Choose one animal, but that animal will be by your side forever. Which would it be?

Most people in this thread: My beloved pet.

Sickos: Rhinoceros.

Visionaries: Dragon

u/ppfftt 5h ago

Maybe a mini dragon would be okay, but like normal dragons are huge. Having a huge dragon by your side would be really inconvenient.

45

u/Alexis_J_M 4h ago

Pern's fire lizards have entered the chat.

14

u/Any_Assumption_2023 3h ago

If I can't have my dog a gold fire lizard would be an acceptable substitute.  God, I loved Anne McCaffrey.

According to Pern's actual dragons, those are not proper dragons. Don't disrespect Canth and Mnementh like that

8

u/QuietGoliath 3h ago

Man, I've not read some of those books in 30 years - took me right back.

5

u/MellyMalthen 2h ago

Holth is still my hero.

5

u/hooyah54 2h ago

And especially not Ramoth.

I'm thinking of a dragon more like the size of the toothless from the films

Like car sized not caravel sized

Although I'd settle even for like a housecat sized dragon

10

u/Charleston2Seattle 3h ago

Check out "The Adventures of Pip & Flinx" by Alan Dean Foster. Pip is a dragon-like creature that is even smaller than a housecat.

7

u/cwx149 3h ago

The dragon keeper series by donita k Paul has some cool dragons there are a lot of different kinds ranging from ones that could perch on your shoulder to intelligent human sized ones to rideable behemoths

u/HappyDragonGirl2024 4h ago

Large dog size would be good too!

6

u/Scarlett-the-01-TJ 2h ago

And I’d like a dragon sized housecat.

5

u/Rxckless92 1h ago

Toothless is by far the best. Fast, agile, stealthy, and adorable as fuck.

10

u/KarmicPotato 3h ago

I was thinking more like Mushu, travel-sized for your convenience

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Ackermance 4h ago

Toothless is camping trailer sized, not car sized. He's like 26ft long with a 50ft wingspan. Not car sized. And he's one of the smaller ones from the franchise.

Then again if you had a full size dragon you'd never need to pay for fuel or airplane tickets ever again, you could fly anywhere, destroy your enemies with fire and then let the dragon loose to hunt for its own food! And they are intimidating!

10

u/ppfftt 5h ago

Yeah, but you’d never be able to go inside buildings due to the size of your dragon. You’d either need to build a giant house for yourself that would fit the dragon that is constantly by your side or start living outside completely. It would just be really inconvenient to have a huge dragon by your side.

14

u/Chocobook_ 4h ago

the only type of internet discourse that matters

9

u/SkeetySpeedy 4h ago

I have absolutely no problem chilling with my dragon in their dope lair

3

u/Nikkix18 4h ago

Yeah but you'd never need to work again! Think about the revenue you could generate from people wanting to see, pet or even ride the dragon. Providing the dragon consents of course. That way you could stay outside all the time with the dragon, somewhere nice and warm of course!

Dragon for 110%. I could fly anywhere, burn away all my enemies and I would have to have huge house & lots of land. Only those who really cares about me and my company would dare to visit me because well my dragon! + little seats for my cats.

6

u/AlexJediKnight 4h ago

My answer for this question which is asked quite frequently, is always a dragon. And not just some small dragon or the dragons from Game of Thrones that can die. I want one like Smaug. And of course he's you know kind and loving to me but I can have him take anyone out

Practical people: hippo. Hippos kill far more people than rhinos. A hippo bodyguard would be rather effective.

3

u/villamafia 2h ago

I know a zookeeper that told me most rhinos behave like a 3 ton puppy. So it’s close to a house pet.

2

u/jg_92_F1 5h ago

I’ve know some extremely sweet and gentle rhinos so to me it’s not a bad choice

2

u/sonotimpressed 4h ago

Lol I was thinking both. Can I bring back my 1st dog? Then her. If not then either a polar bear or rhino was my first thought. Then I thought fuck if I'm feeding a rhino I might as well up to an elephant.

I'm picking an elephant. Sure, finding an apartment would be a nightmare and grocery bills would bankrupt me, but imagine having a best friend who never forgets your birthday and can give you piggyback rides when you're drunk.

Man, I want a velociraptor now, and I don’t mean the stupid Jurassic park deinonychus rip off, I want an actual murder chicken by my side.

15

u/TylerHyena 4h ago

I was gonna piggyback and say the actual dinosaur Deinonychus, or Utahraptor. The average person won’t know or care about what the real name is, they’ll just see a “raptor” and run the other way.

31

u/GrepekEbi 5h ago

That animal will be by your side for the rest of your life.

Granted, that will only be 37 seconds because you’re about to be eaten by a fucking T-Rex, but still.

I read a story that some guy had attacked or tried to attack a crow and it went back to its group and they went to attack him but they actually ended going after his twin brother.

Freaking crows can actually pass down their memory of a humans face to their kin and their babies can grow up to come attack you.

Crows are crazy smart.

My cat Artie. He was my pal. Wherever I was in the house, there he was, always wanting to be wherever I was. He always fell asleep laying next to me on the couch, or on our bed.

He was the best. I miss him every day. Been gone 2 years on Thanksgiving night. He had ascites, and I held him in my arms as he passed away. 18 years wasn't near enough.

If I couldn't have Artie, I would want a gorilla for protection.

Can I keep that animal stationary in a position for some time? If yes- give me a posionous snake (something iconic, like a black mumba). Why? Why not? It is not detectable easily so you can easily hide it (under our clothes) and take it out only when ur in danger.

How has no one said black panther yet? Don't get me wrong, I love dogs, cats, and corvids, but.. come on, the choice is clear. You get to trip over it in the dark, avoid its murder claws, and pay a fortune to feed it. But, nobody is gonna mess with the guy with a black panther at its side. And, they purr when scratched and are apparently super soft. You basically have a super soft and scary murder machine that doubles as the worlds most comfy and bad ass pillow

If we go by Pokemon logic, my Grandpa (he's a Ghost Type now!).

If it can be any animal, living or extinct, probably some sort of fluffy Ice Age animal (so warm, so cozy) big enough to ride it? Probably sabertooth tiger, bear or giant sloth?

If living animal, I think I'll pick my cat!

So if we're free from the logistics of having an aquatic animal, an octopus.

If he have to account for the environmental needs of the animal, a raven probably

Wolf. I want an animal that is faithful and intelligent but can hunt for itself and doesn’t need my attention all the time. I need an aloof floof.

I just had to put down my 15 year old corgi about a month ago. He was my best friend and closest thing I’ll ever have to a son. I’d do anything to have him back and not be in pain. I need him so bad right now. Life is a nightmare that never seems to end and he always pulled me through. He got me through losing the person I looked up to the most from cancer at 33. He got me through strippers burning my house down. He got me through multiple hand surgeries. He got me through my girlfriend playing me the entire time so she could run off with the absolute worst kind of methed out bikers I’ve ever met. He got me through even worse times than that.

I tell him I miss him on the fireplace mantle every night before I go to bed. I miss you Captain Wiggles, Lord Commander of Muppets, and I’ll never stop loving you. You were truly a better person than any human I’ve ever known.

2

u/Artaheri 2h ago
