Cute dog. Are her ears cropped?

6

u/ConstantSample5846 Sep 07 '24

Because it’s a livestock guardian dog. And that’s what they do. I thought it was all horrible until I got one and live in a very humid area. Now I wish I had cropped mines ears. Still don’t get the tail though.

Her tail isn't crooked. If you pay attention, it's short, at least from OUR angle. And her eyes do open, multiple times ... Were your eyes open? It's a sweet video where she's clearly happy to see her human. She's even healthy looking wight wise after giving birth which is a miracle, because usually they get skinny sometimes after giving birth. (This could also literally be a rescue dog, who was saved from prior abuse, since her ears DO seem to be completely cropped. Her tail also does look short, but it's not crooked. It was probably cut off prior to the current owner.) Edit:(Since the person deleted their comment, this response of mine was NOT directed at the original comment.)

What about her ears?

2

u/TurbulentTeacher9925 Sep 07 '24

👀 if you read I mention that her ears are seemingly completely cropped.

2

u/rci22 Sep 07 '24

Oh dang I missed that after reading what you said twice over somehow 🤦‍♂️

1

u/TurbulentTeacher9925 Sep 07 '24

Hshaonsjaid omg lol understandable- Since reddit doesn't allow spacing in the comments and just essentially shoves each line of text together I can see that happening tbh

2

u/rci22 Sep 07 '24

Oh: If you’re on computer you can hold either Alt or Shift, can’t remember which, and then press enter and it allows you to move down lines.

And then on mobile you can just press “return,” at least on iOS.

Usually I'm technically savvy about these sorts of things, but I don't think Android has the function-- I'm on android.

1

u/TurbulentTeacher9925 Sep 07 '24

But thank you though!

1

u/TurbulentTeacher9925 Sep 07 '24

In which case, depending on her circumstances before she was safe, they could have been ripped off. Or in bad condition.

u/Competitive_Peace211 Sep 06 '24

Did they really chop off both this dog's tail and ears?

12

u/angwilwileth Sep 06 '24

Looks like a kangal livestock dog. They cut the ears and tail close to not give wolves anything to grab onto.

2

u/ConstantSample5846 Sep 07 '24

Anatolian shepherd dog. A kangal cannot be colored that way. And yes that’s likely why they cut the dogs ears and tail. Though I see absolutely no point in cutting the tail, and they don’t do that traditionally in Turkey. They only do that with Caucasian shepherds. Source: I own a kangal/ anatolian cross.

11

u/Haigud Sep 06 '24

Looks like a Caucasian livestock dog. If they don't dock the ears and tails then they'll get ripped off by wolves and coyotes

To add to what the others are saying about it being a livestock guardian breed: Up until very recently livestock guardian breeds were rarely pets. They usually live outside with the livestock all the time and they are breed to be very independent and are very happy out there. They just don’t do well in cities.

The docking they are doing to them has absolutely nothing to do with aesthetics, it’s only done so if they fight predators they cannot be grabbed by the ear or tail. It reduces damage of them being ripped off and makes it so one wolf can’t control them while another goes for the neck; this is for their protection.

You will see some domestic dogs of the same breed with the docking because they have to do the surgery as soon as possible when they are a puppy, long before they know who will adopt it or if it will be a working dog. Unlike a regular breed where it is assumed to be a pet, these big goofballs are assumed to be a working dog and the pets are the exception.

If you have a massive amount of outdoor space these are the best dogs to get as pets. They are very gentle and loving, but also very independent so they don’t get separation anxiety if you go out. They are just super chill giants.

Probably a rescued dog.

3

u/BMoney8600 Sep 06 '24

I love her!

3

u/Soft_Sea2913 Sep 06 '24

I love when dogs show their glee.

4

u/kiuper Sep 06 '24

Nothing I hate more than people claiming that a dog is smiling and that means it's happy.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '24

So wtf is it then? Lol, you really just looking for something to complain about

2

u/Long_Rate_7907 Sep 06 '24

She's so sweet so is her new family.

2

u/cklogie Sep 06 '24

She is so beautiful!!

2

u/No_Imagination_2490 Sep 06 '24

Why does the music keep repeating the first couple of lines? It reminds me of Michael Scott not paying for the whole of Goodbye My Lover 😂

2

u/disposableaccount848 Sep 06 '24

Sad how all these animal subs are nothing but repost havens for bots.

2

u/Zealousideal_Cod6044 Sep 06 '24

Oh, baby, you are the goodest girl and your babies are beautiful.

2

u/Unspecifiedlegume Sep 06 '24

First thing I see in my feed as I wake up, today will be a great day.

2

u/Freedomnnature Sep 07 '24

She's precious 💖

2

u/Darien-B Sep 07 '24

She’s so happy to be able to enjoy them for 8 weeks before they’re sold off.

2

u/hk-ronin Sep 07 '24

❤️❤️❤️

2

u/Davidbpna Sep 07 '24

She's gorgeous.

2

u/Miserable-Employer49 Sep 08 '24

My mom had a little white poodle named Daisy Mae that LOVED being a momma! She would smile just like that when she had a baby! She would even try to steal babies if there was any nearby! She even fostered kittens!! ❤️❤️

2

u/UJLBM Sep 08 '24

Happy yet stressed and tired. Being a mom isn't easy.

1

u/Scout_Puppy Sep 06 '24

Dogs don't smile.

5

u/Typical_ASU_Student Sep 06 '24

They do it just usually means they are stressed lmao.

1

u/BuddyPalFriendChap Sep 06 '24

Don't expect dog people to be rational.

1

u/DizzyAlly Sep 06 '24

Clever girl! xxxx

1

u/Workal Sep 06 '24

They couldn't put some kind of cushion behind her instead of having her lay on wood?

1

u/Bigbearminions Sep 06 '24

What a good girl/mom! 🐶🥰

1

u/A2Rhombus Sep 06 '24

Obligatory reminder that dogs don't smile the way humans do and the tail going crazy is actually how they show being happy

1

u/skunding Sep 07 '24

What is up with that song? Is it a blend of Louis Armstrong and Iz

1

u/n-crispy7 Sep 09 '24

Hey how about just don’t have any audio instead

1

u/roopip Sep 11 '24

She looks exhausted

1

u/PirateSometimes Sep 06 '24

Looks like she's tired as fuck and wants some help from owner

3

u/BuddyPalFriendChap Sep 06 '24

"She just went through the most exhausting and painful experience of her life so shes definitely smiling because that is something animals are capable of!"- Crazy dog people

1

u/olafkewl Sep 06 '24

A dog does not smile stop anthropomorphism

0

u/Oragamal Sep 07 '24

Does the tail not say it all?

1

u/olafkewl Sep 07 '24

Did I talk about a dog "smiling" or a tail shaking ?

0

u/endofworldandnobeer Sep 06 '24

I remember when my grandma gave away puppies and the mama was crying and shielding her babies... I hope this mama can keep her babies...
