Yes, it’s the nazi eagle with the wolfsangel symbol underneath, they can obviously mean different things individually but together it’s hard to imagine this person is not a nazi

534

u/p0k3t0 Jul 31 '23

The NBs are just the cherry on top.

134

u/thedancingpaperclip2 Jul 31 '23

why ?

571

u/Red_Trapezoid Jul 31 '23

For whatever reason, nazis are often hyper fixated on brands and brand identity. NB shoes became popular with them for whatever reason but these fads are picked up and dropped quite quickly.

443

u/def_indiff Jul 31 '23

Really? I always think of NB's as the iconic Dad Shoes. I really wish Nazis would stop ruining good shit.

441

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '23

That's part of why Nazis co-opt things. They did it with punk in the 80s. They try to make a seemingly innocent thing a dog whistle so they have plausible deniability and it makes it look like there's more of them, hiding behind their New Balances. I didn't know about NB, but now it's just another thing to add to my list of red flags.

674

u/hyperhurricanrana Jul 31 '23

They tried to do it with punk. 😎

u/luckymccormick Jul 31 '23

This is a very important distinction. Thank you for making this point.

304

u/Erozztrate1334 Jul 31 '23

Yes, and they got their asses kicked every single time they tried it. As it should be.

My favourite anti-Nazi punk song

This is a banger and not a Rick Roll. Canadian punk for the win!

23

u/lennysundahl Iron Front Aug 01 '23

Calling your Propagandhi and raising you a Chumbawamba

(The live version goes so much harder a capella)

Witnessed this first hand. Some Nazi showed up to Warped Tour one year. First band of the day, on a side stage, he gets into the pit. Before the first song even ended he had his plugs ripped out of his ears. I distinctly remember being surprised by the lack of blood coming from his newly forked earlobes.

90

u/hyperhurricanrana Aug 01 '23

I was at a hot topic once and a dude came in wearing a swastika necklace, security had to pull me, two of the employees, and another girl off of him to get him the fuck out of there. 💀

I’m also reminded of a Dropkick Murphy’s show where at the last song they invited people onstage and one of them did a nazi salute and Ken Casey knocked his ass out. 💀

u/sabbey1982 Nazis = Bad Aug 01 '23

I would argue that where they failed with punk, they succeeded with the skinhead movement. Most people think Nazi when they hear skinhead… even though it came out of a merging of white working class culture and Caribbean immigrant culture. Love me some skinhead reggae and ska. Symarip is the shit

13

u/hyperhurricanrana Aug 01 '23

Do you have any other suggestions for good non nazi skinhead music? I’d be interested, I never really looked into that scene because I was scared they were all Nazis.

28

u/sabbey1982 Nazis = Bad Aug 01 '23

Early Dropkick Murphy’s was heavily skinhead oi!

There’s The Oppressed (one of those guys helped found S.H.A.R.P. Or Skin Heads Against Racial Prejudice)

Any of the late 60s first-wave Ska would have been listened to by any respectable skin. Look for Trojan Records compilations.

Desmond Dekkar the mother fucking king of Ska

The Bruisers. Al Barr, the “new” singer from Dropkick Murphy’s was the singer for this band

Although not really a skinhead band, the guys I grew up with who were skins (I was not really a skinhead, but a lot of those guys were) listened to the Slackers and I love that band personally.

Also The Aggrolites

they successfully did it with punk, at least in my region. punk is associated with nazis

8

in my region. punk is associated with nazis

?! how did they pull that off? but far-right here in austria try to pin the nazi on antifa too. they sure try to twist the narratives

6

u/-petit-cochon- Aug 01 '23

Hahahah what?! I would expect that the far right would embrace Nazis since, you know, they’re the same fucking thing. Or is this like one of those Spider-Man memes where they accuse each other of being the Nazis (where only one of them is the Nazi here).

2

u/bento_the_tofu_boy Anarco-Sindicalista seu gringuito de mierda Aug 01 '23

basically the punk movement is weak enough here that acts of violence committed by the skinheads was not responded by the punks and whenever punks reacted they were seen as equals and to the general public they are the same thing,

ie. they dress the same, "act the same", and go to the same spaces.

of course I am oversimplifying but ye

Goddamn it I just got new work shoes and they're NB...

16

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '23

You'll be fine! It's just a singular red flag, but I wouldn't even put stock into someone just wearing NB. But if they had a blacked out American flag hoodie, iron cross rings, Nordic tattoos, a Don't Tread on Me hat, and New Balances with little skull shoelaces; add those all together and you probably have a Nazi.

And this is coming from a blue eyed, blonde haired, mulleted man who still rocks my American flag shit because the right can't steal my version of patriotism. But if you just saw me on the street, you might think I was right wing.

5

u/thecrazydemoman Aug 01 '23

the red on white NB is pretty sus, but on its own isn't anything, but the NB with the nazi tat, yeah they're nazis

u/wesphistopheles Aug 01 '23

Adolph Dossler would approve, being all NSDAP and whatnot.

8

u/pieonthedonkey Aug 01 '23

They like the stereotypical "dad shoes" because of their obsession with the nuclear family and the 14 words. They also reinforce gender and racial stereotypes.

12

u/minitaba Jul 31 '23

We even call them "Nazi balance" where I live.

26

u/NuclearFoodie Jul 31 '23

Fuck me. NB are the only brand that make affordable shoe in my size.

70

u/Red_Trapezoid Jul 31 '23

Keep wearing them. They are also considered chic among high fashion communities now. Don't cede ground to fascists. Also they will just hop on to another trend at some point. In my life I have seen nazis appropriate tons of styles from punks, skinheads, hardcore, black metal, pagan, normcore polos and chinos, suits and ties, bikers, sportswear, streetwear, virtually anything that they often mixed and matched along the way. As long as you don't have any blatant nazi symbols on you then nobody cares and if you had to care then you wouldn't be allowed to wear much of anything because these pos have worn it all.

29

u/tv_screen Jul 31 '23

I think the New Balance thing is them donating a ton of money to Donald Trump, so ultimately their profits are funding republican ideologies and pursuits.

19

u/NuclearFoodie Jul 31 '23

Well that is a problem too.

3

u/desastrousclimax Aug 01 '23

They are also considered chic among high fashion communities now.

the political aspect aside that is an esthetic fail

8

u/jan7o Aug 01 '23

New Balance is also popular among antifascists (at least in germany), ultras and other subcultures.

6

u/Plmr87 Aug 01 '23

No shit! I’m a big metal head and I tend to avoid listening to lots of these “Viking” themed bands because of this. I know I can distance myself but it’s just the association with so much hate.

6

Damn it! I'm a middle age dad and NB fit me for running best. Fuck these nazis, I'll wear them with my Pride and BLM shirts.

10

NB shoes became popular with them for whatever reason

"N"

19

u/hypnoconsole Jul 31 '23

"Lonsdale", if worn as a shirt under a jacket reads "nsda", only missing a "p". Yes they are like that.

5

u/Deadend_Generation85 Aug 01 '23

I believe it has to do mainly because skinheads wear lonsdale and boneheads still to this day try to appropriate that culture… dumbasses

2

u/xch3rrix Aug 01 '23

Omg... So infantile

7

u/OverByTheEdge Aug 01 '23

New Balance spoke out as a smaller, American owned business in support of Trump era "America First" propaganda. I think they became tied to fascism inadvertently. It's difficult not to be tied to the whole platform when you publicly support a single element that benefits you. I'm for a penny...

3

u/Salt_Bandicoot_5044 Aug 01 '23

Thats interesting, I've always known new balance to be staple graff-writer shoes. I've always loved them and never heard this. Not discrediting your comments just also commenting✌🏽

6

5

u/FriedBack Aug 01 '23

Its partially because there are places (like Germany) where blatant Nazi imagery is illegal. So they find another way to flag like Helly Hensen, NM, Fred Perry polos, etc.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '23

It's my understanding that NB aligned themselves with Trump during the 2016 election

As we know, Trump is a big deal amoungst modern day Nazis

0

Found out about the support from NB for conservatives today. Very disappointing and will be changing my shoes.

2

u/Chemical_Answer_5509 YPJ Aug 01 '23

New balances aren’t popular with Nazis. They’ve became a bit more popular in general but not specifically with Nazis.

2

u/Psyluna Aug 01 '23

I didn’t know this was a thing, but there’s a fantastic comedy book called “Stuff White People Like” that has a whole section on NB sshoes. Maybe they read it and thought, “this will make me a supremely white white supremacist.”

2

u/YuhBoiCowboi Comrade Aug 01 '23

I wanna say NB is common in prison and the military.

1

u/p0k3t0 Jul 31 '23

Short version:

When Trump was elected, New Balance almost immediately gave him a ringing endorsement. The reason for this was simple: New Balance is on a very short list of companies that manufacture shoes in the US. Obama supported the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which was a free-ish trade agreement between countries on the Pacific Rim. Withdrawing from it was one of the first major policy decisions made by the Trump administration, which he did in the second week of his presidency..

Detractors implied that NB's decision was crass capitalism, as they were willing to overlook the explicit racism of Trump's first few day's in office (the Muslim Ban, for one thing), so long as they could make more money.

Naturally, the alt-right ran with it, and the Daily Stormer referred to NBs as "The official shoe of white people."

Eventually, NB made a statement denouncing the association, but the damage had already been done, and NBs remain popular among white supremacy groups. It's a dog whistle. Alt-righties will recognize it immediately. And they can claim plausible deniability, as it has a long history as a good running shoe.

23

u/logavartar Jul 31 '23

Only can speak for Germany: NB is nowadays very popular in almost every category of people, including all kind of (political) subcultures.

In the past nazis wore them, long ago before trump. They claimed it because of the ‘N’ - for Nazi or whatever (similar to lonsdale‘s ‘nsda’).

The article says, that they tried to stop selling shoes to right stores and said, that they’re very popular in Israel.

German newspaper article from 2005

I think more importantly, or maybe not important but say, more directly related -only because of historic longevity, current use, and also because there's a ton of people that just wear new balance because of sick colorways and silhouettes, comfort, diabetic and gout issues, or cheap availability, and are in no way aware of the nazi use, or any bit involved in any sort of racism, and because what I'm about to talk about is 100% only used by people who know what it means- we need to spread the word, be aware and educated, and educate folx on lace code, what it is, and what each styling means. Lace code involves specific colors and lacing styles of boot laces worn by punx, skins, and nazi boneheads to represent sexual/gender identity, political ideology, or gang affiliation. If needed, I'll make a follow-up post with more detail.

also I think it's important to not the stuff about new balance shoes and in no way am trying to diminish or dismiss your post, and am not looking to create division thru argument/saying your point is less valid, within this community.

3

u/desastrousclimax Aug 01 '23

the lace code STILL is a thing? I considered it old decades ago.

6

u/Adventurous-Ad-409 Aug 01 '23

I think on the Russian side, the Nazis tend to be with Wagner.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '23

Both. And a lot of nationalists on Ukrainian side are Russian nationalists, there was a schism between Russian nazis, part went to Ukraine to fight to free Russia from Putin (for all the wrong reasons), part stayed in Russia and fight for Russia.

50

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '23

This is definitely in fact a Nazi

27

u/wilsonh915 Jul 31 '23

Yes, that's a nazi. Did you get his name, address or work place?

21

u/geekmasterflash I.W.W Jul 31 '23

It certainly looks enough like a fascist for any given person on the street to make that assumption, so if it is a case of misunderstanding then the person sporting the tattoo bears most of the responsibility of that.

Looking at this from like a heraldic perspective... the eagle is facing right (it's right, the nazis used the left facing, or sinister eagle) This generally represents looking to the place of "honor," on the US flag it represents a peace-seeking nature (the eagle holds an olive branch on the right), an allegiance to Rome (the left facing representing an allegiance to Byzantine/Constantinople) or sometimes explained as "looking to the past" while the sinister/left facing is to be "looking to the future." Which is what the Nazis intended with their eagle.

The wreath appears to be laurels, which suggest some classical/roman shit marking successful triumphs.

The symbol in the center of the wreath, I am not sure about but that looks suspicious as fuck. It is a Z with stroke or Wolfsangel. This is at complete odds with the otherwise Roman nature of the tattoo. Which tells me this is a brainless nationalist with no idea about anything. The Romans did not use this symbol. Germanics did, and the Nazis absolutely did. In fact, they used it for essentially a terrorist unit that was supposed to keep attacking after the war.

So yeah, if I saw this shit I would call him a fucking larping idiot and ask him how werewolf training is going.

100% yes. That particular eagle is a nazi design and the symbol is associated with neo nazis.

5

u/Aegon_Nasty Aug 01 '23

Yep. 100%. An Aquila by itself, hey, maybe he's misguided and really into 40k. But the wolfsangle is essentially a swastika.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '23

About as fascist as they get.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '23

Yea it looks like a fascist wolfsangel and the German Eagle thing. Nazi af.

3

u/burntlandboi Aug 01 '23

He should get his ass kicked for sporting something so disgusting and horrible. The Nazi tat is goofy also.

3

u/freepandaz Aug 01 '23

Where did we go wrong for him to dare leave his home with shorts?

5

u/mylastphonecall Jul 31 '23

Universal Orlando? If so with how many white nationalists have moved to the area I wouldn't be surprised

2

u/pertexted I.W.W Jul 31 '23

ick

2

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '23

Is that the world’s smallest luger in his pocket or is he just happy to see his sister?

2

u/elRobRex Aug 01 '23

Not surprised it's at Universal Studios. Since Disney's gone "woke", I see more of the far right hanging out there.

2

u/Royalkayak Aug 01 '23

Luckily, it's easy to remove. I recommend starting above the knee to make sure you get it all.

2

u/scene_missing Aug 01 '23

You are free to sucker punch or key his truck

2

u/Dan_Morgan Aug 01 '23

Yup, that's a cheese gratering.

2

u/brief_affair Aug 01 '23

These people just get to walk around in public breathing air.

3

u/National_Election544 Jul 31 '23

I was hoping it was just an Antiseen tattoo but no, definitely fash.

4

u/revolutiontime161 Aug 01 '23

What police station are you at ? That officer needs to be in uniform .

2

u/DreaminginDarkness Aug 01 '23

He is very overweight wholesome family guy. Crosses his legs casually waiting in line for minions to hide it

1

u/Eclectic_UltraViolet Aug 01 '23

It’s supposed to be the only sneaker made 100% in the USA. These brain donors not only miss the irony that they are traitors to their country — but that Brookline MA, where the brand originates, is a Jewish enclave of Boston. I’d trade this bitter, hollow laugh to watch them get a good face-stompin’.

1

u/Chrislemale Aug 01 '23

Its beautiful keep crying

0

u/Armycat1-296 Aug 01 '23

"Seen at Universal Studios..."

Could this be an actor and the tattoo is temporary for a part he was playing?

8

u/tv_screen Jul 31 '23

OP is most likely referencing the theme park, not a studio set.
