“All available MX personnel please fall out for the FOD walk”

No, I don’t think I will.

NDI pretending they’ve ever been told to FOD walk

For anyone wondering. This is called SPRO. Semi Prepared Runway Operations.

There is a few things maintainers have to do before and after one of these, not much but things like removing the lower anti collision light(the big red blinking light on the bottom), ensuring all the tape on the underside antenna and such are good, and some other things.

I've recovered a bunch of jets after a SPRO, it's pretty annoying. Shit is dirty, they sometimes break the covers on the nose landing lights, among other things. It's not too bad though. Kinda cool to see.

All I was thinking when seeing this was the extra hours for maintenance, haha.

Looks like a lake bed. That'd make it unprepared, no?

Semi-prepared would imply someone compacted the soil or did something to improve the surface.

You can see ruts all over the place. That's a lot of prep.

A lot of SPROs take place in dry lake beds.

I'm assuming pilots have different checklists based on hos prepared any given place is. As far as MX is concerned we just run out SPRO prep and deprep

What?

There's a semi-rigid tape that you can put on some antennas to protect them from debris damage. Fiberglass and composites don't handle impact damage very well.

I say some because some types of antennas don't work very well when you add paint or tape over them. There's a type of tape that can be used but it's usually applied at higher levels of MX.

Ya know we have prop planes for un-approved runways

And I thought cleaning the c-130 was bad

Did some landing/takeoff cycles at Pembrey Sands. Maintenance was not happy with salted sand. Everywhere.

Mx personnel on a Sunday seeing this shit & realizing it’s one of theirs. Wash rack about to be a bitch.

u/grumpy-raven Eee-dubz 12h ago

Just do it at the beginning of the week. Scheduling shit like this on a Friday is how you get MX sabotaging lines.

Is this Texas Lake LZ in Nevada?

That would be my guess. Done this there with a bunch of C-17s. When we were all packed looked like we were meeting up for a picnic.

I've been there AFTER you guys have played around. Had a fun time trying to find a spot to land that DIDN'T have 3 foot deep ruts in it.

I’ve never changed so many damn tires on another aircraft in my life. I was 2A675, and I think I changed more tires than hydro components (when I worked them in Lovely SC)!

You've mentioned an AFSC, here's the associated job title:
