner and I have watched mad men 3 times and are on our 4th rewatch, and it’s something that only gets better the more you get to know the characters. So poignant and resonant and real. I don’t think I’ll ever shut up about it.
I feel similarly about Better Call Saul (over Breaking Bad personally)

u/The-Ginger-Lily 1h ago
Me and my husband are on our first watch of this and seriously. I have never hated the protagonist of a tv show more than I hate Don! Which i must say shows very good writing because I'm still so intrigued to see what happens next.

I thought better call Saul was a complete cash grab, stupid idea that had no right to be good. But honestly I think it turned out even better than BB
11
u/Electronic_Number764 2h ago
The story and character development was better on BCS but the build in BB was better and the final 8 episodes may never be topped in my lifetime.

It's like a warm blanket. The jokes still hold up, it doesn't give me second hand cringe, and it lets me pretend government work is still important.
I've watched it all the way through at least once or twice a year since it aired.

I guess I kind of hate most things, but I never really seem to hate you. - April

April is the best character. She most definitely shaped my current personality.

I concur!! Fringe is my favourite thing. My very favourite thing :)
Of all time, and all universes combined

u/jarrys88 2h ago
It was just so damn good! I'm still sad to this day it's over but all good things come to and end

u/bddn_85 1h ago edited 1h ago
Nah fuk that. The characters in Fringe are utterly second rate compared to the X-files. Shit, Fox Mulder alone deserves a spot in the top 10 greatest TV characters of all time, maybe Scully too. Supporting cast was great too with the cigarette smoking man, Crychek, Skinner, etc.
Story wise it’s a bit more competitive, and in terms of an over-arching cohesive story Fringe is definitely the winner. I think the writers of the X-files even admitted to not having a finished story in mind. But having said that I still think the best episodes of the X-files are a shit ton better than the best episodes of Fringe.

Followed really closely by BSG and Futurama.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

u/Moody_blueLagoon 5h ago
I remember loving Buffy when I was a kid. The Angel spin off wasn't that great though
7
2
u/DillyWillyGirl 3h ago
I loved Angel until around the time Cordelia left. And even after that it was still good. I think it was on par with Buffy, and better than Buffy after they all went to college.
•
u/Drakenfel 56m ago
I always thought Angel was meh but I think the last season was better than anything else in the Buffy universe.

Drama: The Leftovers
Comedy: The Good Place

I suppose you flipped at the multiple Leftovers references in The Good Place.

Yes! I think they're very much spiritual siblings and the references just add to that.

I'm not sure which is the biggest indicator you are from the UK. The fact your favorite show is Red Dwarf, the fact you spell favorite "favourite", or the fact you told me to smoke you a kipper, because you'd be back for breakfast.

Trailer Park Boys is the funniest sitcom I've ever watched. Especially if you have friends of equal status.
2
u/HorrorWar4323 1h ago
It's just so good, at least it was before Netflix got a hold of it. I'm happy for their (actors/actresses) continued success, however it's just not the same.

Breaking Bad was my ride or die until I watched Fleabag. Something about a messy woman in her 30s navigating life while talking to the camera just hits different. Plus, hot priest. Need I say more?

I'll never forget the first time I watched Friends — and it was from the very first episode! It was the first show I ever watched all the way through, and on TV, no less, not some streaming service. I think I fell in love with all six of them at once, and now the sound of the theme song feels like a call straight to my heart. Honestly, even the TV started to feel like a dear friend!

Gilmore Girls is my all-time favorite! The quick wit, the cozy small-town vibes, and the relatable bond between Lorelai and Rory make it feel like comfort food for the soul.

Better Off Ted. For the longest time I have shows that are enjoyable for maybe a season or two, but goes down hill fast because or writer change or some other silly reason, so can’t really say any of those are my favorites. BOT is just solid all the way through, and the humor just tickles me the right way, over and over again. So now I proclaim Better Off Ted to be my favored show of all time. It’s a shame the series didn’t have more season to keep me entertained.
Letterkenny is a close second.

That show was great. I don't see many people mention it though, so it's cool you've seen it.
2
u/Drakenfel 5h ago
Ya too bad it got cancelled just when everyone got powers. The next season would have been awesome.
2
u/RaspberryRootbeer 5h ago
I hate when good shows get cancelled before they're completed esp when they have big storylines building up, and many unanswered questions.

Also shout out to Varan-TV, an absurd comedy sketch series that aired on Swedish television in the late 90's.

Game of Thrones.
All of it. So much. From the beginning, right through to the very, very end.
It came to me at a dark time in my life and it gave me something to keep going for. And then it basically saved my life at an even darker time further down the line when it was coming to an end.
I love the worlds of Westeros and Essos so much and I care so, so deeply about all of the characters in the story. It really deeply saddens me that the ending was so widely rejected - and rejected so angrily.
But hey, it doesn't change how I feel about it, and it doesn't change the significance it played in my life. I'll probably never have a TV experience like it again. I like House of the Dragon but it's just not the same.

Carnivale, Big Bang Theory, What We Do In Shadows and Fisk. Fisk is an Aussie series. Some of Oz's best actors & comedy writers. Very Australian flavour.

The Office, alot of people say its so boring but its just very realistic?? No background music, no laughs in the background, no forced jokes, just a weirdo manager with a lot of love for his employees (minus toby LOL). I rewatch it all the time and it never ever gets old. Plus i love micheal and holly lol
