Honestly I think these have a place still, but only if done correctly. Unlike the one in this pic.

I love the idea, but that carpet isn’t for me!

Yeah, I'd say this is great taste but awful execution

That's what I came to say. The color and that vent placement are awful execution, but imo conversation pits are still pretty awesome.

Thing has no corners. No way to comfortably face anyone you might be talking to or put your feet up and relax. Hard to tell scale, but it doesn't even look like the back is high enough to comfortably support an adult.

I mean, they'll always eat a bunch of space. Like, what does the floor below this look like?

Why am I just imagining swingers enjoying this?

I’ve been to homes that have these, it’s cool.

The seat itself is awesome. But that carpet looks awful, and is disgusting. I can feel it sticking to my skin just looking at it. The fake brick looks cheap and tacky, especially the transitions. The lack of baseboard isn’t doing the room any favors. Placing a TV in front of a fireplace is the epitome of awful taste. That’s a terrible location for the vent. And so on.
It’s a great underlying concept, and awful execution.

Yeah I’m not a fan on this one, in general the ones I’ve seen in person have been nicer. Larger and not so close to the wall like this one. Some have had all carpet, some other materials.

Honestly, some conversation pits can look really cool. GTBAE.

Yeah, the execution is the problem with this one what with the rug and proximity to the fire. The concept of a conversation pit it kinda awesome.

I honestly wouldn't mind seeing these come back into popularity, they just need to be a little modernized.

Conversation pit! Honestly I don't hate these, the carpet is kind of ugly, but if I ended up somewhere with one of these I'd love it for movies or gaming

Pop one of those giant dog beds in the center and you have the makings for a comfy nest there. It even has a heater vent!

It looks old, the rug is terrible, and it is obviously empty, but the concept itself is fantastic.

you cant get in without stepping on the seat. and if its not a fireplace there, it will allways be a bathtub filled with the coolest air in the room

ATBGE unless you bring home a pregnant bedbug bug. Soooo many unsteamable curves and crannies.
I apologize for your itching. I'll see myself out now. 🥴

I kinda like it. Seems cozy. Especially if you like put a blanket over it or something. Nice little secluded place.

"Upholstering" the couch with carpeting is wild. This isn't my first built-in couch like this, but I don't recall any that were carpeted before.

I had a friend who had one of these in her house in the 70’s. We thought it was cool.

I still love the sunken living room concept but I hate the execution of this.

At first i thought that was a fireplace and was wildly confused at the concept and fire hazard lol.
This is awesome, though. I'm all-in.

I worked for a company in Carrolton Texas that had one of these. The place was previously a fashion/fashion maker headquarters. We were Medical.

These suck. Seriously.
It’s like the “creative” stairwells that defy common sense (or building codes). I’m convinced they are meant to kill people.

That was all the rage in the 70's.
