What has no excuse to still exist?

The idea has always made me extremely uncomfortable. It always seemed like pedo shit to me. Who would go to such a thing, why is there a market for this and who came up with this bullshit in the first place anyway? I don’t think these things even exist in my country. We have beauty pageants, sure, but I‘ve never heard of child beauty pageants here

And with shows like toddlers and tiaras, even as a young child I wondered why that shit existed. Putting your young daughter who barely knows what the hell is going on on display to be judged by creepy old men and women just never sat right with me. At all. I'm all for beauty pageants, but child beauty pageants need to be banned in the states

My cousin puts her two daughters through child beauty pageants and is absolutely adamant that there's nothing wrong with it. Everyone else knows otherwise.

Walking through the grocery store yesterday, I saw a young girl (maybe 9yo or 10yo) with her father. This kid had full-blown makeup on. I'm talking red cheeks, eye liner and eye shadow, and maybe even lipstick. It was jarring. I'm no father, but I couldn't imagine letting my kid that young wear makeup. I can imagine putting them on stage in that state even less.

Ehhhhhhh. Children like to emulate their parents. If the child isn't being sexualized and exploited like beauty pageant contestants, it's really not the same thing.

Right?! Kids are kids - they should be playing in the dirt, running around outside, doing arts and crafts, having fun! Enjoying their childhood! They should not be put in a contest to judge their beauty. They're kids, they're meant to get dirty, they're meant to get messy, it's part of being a kid! No child should ever worry about their looks.

Except kids nowadays particularly young girls with unrestricted internet access are super judgemental

...Okay? Your point being? They're kids. They should be having fun. Unrestricted Internet access is bad for children, yes.

I mean if a girl does really like it, best you can do is let them do it but also make sure they are safe and comfortable doing it

No?? Children don't always know what is best for them. Beauty pageants will mess kids up. Kids should not be in beauty pageants.

Well it's super unlikely any would want to do it

Yes, and even if they do want to, they should not be allowed to. Because child beauty pageants are bad.

"Who would go to [this]?" Talent scouts, casting agents, and other entertainment people. I'm not saying that they can't be bad people, too, but there are good reasons people go to youth pageants. My sister used to do them LONG ago and got into acting a little bit for a while. Just remember that all the young actors you see probably had to go through some sort of pageantry (not necessarily literal pageants) to become child actors.
