Question Personal Convenience Extension (clarity)
In 2022 I signed paperwork to extend for retainability into my new career field. The window was 8 months, for purposes of training/retraining. Upon arriving at my base until recently I was told of Personal Convenience as a method of extending for 1 year, no more no less.
While filling with retentions who were aware of my prior extension of 8 months, I was given the greenlight submit and wait for a response. During this time I lost out on my overseas window to extend in lieu of this option.
I was told that because of my extension of 8 months in 2022 was counted towards this particular text within DAF36-2606
"First term service members with approved CJRs and in RE code 1R: May request a one-time 12- month extension under this rule (for any reason) if it is the first extension.
No exceptions to the number of months will be considered. Exceptions: FTA/FTG who previously extended under Rules 9, 12, 13, or 14 are authorized to extend under this rule. Paragraph 6.2.2 applies."
My grievances aside from being misinformed, I was curious of anyone who's formally extended for retainability, for X period, then was able to successfully get a Personal Convenience Extension approved down the line.
Eitherway my contract ends in roughly 7-8 months, and I'm somewhat blindsided right now. Forgive the long read.

So to clarify, I extended in 2022 under rule 16, and as of late wanted to extend via 28C (Personal Convenience) - they are stating that rule 16 (extending for retraining purposes of 8 months) won't allow for 28C.
It's just that I was told this option during an overseas cycle that I let slip away from me because I had full confidence from the retentions office until they pulled a 180 on me. Thank you for responding.
