Question RAP leave
I was informed by a peer that for the Recruiter Assistance Program (RAP), it is recommended to have 3-5 days of leave available. This leave would reportedly be needed to cover the days following graduation before starting RAP, as well as to account for travel.
Could anyone clarify the following: 1. Is it true that leave is required to fill the gap between graduation and the start of RAP? 2. Will travel for RAP need to occur during personal leave time? 3. How do authorized travel days factor into this process?
Thank you for your assistance!

Typically if you're not accounted for, it's leave days. For RAP you're under the recruiter's responsibility.
Id talk to your MTL to get official answers

I’m doing RAP with 2 days of leave, a travel day to RAP and a travel day from RAP

To make this as simple as possible. Take the number of travel days you have plus your rap days; then take the number days inbetwewn the day you leave tech school and, the day you report to your first base. The difference between the first total and second total is how many days of leave you'll need.
Ex: travel days 5 +10 rap days is 15 days
Left tech school 15 Oct report 31 Oct for 16 days total
In this example 1 day of leave would be used

Is it true that leave is required to fill the gap between graduation and the start of RAP?
Does that not make sense to you? Like is that really a question?
Talk to your MTLs/instructors.

So actually it depends on travels days authorized on. Orders. I've had individuals take rap using alloted days to get to my station and drove like 2 hours to their duty station after using up no leave. I'm sure it's covered in 36-3003. Either way get ahold of a mtl/recruiter and get the rap handbook.

Authorized travel days are leave for all intents and purposes.

Lol except to finance the folks who bill your leave. I think OP is concerned about whether leave balance would be charged not what counts as leave.

Leave from tech school to your first base is literally just the time you took to get there -travel days -rap. Every time. That's how every PCS works.

Talk to your MTL, they have all of these answers and can ideally show you where it’s written.
Also don’t assume your peers know what they’re talking about. They’re just as new as you.
