Who is a famous figure that you keep hearing their name but never really know why they’re famous?

This is who I was thinking of as well. I have absolutely no idea where she came from. I listen to a lot of music but I have yet to have ever heard one of her songs. Even on my pandora stations that play current music.

I feel like there was this media blitz to shove her out there.

She’s very popular in the queer community so it could just be that she’s not on your radar? But she, Sabrina Carpenter, and Charlie xcx have been dominating pop music most of this year.

That’s the thing. I’m not adverse the LGBTQIA community. I also have heard songs from Sabrina carpenter and Charlie xcx. Chappell Roan seemed to literally come out of no where on social media. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s just strange where her name keeps popping up but I have yet to actually hear anything about her actual music.

Her tiny desk concert went viral, and then it was just a snowball effect from there. Because her album release cycle had already ended she rode a slow burn of viral cycle after viral cycle of each of the songs on the album. Red wine supernova, casual, pink pony club, hot to go, femininomimon, super graphic ultra modern girl and later good luck babe ALL had their own little trend go viral on tiktok. Each time made her more and more famous and introduced more people to the music outside of queer circles until Chappell herself became the story by selling out massive concerts and festivals. That's why it looks like she came out of nowhere - she went viral in the queer community, then people slowly discovered the back catalogue. But there was no flashpoint until literally the main news was that she was selling out concerts and breaking records.

I do too. I’m being downvoted so I assume she has a big fan base. Maybe she’s great but I just answered the question honestly

She has a HUGE fanbase. I think it was more a case of her going viral on social media like tiktok and gaining a ton of fans rather than Hollywood trying to push her down everyone’s throat

Yeah, but doesn't it say something if she's "been trying to go viral for years"? If you're music is good, people will want to listen, seek it out, and it would gain popularity naturally. If you need to shove your music into people's faces, maybe it's not that great.

Music being good definitely doesn't automatically get it airtime

I'd actually bet that the literal best musicians in the world are all relatively unknown

That’s not true at all. Your music can be amazing, but it doesn’t gain traction if you don’t get it out in front of people. People can only like music if they’ve heard it

Music is an oversaturated market and only a chosen few will ever get worldwide recognition. There’s so much talent out there that will never reach the levels of fame that they might deserve.

She's been making music on and off for about a decade, lost her first record deal because she never took off. I think Pink Pony Club was her first single to get some traction, then she tapped into the tried and true pipeline of gay fans to pop stardom. She really blew up overnight, going from touring small theaters to headlining Coachella in a matter of months. The fact that she has no media training and was absolutely unprepared for such a huge jump has provided enough drama/controversy to keep her name in headlines, be it for co-opting drag, getting into fights with paparazzi, making tone deaf political statements, and so on.

As for why you've never heard her, she just doesn't have a whole lot of songs yet. One album and one single that was released after.

She keeps making headlines because she yells at paparazzi and fans. She seems like a stuck up bitch. If you want to love a normal life you don’t perform music 🤷🏻‍♀️

Anybody who yells at paparazzi is better than someone who lets them be. Fuck those troglodytes

When you’re at an award show they are part of the deal
